I have stored my valuables at the Hackensack storage facility near my home for over 10 years! Just downsized to smaller unit. The facility is run efficiently and a very safe place. The staff is kind, considerate and professional always willing to assist customers.

Review for Extra Space Storage
Predatory Billing, Deceptive Pricing, and Coercive Practices — AVOID
We leased a storage unit from Extra Space Storage in March under a promotion. From the beginning, this company has engaged in bait-and-switch tactics and predatory billing practices.
When I first signed up, the rate was $66/month — within a few months, that increased to over $130, then $160, and now it's at $220! That’s more than triple the original rate. No justification, no added amenities, just skyrocketing prices. How is this even legal?
In addition, I fell behind on my June payment and attempted to pay in full on July 15 — but the office had already closed early at 3 PM. I returned the next day, July 16, and the office was completely closed again. When I was finally able to speak with someone, I was told I could only pay if I signed an agreement labeling the payment as “partial” for July, not June. I was threatened with auction fees and loss of access if I didn’t pay the full new month by the 5th day — even though I was only late on the previous month and had no intention of staying longer.
They refused to accept the actual past-due amount without that coercive agreement, forcing me into paying for time I didn’t want — and using access denial as leverage. They even claimed this was New Jersey law, but I’ve reviewed the Self-Service Storage Act, and nothing requires customers to prepay future rent or lose access.
This is a clear pattern of deception, abuse of lien laws, and aggressive upcharging. The price hikes and “auction threats” feel like a scam wrapped in corporate policy.
If you’re considering Extra Space Storage — don’t. They will bait you with a low rate, trap you with shady policies, and bleed you with fees and threats.
