1 star is too generous. This place is rude, exclusionary and extortionate. Don’t waste your time, money and energy.

I’m not one to typically leave reviews, however, this is an exception. I got to class and was immediately looked up and down by the front desk attendant. She was distinctly unfriendly and curt. I forgot to add my emergency contact in the intake form and made a big point of telling me I “didn’t even” finish the form….i just didn’t see it.I’m a fitness instructor myself, I understand how busy it can be with people coming in and taking in new client forms. At the same time there’s no need to be snippy and rude. The overall vibe from the staff was very negative. I don’t think anyone said hello to me, the front desk attendant just seemed irritated with me.I also didn’t see the section about needing socks on ClassPass. Previous bar classes I’ve been to didn’t require special socks. I did think it was unnecessary for me to be called out loudly in front of other class goers for not realizing this. She offered me to buy a $20 pair of socks , however, at that point, I didn’t think it would be wise to stay given how unpleasant the whole experience had been so far.Definitely seems like the sort of place where you have to have a special type of aesthetic to fit in.

Had the worst experience ever and didn’t even take the class!! Taylor G had to be the most unprofessional person I’ve ever seen. I got to my FIRST class at 6:59 am, however, since there wasn’t any parking had to go around the block, look for parking, and run to the class. It started at 7:00am and I got there at 7:03 am on the dot. This woman stared at me, came out the class to look at the time and walked back in the class and didn’t open the doors. How’s that for a first time experience??? I would NEVER recommend anyone go to this location, they will let you stand in the freezing cold without any explanation as to why they wouldn’t open the doors. She deserves to have HR called on her for the absolute misconduct. I have never experienced such unprofessionalism from an institution ever in my life. They won’t get a single dollar, take yourselves to the bar method instead! Right down the block and a way better experience :) ?

I love pure barre Montclair!! Everyone that works there is so welcoming and knows your name! And the classes are hard and fun!

I liked my first class here and was actually planning on joining when my Classpass expired. Unfortunately the girl at the front desk soured my experience. I was 3 min late, and I was aware of the late policy when I arrived, so I really wasn't expecting to be let into class, but I was hoping they might let me in. The woman at the front desk was so rude when turning me away. She really just needs to be properly trained on how to handle this situation gracefully and kindly. I take no issue with the policy itself, but the lack of customer service was upsetting. I'm going to join the other barre studio up the street instead.

1 minute grace period is crazy especially in a location like Montclair where parking can be extremely difficult and your studio doesnt have its own parking. Cant imagine buying a monthly membership, being 2 minutes late and having the door locked on you. I understand being on time is important but 1 minute is insane. Lost a customer

Intense and a thorough workout. Class size is too big for the instructor to give you particular attention, and because of this I felt like it was a livestream video, just that I had to pay 18$ for a pair of socks (required and price is not transparent) and parking just to be in a room that a little too small for a class that large (and sweaty).

So I've never tried Barre before and I saw an ad on Instagram about Pure Barre having the first class for free so I figured I try it. This location was the closest to me so I made an appointment with them. I didn't know much about Barre so I didn't know how intense it would be. They described it as "high intensity, low impact". So there is alot muscle fatigue and isolation but it doesn't cause pain to any joints. Definitely bring your water because it is quite the workout.Pros & cons about this specific location. Pros:-Clean location - right in the middle of restaurants and other businesses so if you want to grab a bite right after you have options all over the place. -The instructor (Colleen) was very kind and helped me with my form during class. She explained everything so perfectly.- they keep in contact with you via text/phone before your appointment so you know what to expect and remember your appointment. Cons:-finding parking was rough especially at the time I went which was 5:30 pm. I parked on a random side street and prayed I didn't get a ticket because I didn't want to park too far and have to walk all the way back. - you're required to have "sticky socks" which is basically just non-slip socks. I had the kind hospitals give you but not the fancy yoga ones. But I was told I couldn't use them and had to use theirs. & the way the front desk girl said no to the ones I brought was a little rude but I let it go since she seemed nice after the fact. But the cheapest was $18, Just for basic black socks with gel dots on the bottom. I'm sorry but I thought that was insane. - right after the class they talk to you about joining a membership and the packages. Which I guess it's expected, but I kinda felt like they harped on it a little too much. Plus the memberships are pricey. Overall I think it's a great experience to try. I'm not sure if this particular business is for me. If i were to come back, it would be because of the class instructor, not so much cause of anything else.

I had done Barre before years ago and decided to take a class with my boyfriend who came to NJ for a visit. The instructor, Wendy was nice to me but not kind to my body. My boyfriend and I struggled but one thing I really appreciated was the instructor was good about correcting your form. That is so important to me a newbie as I don’t want to hurt myself trying a new exercise. The downside of her correcting my form was, what I thought was an “easy” move that didn’t make my body tremble with muscle fatigue turned out to be an actual move that made my body tremble and burn. Great workout and great ladies! I can’t wait to go again!!

I signed up for a trial class online. I was surprised, unprepared and unhappy when, upon arrival, I was told that I needed to buy $16 SOCKS in order to take part in the class (I was wearing regular socks and sneakers). I felt like it was totally unnecessary and purely a money grab. The class was ok and the instructor was kind but for this reason and all of the incessant calls and guilt ridden texts that were sent to me after the class to ensure that I paid for the totally unnecessary socks, I will not be returning to or recommending this studio.

very rude... the free class offered is not technically free as you will need to purchase grip closed socks at $16 if you don't own your own.. I set up a class date and when I questioned this class not actually being free due to this charge I canceled my appointment. I said sorry and thank you and was just hung up on.. no courtesy what so ever!
