Really bad experience at the drive thru with an employee who seemed new or extremely clueless. I came on my lunch break to deposit money and she kept me waiting for about 25mins before she assisted me. She didn’t know what she was doing and Miscounted my money and told me I was $50 short! She definitely counted wrong because I’m 100% sure that I gave her the correct about. She didn’t even bother counting again. Unfortunately I couldn’t proof she was wrong because I was at the drive thru and I couldn’t watch her do it in front of me. I’m considering switching to a different bank.

If you're reading this review, please heed my warning and stay away. From inception, I was treated horribly by the assistant branch manager, Millicent. Additionally, I was treated poorly by her own boss, the marketing manager. I believe her boss' name is Rona Marcello, or something that sounds similar. My accounts were closed and I was not notified of anything. I was told that notification isn't required, there's nothing to be done, and my check was in the mail, sent certified. Again, I was not notified in anyway that my accounts were closed. Additionally, if fraud was suspected, Spencer's AML/ compliance team needs to work their roles better. I am employed at a PE firm and act as the liaison between my firm and IRS. My background and bank accounts are absolutely squeaky clean, and need to be considering my employment. I read something online mentioning to stay away if you're a person of color. I absolutely believe this to be the case. I will and have pursued this further with FTC and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. There was absolutely no reason for me to be treated as I was.

To all my real estate brokers/Realtor/clients...do NOT, I repeat DO NOT attempt to do business with this financial institution. Their customer service is horrible & their lack of communication is absurd. I was working w them on a refi with an investor and they were so unorganized, charged my client for appraisal BEFORE reviewing doc we submitted, all for them to give us a denial on the refi of an existing asset. And YES, my investor was well-qualified, it just took someone with competence to review his file/docs throughly and ask questions to better understand. It's been 6+ months and my client has yet to receive a refund, they promised for the appraisal and other fees collected.

Nice community bank on Ridge Road in Lyndhurst. Very friendly staff. Bit odd that drive up is only way to conduct transactions. Need to make appointment to go inside.

I wanted to write an update about this place. I eventually went back to them because they offer a lot of good mortgage products for investment properties despite the lack of customer service from some people there. My approach to them would be this: have very low expectations, expect them to ask for a lot of documentation, understand that they will email you docs and then mail them to you as well (which confuses me that I need to fill out both) and expect some of their people to lack charisma. At the end of the day, it's hard to beat their products and I have wound up doing multiple loans with them over the past few years because I understand what they look for now. I can't speak to the commercial side.

No qualms with Spencer. In my experience, I've always found this branch to be courteous, professional, and above all else, patient - no easy feat given my lack of financial savvy and penchant for asking questions ad nauseam. Spencer advertises itself as a community bank with a personal touch and in this respect, I would say that in my experience, they live up to their claims.

This bank is ok, nothing great about it. Thier online bank access is the worst of the worst. It always is down for some reason and wont let you in for at least 12 hrs or better. The give you no reason and no support after hours to find out whats wrong with the system. When you call the next morning to find out whats going on, everyone's clueless about it and they say "its working now". I would try another if you have the choice which you should. I'm pulling out my money next week as soon as I get back home.
