A pretty hip cafe with open mic nights which is awesome. A decent amount of both indoor and outdoor seating, with many people often studying or working inside. I'm surprised that such a progressive shop could have such wasteful cups, straws, etc. Really hoping they can work on replacing their current cheap to-go cups with nice, eco-friendly alternatives. If they do, it would be an awesome place I'd continue to try out. All in all, their coffee is very strong so if you're looking for a bold taste, check Penstock out.

The confidence and care in their small business shows when you're a first timer in the coffee shop. They ask the right questions when it comes to the coffee or tea you're looking for. Very delicious and inviting coffee. It's seasonal coffee beans are always changing so make sure you're ready for a great new experience of coffee I miss the Ecuadorian papaya coffee they had. So good after it cooled down a bit

chocolate croissant yydsThe outer skin is very crispy and falls apart when touched. The inside is very soft and fluffy. Coupled with the mellowness of the chocolate, the aroma is overwhelming , and it’s not enough to eat. I hope to create a big croissant with so much chocolate.ps. There are mini sculptures of two legs? in the store

I live in Hillsborough and make the 30 minute drive at least once a week for a cup of coffee at Penstock. This coffee shop roasts their own beans, making it reallt easy to taste a difference in quality compared to other shops. Some of my personal favorites are the spro-j (orange juice with a shot of espresso and cardamom syrup), cappuccino and an iced latte with cardamom. No matter what you get, you can't go wrong. The interior is very warm and inviting. There's ample seating and you'll often see people working or studying here. It's a great place for remote workers or just stopping in for a quick cup. Tha baristas are always very friendly and they always create beautiful latte art if you order your drink for "here"!

The best coffee in the area. If you are a coffee lover, you never regret to have a coffee in this store. They do very serious business for coffee taste and are completely different from other cafes in New Brunswick and Highland Park.

Went here this morning and had the peppermint mocha with oatmilk, which was delicious. It also had nice latte art. However, what I did not like was the customer service, or lack thereof. There was a child sitting next to me that spilled his hot drink on himself and was crying and got the milk all over the floor, and the baristas did nothing. My friend and I helped the parents clean up the mess, and my friend asked the barista for a rag or something to clean up the floor, and the barista said they had no rags. The baristas offered zero help, they just willingly ignored the situation unfolding right in front of them. Another customer also sitting by was also trying to help and was also wondering... how do they not have a single rag or mop in a coffee shop?? I did not like this low level of customer service and I felt bad for the parents and the little kid that had to clean up everything with lots and lots of napkins.

I am what you call a coffee snob, and this place has some of the best coffee in the world! I’ve had geisha coffees that sell for over $1000/lb, Cup of Excellence winners and placers, and the coffee here is right up there with the best in the world!

I attended one of the latte art classes here so I figured that I would share my experience if anybody else was considering taking it also. The class is a bit pricey for what it is -$55 for a two hour class but in all honesty if you go in with reasonable expectations and know what you want to improve on ahead of time you can actually take away a lot from those 2 hours. Watching videos of latte art online definitely helps, but actually seeing the process in person and being able to ask specific questions really does help much more than you would think. Thank you for the excellent class - I will be taking the intermediate course next!Parking: Free parking lot next to the coffee shop, limited in space but I was able to get a spot during their normal hours.
