dental plan is absolutely horrible! had to appeal a cost given to us from the dentist office because we called & got confirmation from an insurance agent it would be covered. called another time a day or two before the appointment to make sure AGAIN it would be covered. got a bill from the office for the full price since insurance didnt cover it! appealed it and they came back and said because there were 2 people on the phone call (wife & husband) that they couldn't give out the correct information to us since its HIPPA. how is it HIPPA when the person who holds the insurance gave consent that the agent could talk? the policy holder (husband) was right next to the other person(wife) and over heard everything. and news flash to horizon- your HIPPA representative paperwork one can fill out to get someone else to talk on the phone, is absolutely insane. you only allow instances where someone is basically incapable of making decisions on their own (ex. in a coma). there is no option on the paperwork for consent given to a spouse as a reason. money hungry greedy people own this company!!!! told us that anything said on a phone call by an agent is basically not guaranteed to be correct information. im not reading through 500 pages of my benefits to figure out the answer!!! you get paid to answer phone calls. answer my questions. im not fishing for the answers through a benefits explanation.
OH- and by the way. they will do everything in their power to ensure you are unable to make complaints/appeal things. the address listened on THEIR OWN WEBSITE to submit appeals to is WRONG. you have to call and pray to God you get an agent that will tell you the correct address. the address we were given verbally over the phone is different from the one listed on their website.

HORRIBLE.....HORRIBLE...ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE.... Customer service sucks. If they don't know the answer or are unable to help they will hang up on your face. Paid for insurance on May 29th. Received ID card on June 5th. Today is 11th and the Insurance doesn't seem to be active. When I call either they say cant locate the profile or a ticket has been raised. So one rep can find the profile and next time next rep cannot . Absolute JOKE after paying $$$$. SHAME ON BCBS. Stop treating paying customers like this. Totally regretting my decision of choosing BCBS

The plan chose a PCP for adults, and my son is 4 years old and still scheduled the appointment and I wasted time and money going to an appointment that I couldn't do. The person who did this work was probably paying attention to his Dunkin Donut cup.

Don’t even want to give 1 star. I work for healthcare and deal with this insurance everyday. This insurance company is literally going to be the death of me. An everyday headache. Patients constantly screaming at me over horizons mistakes. They never cover anything. They never give you correct information. Had a supervisor call me incompetent for THEIR mistake. Hours beyond hours on the phone trying to get claims resolved with representatives that have 0 training or knowledge of the information they are providing. Reps constantly hang up on me with no return calls. Almost impossible to get a manager and when you ask for someone higher I’ve had reps straight up refuse to transfer me. Don’t waste your money on this insurance company. Such scam artists.

The worst insurance company ever! My dad has a spinal cord injury and instead of helping us through this terrible situation, they’ve managed to make our lives worse.they won’t cover anything, they have doctors there that only care about themselves and money ! My dad has payed into this company for years and this is the treatment they give him! They sent my parents/ dad to Nebraska from Kansas City and won’t pay for them to come back, they won’t pay for rehab any longer . My dad received a pressure wound from a hospital and the wound has been there since December, the wound isn’t healing and they won’t pay for him to have surgery to help it heal. The wound is causing more issues than the spinal cord injury itself, and they won’t do anything to help. They are good for nothing!

I'm very disappointed. I've been a long time client of Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield. For several decades, all I ever use them for was for a yearly physical or maybe a quick visit to an urgent care center for an infection. I have serious injuries in my feet. My doctor wanted an updated imaging and I've been denied. Not to mention, they denied me vis a pre-recorded phone call at 8 AM in the morning. I'm appealing it obviously. I've had a multitude of issues with the prescription card as well. For as much money as I pay in premium every month, I am very disappointed with the service I'm receiving. Having to feel like you're begging for help sucks.

Absolute scum of a company. They screw up my payment and don’t take payments from me for two months, never alerted me about it. Then when I went to get my medication my insurance wouldn’t cover it. So I go on find out I haven’t had my payments taken out, then pay them. All for my medication to still be astronomical in price after it was only supposed to be 25 dollars. And now no one’s around to help me? The whole medical field is nothing but a cash grab. You people are absolute scum buckets.

Sending out disgust with Horizon Blue Cross / Blue Shield for dropping the ball on approving my PT this week. The Surgeon's order was in your hands 3 weeks ago, and only after I raised the dead today (after this week's appointments were canceled and given away) did someone with an actual working brain rubber-stamp a form.
Horizon BC/BS needs to be DOGE'd!!!

Do not get health insurance through this company—especially if you struggle with mental health.
Their policies and practices are not just inefficient; they are outright dangerous. In one of the darkest times of my life, immediately after my mother’s passing, they abruptly cut off access to a life-saving medication I had been on for years—without notice. They continuously change the rules on how and when I can access critical, time-sensitive prescriptions, making an already difficult process nearly impossible.
The people on the phone may sound friendly, but they do not listen, and they do not care. Filing a formal complaint? Not an option. They have built a system that ensures patients are unheard and powerless.
To regain access to the medication that has kept me stable, I had to go through three separate appeals—each time being told I needed to retry ineffective generic alternatives, despite overwhelming medical evidence that they do not work for me. I have been navigating psychiatric medications for 25 years. My doctors have the data, the proof, the history—but none of it matters to this company.
Because of their endless delays and denials, I have now missed the window to switch to a different provider, leaving me trapped in this nightmare until open enrollment in November. And for what? A cruel, bureaucratic game that prioritizes cost-cutting over human lives.
It is already terrifying to be chronically ill in this country, especially under the current administration. The last thing I need is my insurance company making me fight just to stay alive—while politicians like RFK Jr. lurk in the background, waiting to strip away access to the medications keeping people like me functional.
What they have done to me is unethical. No one should have to go through this.

Coverage and Premiums are Great.
Staff greatness is 50/50 depending on who you speak with.
