They do not honor their checks. I had a customer write me a check for work that I completed and brought the check to them and they would not cash it because I didn't have an account

Friendly staff. Good hours. Basic banking is not usually a problem. The online banking sucks! I left my online account inactive for a while and it locked me out! Nobody in any of the branches, or online can fix it! And I wasn't very impressed with Glen, the manager for his accusing attitude when their was a balance discrepancy. Honestly I don't expect much from banks.

This is literally the only bank in the area that I trust, because it's the only one that doesn't play games with money that isn't theirs. Wonderful people. Beautiful facilities.

Horrible they lock you out of your account every 5 seconds when making a simple purchase. They also have no idea how to keep your password in the system so every time you try to use the app your password wont work. ABSOLUTELY INFURIATING.

I don’t see any reviews on here since COVID but the customer service at this bank was HORRIBLE! Everything has been opening up for awhile in NJ but some banks still have not opened there lobby’s. I hadn’t heard of any COVId spikes in banks but for some reason they are acting like they are different than any type of service business that lines up customers with social distances or have plexiglass between employee and customer. I had already been to Valley National (no appointment needed, open lobby) and was greeted with hellos all around. I was closing an IRA for my father, who is now in a nursing home with dementia, at VN. The funds are needed to pay for his care. Had to get my POA on file there etc. I then went to First Hope to deposit IRA check into an account he has there that has a substantial amount in it already. I would have been paying his bills from that account. ( Part of this is that I come down from Pa. to take care of these matters and to visit my father. It’s over an hour each way) Not another care parked in parking lot. Line at drive in. I knock on locked lobby door. Man comes to door asking me if I have appointment first off. No. I explain what I want. Deposit and POA. He tells me I can go to drive thru. I tell him I have a POA. He tells me I can go to drive thru. I tell him for amount of check and that I have a POA I would feel more comfortable doing it inside. It then occurs to him the POA isn’t on file. He goes and gets a teller. (She comes and I have to explain to here. Now mind you had I gone in we probably would have been done by now). She tells me I need an appointment but I can do it at drive threw now they will just stamp check and put in his account. I will have to come back for appointment if I want to do inside. I explained I really didn’t feel comfortable driving around with the check but I was coming from Pa. and wouldn’t be down again for a week. She suggested I seemed like I was having a difficult time with all this. ????? What??? I said no that wasn’t the case. Never mind I would check with Watchovia, he also has accounts there. Their response. Ok. Well call if you want to make an appointment. Nope. Next appointment? To close account I was going to make deposit into. Wonder if I’ll need an appointment to do that?

Another fun surprise: FH charges a fee to electronically transfer funds between your banks, and (another beauty!) you only find out AFTER THE FACT! Unforgivable nickel-and-diming.

I have been a customer of First Hope Bank for as long as it has had an office in Sparta New Jersey. this is by far the best banking experience I have ever had. Anytime I need anything I just give them a call they answer right away and always have correct information about my 2 accounts. Tellers and management greet me as I walk in and make my day!! I moved to Delaware six years ago and I still continue to use them as my primary bank. Online banking is a breeze to use and mobile deposits are a very useful tool for me. The whole experience is A+++

Least helpful employees I have ever encountered. Literally closing my account and taking my business elsewhere this month.

Out of state but have kept doing business with First Hope because of some financials and family still in NJ, but mainly because they're always wonderful and helpful over the phone. As of late I have been calling 3 or 4 times a month and am met with the same happy and helpful individuals more than willing to help me! Shout out to Dana who has helped me more times than I can remember, thank you!

I wanted to show my support to our local bank when it came time to buying my x-husband out of our marital home. I contacted First Hope Bank (my bank at the time) and was told that I had to go through an entire closing, even though I was staying in the home. All I needed was to get my x off the deed and pay him 1/2 of the profit at the time of the exchange. I thought that could be accomplished with a re-finance. I kept questioning their process but kept being told that yes...I had to go through an entire closing soup to nuts. Years later...and thousands of dollars in debt later, I found out that I should not have had to do all that. Maybe First Hope required it, but most banks don't. If only I knew...I would have contacted another bank. But I trusted them. The extra paperwork/approvals they had me go through, caused my attorney fees to go up too. To make matters worse, they sold my loan even before I made my first payment. I NEVER made a mortgage payment to First Hope Bank. Their antics forced me...a single parent & homeowner...to borrow money from family in order to stay afloat...I am still paying that money back in small affordable amounts to this day. Very questionable ethics and morals. My feel is that First Hope is more concerned about generating business that benefits them, vs. the long time, now former customers of Hackettstown. D. Lynn

Useless bank.... they took my application fee for a home equity loan and rejected my app....no reason! We had credit scores ranging from 700-800 at that time. Taught me a lesson in what sort of banks to apply to for loans. Thankfully we bank better now with larger banks...even the Piccatinny Union seems better... never again bank local!
