Did my big chop at Suite Beverly's Black Door Salon last December and always felt welcomed by the staff and my stylist. I came in on short notice due to moving and traveling, so my thick hair needed extra attention. I was apologetic, knowing it's a tough job, but my stylist reassured me as others have before. However, the environment shifted from welcoming to one where I felt judged and uncomfortable when the owner made off-putting remarks about needing more brushes during my detangling and whispered about pricing with another stylist who seemed reluctant to trim my thick coarse hair. I was taken aback when the final service quote for a trim was $40-$50 more than initially stated, which I declined. I left feeling hurt by the unnecessary comments, secretive discussions, and sudden price hike. This salon was my refuge as a black woman with natural hair, now I'm disheartened and hesitant to ever return to any salon. I'm just glad it was me and not the friends, family, clients I've referred here.Services: Shampoo & conditioning

I don't like bashing black business because I know it's hard enough- but I want to save someone from agony! To keep it short, I paid $575- yes $575, for highlights, color, cut & style. When I only came in for highlights and cut. Knowing this I would've went to my old hairstylist for 1/3 of the price for a BETTER outcome. My hair was only PARTIALLY highlighted, she cut most of it off after coloring. So only half of my head was barely colored. Then the stylist added a full color of light brown without my permission- which added 10 years to my age- I'm only 24 and I looked 40! On top of that, my appointment was at 10am- the stylist strolled in without apologizing 30 minutes later- non chalant about her tardiness. No class or home training. You call ahead to respect my time- I didn't even eat breakfast that morning to be on time. I should've left at that red flag. The only reason I'm giving 1 star is for the DECENT courtesy and vibe during the visit. My family and friends almost dropped to the floor when I came home and told them how much I paid when comparing it to my results. I wouldn't recommend this salon to my family's dog.Once again I didn't want to write this review because I never do- but hopefully this will save some poor soul. Btw their prices on their IG don't match in person. I would've added a picture of the style but as soon as I got home I dyed my hair back to Jet Black to remove the tragedy they called highlights an hour after. This is why people choose to not seek hair salons anymore- not like back in the day when people actually had TALENT. Anybody reading this- look elsewhere or simply watch YouTube. Because I'm sure these "experienced" stylists learned from YouTube themselves.

Very pretentious atmosphere. I feel most of the staff are cold and unwelcoming, especially the owner. I was uncomfortable and I hold MULTIPLE!!! degrees and write prescriptions for a living, (Girl bye) I got my hair done and the color was awesome, but the style was not flattering at all. Everyone does not have perfect hair. They don't cater to those with thinness or other haircare problems. They are too busy collecting money from fast OVER-PRICED hair styles and high priced color processes to use weave or pieces. However, that is just my opinion. Fall back a little, and make everyone feel comfortable. Your not all that and you never know who is sitting in your establishment. Everything that glitters is Not gold and everything gold DOES NOT GLITTER!!!!!!!!!!!!

I struggled with whether or not I wanted to write a review but I feel it's important for the owner to understand that some things are just not right and they should consider changing the way they communicate prices. First off, the salon, the people, and the overall energy of the place is awesome. I had been following the black door salon/suite beverly on IG for some time and I was super excited to get my first natural cut and color after having locs for years. We communicated by text before my appointment and I asked about the price, she told me how much the cut and color would be. It was super expensive already (in my opinion) but I was ok with giving it a try. When I was there I discussed my color treatment with my stylist, I told her what I was going for. She then asked do I want color that will blend and look more natural in between visits or color that requires more maintenance. Naturally I said color with low maintenance. That was it, that's all we discussed in regards to the color treatment. She goes on to cut, color, and style my hair. The color was pretty, the cut was ok but I was generally happy with the service. When it was time to pay, the receptionist told me how much the bill was and it was wayy higher than what we discussed before the visit. I asked why and she said "oh your stylist used a certain technique to achieve your color, the balayage technique". So I'm guessing this is the low maintenance technique she offered me without giving me the price details or even mentioning the technique name. It added an additional $124 to my bill! Also, during the wash she asked did I want some type of conditioner and that added another $41 to the bill, no mention of the price when she offered it. I felt swindled. Why not mention the price of the add on color technique you convinced me to get? Why not mention the price of the conditioner service you offered me before doing it? It's bad practice. How do you know I had and extra $165 to pay during my visit? I just feel like they should be more upfront and clear about their prices, especially when it's add on services being offered. It gives off greed, deception, and bad business when you're not upfront about the prices of add on services that YOU'RE offering. It's just plain bad customer service and I don't know how they don't see this.

If i could rate this place zero stars i would. Their prices do not match their services. I paid nearly $300 and my color washed out within one week and the price they charged didn’t even include a trim. Their stylist also criticize your hair and make your feel bad if it isn’t the healthiest. Please be mindful of their “deposit” policy. They don’t tell you it’s non refundable when you send the deposit but if you need to cancel they will not give it back even if it’s weeks in advance. Please do not go here!!! Beware

This salon is very clean and staff members are very friendly and polite. The prices are a little high but it's worth it.

