We have begun a family summer tradition since 2019. We spent our summers here many years ago and enjoy going back home to the fullest. The cottages are spotless and the service is 5 *.

This location in the Highlands and these cottages were just perfect for a few days at the beach. The purveyor is a wonderful gentleman that is incredibly helpful and helped us secure chairs and umbrellas to take to the beach for a nominal cost. It is worth noting that while rooms are a little small, they have everything you need, including a nice bathroom and a sink with a microwave and coffee maker as well as a small refrigerator. What stands out for these cottages is the amenities outside the rooms. There is a beautiful area where you can grill or enjoy sitting by a fire pit, as well as a common area that includes a large full kitchen, laundry services, and a place to sit down and relax outside of your cottage. We will definitely be back. Thank you John!!

I absolutely loved the cabins . It's quiet and has a lovely gathering space/ backyard with a fire pit and benches, table and chairs. The cabins have everything you need from plates, a little fridge, good TV ect.We were in the cabin for dogs and we loved it but I have to say that it wasn't completely finished even though my husband booked 3 months ahead but after it was only cosmetic appearance it doesn't bother us too much. The only thing I have to mention is the doggie door, which is an awesome idea because it leads to a little confined area for your dog. But the flip door has to be fixed. You can't slide the hard plastic over the flap to securely close it. And it's less the concern about the dog going out it's more about what could come in if you can't close it. ( Squirrel, cat) We had to stuff pillows in front of the flap , because we didn't want our little old seniors to be outside. Otherwise it's nearly perfect and we would love to come back. The owner and the lady who helped were absolutely nice and helpful and the cabins are in a great location

We loved cabin G. Set in a beautiful courtyard our cabin was perfect. Loved the walk in shower and comfy bed. Lots to see and do nearby with great food within a short walk. Highly recommended.

Great place! We throughly enjoyed everything about our stay at the Summer House cabin. Adorable tiny house living felt very homey! Walking distance to great eateries and the beach. Can’t say enough great things about our experience. Will definitely return!

We came twice here (one was the staring the pandemic, then 1.5 year after!) both very pleasant experience. This is not a 5-star commercial establishment (don’t expect), but it is a set of simple cottages, w modern bathroom, secluded atmosphere in a nice neighborhood in Highlands NJ, near Sandyhook beach. We met Tom, owner, who kept a promise of accommodating us for free after we had an accident of toilet flooding last year. This time everything worked perfectly, we enjoyed our own breakfast and dinner at a porch of our cottage G. Sarah, working there, was also super nice. We will come back for at least two nights in every summer.

Writing this lengthy post with more practical info about the different cottages as hard to find that info online. By far the best located & reasonably priced lodging in Highlands area! My partner and I came on the NYC ferry - if you have a car that's best but Kranky's bikes saved us! We stayed in corner cabin F - from their website map it seemed north facing towards the beach (but no, no views of any water) and was on the bigger side with a big porch and more privacy. It did have all those things but if we go back we might choose G (or H if bringing a dog) as these seem to be same size but the porches face the courtyard -- which was a nicer view than just our partial streetview. But with F we could park our bikes on Center Ave if we had to quickly access our room which was nice. Cottages A-E looked a bit smaller but they do have outdoor showers if you go the beach, etc. Between C&D seemed to be a nice separate sitting area too. Cottages A-C also have porches that face the street. Cottages I-J porches only face the street.Cottage F was tidy with everything you needed in a compact, pleasant presentation. The lady maintaining the rooms was very nice - blonde, her name escapes me- & also gave us some tips. We even bought treats for the sweet, resident cat (a neighbor's cat but loves to hang at Summerhouse) at the gas station market across the street. Easy walking to many delicious restaurants, Ice cream plc literally next door. Easy bike ride to Twin Lightowers - great views and interesting museum. We were there a little after peak season so you need to doublecheck that places are open. For the most part, compound is quiet and we never really heard other guests, Occasionally kids in the neighboring houses were really loud. In the main house (if you need to use the kitchen, laundry or a bathroom if you've already checked out) it can get a little more livelier - I think there are guestrooms on the second floor.Overall, we loved our stay!

This place rocks. I'm grateful they were there in the off season when my girlfriend and I got stuck in a squall while boating from NYC in a small fishing skiff. The bungalows are cute and the communal kitchen is really nice to have.
