Recently heard that Petsmart uses Marshall, a brand that uses animal testing. You’re an animal shop that apparently doesn’t support animal abuse and takes care of animals but you use products that come from animal testing? How dare you call yourself a ‘Petsmart’ when you aren’t even smart enough to not support animal testing, hope you guys see this.

I hope the owner sees this.
Do something about it or animal control will be called and animal welfare complaint will be made. And names of managers will be mentioned.
I was so upset what I witnessed in Petco of North Plainfield. The animals were living in horrible conditions and were sick! I checked out every enclosure and this is what I saw:
- more than half of the fish tanks were dirty and multiple tanks had more than at least 7 fish dead plus dying ones in them in them, the 2 small gold fish tanks had about 25 dying/dead fish in them all sunken to the bottom which was shocking no one noticed. The salt water fish tanks were COVERED in Algae, you could barely look inside them. The employees are not testing the water / nor properly cleaning the tanks.
- The three hamster enclosures were on the top were filthy with the corner where the hamster go to do their business being SOAKED in pee, obvious signs of negligence of properly cleaning these hamster cages. All three of these hamsters were priced at %50 off (not sure if the discount is because they were sick please read my next observation about the rats)
- The next neglected animals I saw were the rats, who also had a dirty cage with obvious signs that no one cleaned it for a while. Out of the 3 present rats there was 1 that was very clearly sick looking, moving lethargic and its eyes were almost closed and leaking. These rats were priced at a discount from $14.99 to $7.99. (Again: are you discounting just because they are sick?)
- Last observation: The ferret enclosure, which only had 1 ferret, was also not being cleaned. It had a HUGE pile of feces in a corner the one ferret definitely won’t poop out over a night or two.
I can’t comment on the reptiles as I don’t have experience with those kinds of animals.
To add on, there were two employees present and there were not a lot of customers that would be taking up their time to at least clean or tend to ONE of these animals. A heavier set Hispanic girl was working and a heavier set African American employee was present also. Manager could care less.
I hope the owner sees this comment and takes proper action to improve animals conditions. These conditions were the worst and most shocking I have seen out of all the animal stores I have been to, and this seems to be a recent phenomenon as the animals seemed to have been taken better care of a couple months ago (when a young thin Asian employee was working before I witnessed him always tending to the rodents)

Luis is the best groomer ever! My pup looks so fresh and clean—he even got all those little details I never notice. Super gentle and patient too. If you want your pet to look sharp, Luis is your guy! 10/10 recommend. Thanks, Luis! 🐶

I had the worst experience with the vet today. I brought my cat for vaccinations, and the cat was anxious and was acting up. I can understand an animal reacting that way, and i would not fault the vet for being upset. But instead of acting professional, she starting lashing out and screaming. Instead of her facing the customer she sent her assistant to do it. I was accused of laughing at the situation , when in reality i was talking to the person behind me, and did not see what happen inside the office , where the cat was. Then they tried to accuse me of knowing that my cat was going to react that way, which i would not know, since this is the first time for the cat in the vet. This is a cat that plays with my year old son and has never hurt him. The vet was already upset because she had to see a customer who was late, and falling behind in the schedule, and you can tell that anger carried when this happen. She behaved very unprofessional, screaming and telling her receptionist to never schedule a cat anymore. She was out of control. The vet assistant tried to make things better, i have to admit, she was professional and tried to make things more peaceful. This vet needs some anger management therapy.

My wife drove an hour because of our dog. We were on an airbnb trip when we saw red swelling on our dog's butt area and scheduled a vetco visit for today. When we visited, the girl at the vetco concierge told us they actually didn't do anal glend treatments, and we should maybe consult the petco groomers, but it's not really a guarantee, since some do this, some don't. We walked over to the groomers, and Louis, one of the groomers there, helped us with full attention even when we didn't have any appointments, or prior notice. We were aware that this wasn't a professional medical advice, but he knew very well about the systems, the severity, and what we should do. We asked him a lot of questions, but he was patient and answered all our questions, giving us a huge relief by doing so. Really grateful to have met him. Thanks again Louis, hope you have a wonderful new year!

Staff member had an attitude from the second I asked for help. The staff members also apparently have different policies. I bought 4 fish from them and was told if one dies in 30 days they replace it. However, if all die they need a water sample. Well one of them died in 3 days and I went back to get my replacement. I was greeted with an attitude and was accused of buying from a different store simply because I had a container for a beta fish and use it. Then I was told that I can’t get a replacement because I didn’t bring a water sample. When i explained what I was told when I bought the fish I was dismissed. Someone would think if I refund the fish and then they buy another one that is a replacement right? I could have done that but I was so annoyed by the attitude and lack of assistance that was given to me that I just simply left. Literally all I wanted was a replacement and I basically left empty handed because the $6 refund doesn’t even cover the gas I used to get there and back and I feel as if I left with nothing. Worst experience at any pet store I’ve ever had by far.

Horrible experience! The staff was not friendly or helpful. I purchased 3 hermit crabs on Dec. 23rd. I specifically asked the associate if they were all alive when she put them in the box. She said yes. I got home and one was dead! She sold me a dead animal. Here we are Dec. 27th and the second one is dead and the third is not doing well at all. The store smelled horrible and was a mess. I called the Raritan store and the manager Sam was amazing! She replaced the first dead one. I now will have to have the other two replaced. I do not recommend the North Plainfield store at all! They deserve 0 stars. They should not sell animals!
