I initially had a reservation with Budget but switched to Penske based on positive online reviews with Penske and rampant negative reviews with Budget. The first red flag was that the van was not clean at pick-up - dirt and random garbage throughout. Even worse, the actual dimensions for the rental van I reserved were smaller than I requested (10' foot long cargo space compared to 11'11" stated online). Even if my request was unavailable, the fine print online states you would be issued a larger vehicle - not smaller - a headache when you need space. The attendant at pick-up simply said, "They don't tell us."The true condition of the vehicle can't be determined until you are driving: 1. The driver door would become ajar while driving creating a loud wind turbine noise for miles, and at times I had to hold the door closed above the window. The passenger door also had issues but not as bad. 2. A dashboard light would appear that the cargo door was open/unlocked but was in fact locked - very stressful while driving with cargo. 3. Another dashboard light would appear that the airbag was disabled.The attendant was friendly but didn't seem very familiar with Penske. They work for Home Depot, not Penske. Overall, this was a somewhat dangerous ride that was overpriced and not transparent on the condition of the van. Penske needs to invest in professionals knowledgeable with their vehicles. I did not get what I paid for.

Booked a cargo van 2 weeks ago. Showed up on time on moving day after they texted me my confirmation the day prior. They say there’s no van available here or anywhere in the region. They offered no solution besides a large truck - no help or refund. Brandon at the local Penske said it was Home Depot’s fault but they assured me it was his fault. I don’t know how people run businesses like this.

Excellent service during our recent rental with Penske. The pickup and dropoff were both seamless, and the vehicle was in great condition and exactly as advertised.

They give a complete different price at the location than they quote over the phone. I was quoted 1300 and when I got to the location they said that the truck would be 2300. The location is also ridiculously complicated to get into, if not careful you will end up taking the highway to the holland tunnel to NY.

What you get told on the phone, as with any moving company or rental agency, may only be a rough estimate of the cost and delivery schedule. The actual details will vary upon pickup. We were allowed to pick up the truck slightly early, however it was about $500 more than anticipated. The vehicle was dirty and had trash in all areas. The back of the truck was also wet on the inside, so definitely cover your goods with something waterproof in case it rains. I had to take it back early and really stress out because my return date was on a holiday.