Sadly I will never come back to this salon . First and last time . The receptionist and outcome of the color were the only positives that came out of my visit, as the receptionist was super friendly . I usually go to nyc to get my color done. I decided to try this place due to the work on instagram . I called and asked for prices prior to planing a trip (I live many hours away). I was told no more than about $240 for color over the phone . I didn’t want anything fancy(balayage, etc) . I just wanted 1 all over color. I drove over 5 hours (which is a little less than nyc ).. When I arrived, I sat in the chair and received consultation by the owner or co- owner .. she talked me into getting balayage and said all over color wouldn’t look right . I disagree , and should not have let her talk me out of it . But I figured she knew best . I was then told a price . It was a bit higher than what was told to me over the phone, but i went with it . BIG mistake …After the service was done, I went to the register and the price was DOUBLED if not more . I was genuinely dumbfounded and asked why? I was thentold everything was basically à la carte which was color , base , wash and go , a trimish cut (which I never wanted or asked for technically ). Okay , I realize it’s á la carte , HOWEVER it wasn’t what we agreed upon 5 HOURS AGO when I sat in the chair at consultation . I felt completely SWINDLED AND CONNED . The owner (or co owner ) is no doubt talented and I get complements on my color . But they nickeled and dime everything , deceived me and failed to stick to the price we agreed at consultation .it felt like complete greed to me . I love to support brown owned businesses but sadly would not recommend this place due to the lack of integrity and transparency with new clients . Really sad because the work is bomb but character counts the most . I’ll continue to go to NYC .

I came in to make an appointment on a Saturday. Asked if she could take a walk in, she says no. She said they are closed sunday. Closed monday. I asked if she had anything Tuesday. She said no. That leaves only three days during work hours for people to get a haircut? I work 9-6 every day so I cannot come during their hours, but yet they are not open on sundays? When I left I saw a sign for sundays by appointment only. I was upset to see this because she told me nothing is ever available sundays. So now I have found two new places with better hours and who mean it when they say by appt only. The owner should look into how the front desk is handling things. Also she has no clue about pricing. Told me to bring $200? What? That is so shady to not know your own prices, but be a price gouger. I bet it will mysteriously cost $199.99 when I go to leave afterwards too.

In my opinion, this salon is overpriced without good reason. I paid $150 for a basic wash, blowout & trim…. My roots are still puffy and my hair is not as flat as I know it can get… I plan to restraighten it myself, however, I shouldn’t have to do that after paying $150. They need a better straightener. This is nothing against my stylist as she was extremely nice and careful with detangling and styling. I didn’t complain to her because I made a last minute reservation and she was so nice.On a positive note, the salon is very beautiful in appearance and the staff is very nice. And the natural curly hair styles they do are beautiful. I just wouldn’t recommend going here for a blowout.I don’t think I will be back anytime soon as the pricing for a blow out is ridiculous (esp for the finished product to still be poofy). For context: I have shoulder length loose 4c hair.Service: Hairstyling

My daughter has been going to this place for her back to school looks. As a sophomore and again this year as a junior. My daughter decided to do the BIG CHOP thus time because her curls were taking too much time away from being an active teenager (sports, clubs, music, homework, etc.). The results were spectacular (see pictures from both visits).Jill is an amazing colorist, stylist and person. Jill took her time and caterd to my daughters desires for her new look. We took inspiration pictures and looked through colors. Each time Jill actually customized the color combinations to compliment my daughter's complexion and eye color. I believe they have a special gift af Suite Beverly's and you should try it. And, we highly recommend Jill.

I went there to get a cut. Although my hair is thinning in the front through to the crown, this was specifically explained to the stylist Jillian. I showed her a picture and specifically stated, CUT AS LOW AS YOU CAN GO WITHOUT MY SCALP SHOWING!! I showed her a second option. She proceeded to show me a cut she did on a previous client. Again..I instructed her to go as low as she can WITHOUT my scalp showing. I was asked what color did I want to dye it. I SAID BLACK, but I listened to her and went with a burgundy. Lastly, when she was finished and I looked in the mirror, I hated what I saw. My family couldn't believe what they saw. It was NOT properly edged up, and I had a bald spot right in the crown! I went to work, and NO ONE liked it. NO COMPLIMENTS!! I was asked, wHAT HAPPENED. I am mortified. What a huge waste of money. I called and told them about my experience and the owner reached out to me. Didn't offer any percentage of a refund, but offered a complimentary recolor. I am completely DISGUSTED with the stylist!!

As a first time customer I was beyond satisfied with this salon. The salon itself is very nice and clean. The customer service was AWESOME!!! My stylist Niah far exceeded my expectations!!! I found my new place to get my hair done. I would highly recommend Suite Beverly Salon. My color and cut was gorgeous. This is the first time in years. They really pay attention to your concerns and needs and listen to exactly what you would like done. I am so glad I went to their salon.

I am very disappointed in the service I received from the stylist MALIKA. I showed her pictures how I wanted my hair cut. The first thing she did was wash my hair and then proceeded to tell me I couldn’t get what I asked for. She stated my hair yet have perm and I will not be able to get cut. I am a customer and what I want is supposed to be what I get. I paid over $80 plus tip, for my hair to look exactly how it did when I walked in!!! I should have have thrown $80 away in garbage because that is exactly how I felt leaving there! Customer service is the key to helping your business. With this experience, I will let everyone i know not to come to this salon. Stylist did not do what I paid for!!!! This is why most African American’s do not support our kind!!! If you read this please know that if you were thinking about coming here, BEWARE!!!

I love this place. First the salon is clean and inviting, friendly staff and organized. They take their business seriously and care about their customers time. My service begins close to my actual appointment which differs from other salons I've been to in the past. Not only are they skilled and offer bomb haircuts they care about the health of your hair. Style and haircare which is super important. Pricing is fair considering the services that are provided
