Okay so I have been going to this gym for a bit, and I gathered a few pros and cons.
Pros:
1. The welcoming atmosphere
The front desk people are very welcoming, and are so nice! I had a little bit of trouble finding where the entrance was when I was coming here for the first time, and I called the front desk and they were so helpful. All the questions I asked, were answered and in a polite manner
2. The diverse community
Overall, this YMCA has all ages of people, I have seen toddlers but have also seen elderly. There are lots of teens especially in the weight rooms and basketball court.
I would definitely say this a good place to socialize and make yourself a friend!
3. The variety of activities and machines
This YMCA has tons of machines, it has two weight rooms, a stretch room (18+), and a circuit room. Both weight rooms have so many machines and I was surprised to see that they have a hip thrust machine which is definitely fun to hear! Also there are a wide range of activities such as court sports including but not limited to: squash, pickleball, racquetball, basketball, etc. There are also two pools, one that is supposedly small but I find it average size, and another pool that is Olympic sized (aka the large pool.) They also offer a swim team for ages 6 to highschool! And also they offer a sauna which is located in the adult locker rooms!
4. Affordability
Depending on the membership you pick, it will vary the prices obviously. However, the prices seem to be quite affordable and the membership includes everything, (pool, machines, circuit room, indoor track, boxing room, athletic performance lab, court sports, etc.)
Cons:
1. The building could use some remodeling
The building is not as modern as it could be, you pay for what you get. This place definitely has an old school vibe, which I personally do not see as a negative thing, but I can see how some people may not appreciate this.
2. Hard to find entrance
First time you may have trouble figuring out where to enter but they will help you! And after you find it, it just becomes habit. If you park in the parking deck it’s basically right next to the parking deck! So I can see how that’s convenient.
Overall a very good place, it’s quite affordable and I would recommend all the activities it has to offer! This place is my favorite, and I love how it’s surrounded by so many restaurants, places to go, and even a Pilates!

I cancelled my membership today because the monthly fee is getting too expensive. The basic monthly fee $69 on top of $1.10 daily parking fee is too much for a gym. I'm spending about $90 a month. This is not NYC. This is NJ.
But don't get me wrong. This facility is clean, well maintained and staff is friendly.

I've been going to this YMCA for a while now and they're the best one I have ever been to. There commitment to the patrons is customer service first. I really enjoy the YMCA in Montclair NJ.

Staff and patrons are all friendly and courteous. Also, there's plenty of equipment to use at all times of the day. Finally, there's a variety of classes with excellent trainers. I've been a member for over 20 years and it gets better every day!

Long time member of the YMCA, and it's one of the best YMCAs I've been to. Love the amount of classes, workshops and people. Also very affordable.

Went here for my lifeguard training, worst experience ever! The lifeguards are extremely disrespectful and have a very demanding and demeaning tone. The logistics as well of this place are horrible. We have tried to contact head manager of the lifeguard service multiple times and no answer, contacted various times through emails, and calling and no answer. I also saw a cockroach near the pool. Disgusting and dirty environment.

The staff is fantastic. The kids get homework done and then play and engage.
