“So Sunday I ran out of gas. I never want that to happen to me again. It could have been worse, like in the Lincoln Tunnel, or during a blizzard or hurricane, but still you don't have that kind of perspective when you sputter suddenly to a halt in the middle of a busy street and people are beeping, making faces, giving you the finger, as you try to find where the hazard light is located because it isn't where it is in the car you usually use. So when you see cars quickly approaching, you vigorously pump the brake to set off the brake lights, so you don't get hit from behind. There are some wonderful people out there in this country, who when things go wrong, they pop, literally, out of nowhere to help you. The employees from TD Bank, the Hazlet Branch on Bethany Road, who came out of the bank and asked how they could help, redirected traffic, and began to push my car, and other men who got out of their cars and joined in to push me into the parking lot. Then assured me that just running out of gas was something that wasn't a big problem. Then there is the wonderful father of one of our chess students, because I was doing a lunch run before a chess tournament, who drove me to a gas station, we got a canister of gas, and tried to put gas into my car only to find that the car needed a certain attachment to open the fuel port. When AAA came the driver showed us where the special part should have been stored, but instead was an empty space. So much for Jeep certified pre-owned warranty assuring me of all factory working parts. But AAA to the rescue. Most importantly, to the gentleman and woman from TD Bank, thank you both who helped rescue this lady in distress, on a cold, Sunday, November afternoon. I will never forget your kindnesses.”
