this bookstore is an eyesore to the neighborhood of metuchen. I suggest we all write into the mayors office to complain about this. I mean look at this place. I get complaints of my lawn not being mowed from the township, but this place on one of the greatest main streets in America is allowed to stay? I'm sure you will agree, this place reeks of dirt and disorder inside. I don't think that location is a good place for a bookstore.

Owner is extremely rude. I walked in today with my friend just browsing since there was a sign up stating “book store open”. Not only did the owner not greet us when we said hello, but he made sure to stop us on our way out with some remarks. He asked “what made you want to stop in?” We responded saying we were curious to see what books were there. He replied, “you don’t read. Why are you in here?” . Appalled and disgusted that this disgruntled elderly man had assumed that me and my friend—I of which graduated with an English Literature degree and am an English TEACHER— could possibly not read. Based off what exactly? That we are young women? Do not go here. He does not deserve your business.

Horrible experience. Book store is disorganized, messy, and reeks of cigarette smoke. The owner is incredibly rude and had made sexist comments about women reading. Never going there and would highly not recommend.

Only from selling books point of view, they won’t buy self help, motivational books, nor cookbooks. Only novels, history etc.

This is a nice bookstore. A little unorganized and smells like cigarettes but I always seem to find something good here.

Lots of great things to find around every corner. Make sure you hit the atm first, because it's cash only.

Even though he had a great collection of books and stuff and fairly priced i still dont recommend anyone to go to this bookstore because of that mean/rude owner! I visited this bookstore way back in the mid 2000s when i was in college the first couple of visits was pleasant bought some books, but the last time i was there the owner was all in a bad mood and being a complete A-hole to me because i wasnt buying anything, told me not to go back if i dont plan to buy anything! Plus that old trailer-park just sits there smoking up a storm all day! Its a complete miracle that hes still in business let alone being alive (that all of his smoking did not kill him!) The store had lots of good old books though, liked the store but I CANT STAND the owner!

It's exactly what it says. A Used bookstore. He's only going to have what people bring in. He's a very nice gentleman who's always been polite to me and my husband (both ethnically different. Literally like night and days)

This place is just what it says it is. A used book store that you can find some really cool old stuff in. If you want high end, high prices and some frappychino...or whatever that drink is called, head to Barnes and Noble in the Menlo Mall. If however, you want to take some time to look through stacks and stacks of books for some great reads on the cheap, then you found the right place. The owner could not have been any nicer. He asked if I was looking for anything special, pointed me to the right "area" (stuff is all over the place)...and he headed outside for a smoke. When it was time to pay for the books I chose, he rang me up and overpaid my change. I straightened it out with him so he wouldn't get screwed out of the few dollars he erred on and I went on my way. While I was not there, I question the comment about being kicked out because of race made by another reviewer...Hmmm... The gentleman that was there that seemed to be the owner was speaking with several people all of different backgrounds and ethnicities while we were entering the store. I cannot imagine having a book store in a town as ethnically diverse as Metuchen which is situated in the middle of Edison which is very diverse and somehow tossing customers out because of race...One must ask, did the owner simply walk up to Mr. Bavesh P. and say, "Get out, I don't like the way you look?" Or...is it possible maybe, just maybe, Mr. Bavesh P. conducted himself in such a way as to warrant consternation by the owner and thus the invitation to leave? Like I said, I don't know. I wasn't there. Just sounds a little...off to me. Anyway...you will find all kinds of books all in various states of condition in the store. It is not for the claustrophobic. Stuff (books) are stacked haphazardly all over in some sort of order. I found a book I wanted after moving two stacks that were on the floor to get to it. But, that's kind of the fun of it. It is like a treasure hunt. Check it out if you have some time. Well worth it!
