This place is a neighborhood staple and the staff are friendly and very happy to help. You can safely disregard the few unwarranted lower star reviews. The cocktails are strong and the tap menu is ever-changing and interesting. There's a wide variety of wines, beer, and liquor that you won't find in your average liquor store. If you're only used to the conventional alcohol brands, you won't find them here, but you can definitely find something new you'll love. Worth a stop if you're ever in the area.

Coolvines is the bomb when it comes to wine stores! Their product selection is top-notch, and the staff knows their stuff inside out. Plus, they're not just pros; they're also super friendly. It's like the best combo of expertise and good vibes in one place!

I don’t remember if I left a review or not but truly the best liquor store/mini bar I’ve ever been too we had a relatively small celebrity reunion get together here and it was heartfelt. Add in the impairing alcohol to have in the mini bar and fun authentic staff suggesting the best brain fogging drinks to take home with you, and you have the go to hotspot for fun, frenzied, swill! Five Stars all the way

It’s rare to find a liquor store where the staff are as knowledgeable as they are helpful, but that was my experience here. I’m the annoying “doesn’t know what they want” type who is also picky, but they helped point me in the right direction, never acting bothered. Also, the selection is great and location is clean and well taken care of.

I never thought I would have to leave a review like this for an establishment, but I must. If you are a person of color, DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS BUSINESS. To say that they are racist is an UINDERSTATEMENT. The nerve of you to open your business in a predominantly black area and discriminate against us is out of this world. Based off of the other reviews, I know that you don't even take the road to being professional and apologize. That is a true reflection of your lack of character and respect. You don't greet people when they walk in the store, and when you do decide to interact you are rude. We walked out of there without purchasing anything due to your treatment, and you ran to the register like we stole something. Do better...Be better....That is all....

CoolVines is easily the best liquor store in New Jersey. The staff is amazingly helpful (multiple times I've been offered tastes of store pick bottles that most places would just expect you to buy by sight alone) and friendly; the beer and wine selection is unparalleled (3 Fonteinen, Controvento, etc); the whisky is correctly priced with no rip-off hype-chasing. Finally, they've done a few special tasting events I've been lucky enough to attend, each of which has broadened my wine knowledge deliciously.

This is my first google review ever and unfortunately not a good one. I’ll take the time and energy to write this because I had to process my thoughts accordingly. Today my friend and I left Whole Foods and stoppped by Coolvines to have a nice drink before heading to the museum. Upon entering there were 2 attendees. A cashier who was helpful and the other one I’ll refer to as “that woman”. As we walked thru the 2 aisle store I couldn’t help but feel I was being watched anxiously. That woman did ask if we were looking for anything in which I kindly replied “no we’re just looking.” We then found what were looking for at the register. A cute little $6 bottle o liqour. My friend and I then conversate with the cashier about the different flavors. The other woman is silent but still close by. I’m ready to pay, I take out $10 in cash as I move towards the register to scan the item. That woman proceeds to do some stocking or some type of work behind me. I’m now dealing with the cashier and therefore only her. I hand her my bottle, then I reach back into my wallet to get my ID..that woman says outloud “and do you have ID”. As a flight attendant and customer service worker for about a decade now, I can say that I’ve never spoken to a customers back. However I proceeded to hand my license over to the cashier and then gracefully put my wallet away. I told the cashier “no thank you” and walked out slowly watching that woman in my peripheral vision go up to the cashier to ask her if the transaction went through. Which it would’ve had she stayed silent. I’ve been going to this Whole Foods for years and decided to give Coolvines a chance. However that woman has ruined all chances of a return including that of my colleagues, friends and family. Not sure if it was my youthful look or the color of my skin darling but either way you should NOT be in customer service. You can work as ground crew during taxi, takeoff and landings!!! Also the museum was close so it all worked out :)

I was in wholefoods shopping and I decided to go through the mall. I saw there was a liquor store and went in to see if they had Tequila. As soon as I stepped in, the clerk asked me if I was going to "buy something". I literally just walked in the door. I didn't see any of the bottle labels. I was right next to the door. I had a receipt in my hand from wholefoods so I was literally shopping. I told the clerk "no" and walked out. I will never enter that place again. The customer service is horrible. No wonder their store was empty (no customers).Update: I'm not an "angry" black woman. I know what I heard and I made a review based on my experience. Read their other 1 star reviews. I'm not the first person who have experienced horrible customer service from this business. Their response just adds to the bad experience. In regards to their update: I would have deleted the review if they would have simply apologized. If they would have apologized in person, I wouldn't have given them a 1 star. Instead they called me "angry". I never raised my voice in their store. I didn't write a review in bad faith. The fact that they rather call me a liar speaks volumes to how they treat their potential customers.

How unfair for an out of town visitor to come grab some food at Whole Foods and get completely distracted by an awesome wine store that serves drinks on tap?Say whaaatttt? The only thing they have missing is to have their own products available to purchase by the glass!

I really love how the mayor is allowing all these businesses in the downtown area but they businesses are not even friendly to the public the fact that I work in the same building and can’t have a seat on my lunch break is crazy.

Staff was nottttttt good tonight. Very unfriendly. Laughing and joking with each other but did not respond to "hi" or "thank you" from customers -- just got a monotone "do you want a bag?" Made me uncomfortable and really sucked the life out of what's supposed to be a fun place. Come on guys

Love this place! Women are very knowledgeable about the different types of wine in the store, and there are great cocktails on tap! The store hosts events like wine tastings and silent parties. A nice little hidden gem! I love to pop in sometimes after a long work day!

One of favorite places in the city! Cool Vines Newark has great service whether you are picking something up on the go or staying to grab a drink for a little while. Wine tasting nights are cool. Wednesday are cool when they collaborate with Newark First Fridays for an Happy Hour experience like other with new DJs every week!!

I frequently shop at the Whole Foods that's connected here and always saw this neat wine shop. I decided to stop by for the very first time after shopping at Whole Foods and it was a cool little spot with a variety of local spirits and products. Price is comparable with that of high-end wine shops.Customer service was lacking though. I entered the store and there was no greeting or acknowledgment whatsoever. I look over to the counter and the majority of the staff is there mingling away. Nevertheless, I browsed through the diverse collection and some items piqued my interest. A worker was nearby arranging items and no acknowledgment. A couple of minutes after we came in, a few other customers of a similar race as the staff came in, and immediately they were acknowledged. “Hi welcome, if there’s anything that we can help you with let us know.” ??Was it because we were not of similar race/ethnicity as the workers that we were completely ignored? We exited the store and again it was like my fiancé and I didn’t exists. As much as I would have loved to like this place, we did not feel welcomed at all.
