My son is a 2nd grader who was really struggling with reading to the point the school was insisting I seriously consider keeping him back for another year of 2nd grade halfway through the school year. He was reading at the equivalent of a 1st grader when I brought him to Sylvan. Within 4 months and a lot of help from both Sylvan in their early literacy and then their academic reading programs, and working with him at home on the side, he has shot up from a 1st grade reading level F to a 2nd grade reading level L, which is right where he needs to be. We're continuing throughout the rest of the school year and summer in hopes that he will even be ahead for the start of 3rd grade. Sylvan Learning of Nutley has been a huge help and I can't thank them enough!!
The staff is extremely helpful and understanding as well. Mike and Bill kept us up to date on progress often and the tutors were understanding and patient with my son so that he never had a complaint about going to Sylvan. I can only go by my experience but I'd recommend them to parents in a similar situation in a heartbeat!

Sylvan Learning Center in Nutley was actually my second choice for tutoring. My daughter had been having trouble in math since the last school year and it was getting worse when she reached 4th grade. So we decided to enroll her in tutoring in another center that I won't name. After a few months, I wasn't seeing any noticeable improvement so my wife and I decided to switch to Sylvan instead. The process of getting her enrolled in their Math program took no time at all and they had her tested and starting sessions in the same week.
The staff really made us feel comfortable and explained the process and payment options and such in detail so we knew exactly what we should expect. Mike the Director kept us in the loop on what was going on with my daughter's progress every month or so. She has made a lot of improvement so far, almost a whole grade level improvement, and we have only been with them a couple of months. We still have more work ahead but I'm confident with the results so far that their Math program is going to get my daughter to where she needs to be before the end of the school year. I appreciate all their help, so thanks Sylvan, Mike, Bill, and the other tutors on staff for all that you do!

Our daughter did the SAT review during the summer. She took the SAT in Sept and raised her score by 210 pts.
Our daughter liked the one on one attention which allows her to move at her pace. The instructors are positive , knowledgeable and encouraging.
Definitely recommend!

My daughter Ariana started attending Sylvan Learning in December 2023. During COVID, I couldn't send her to school, and she was forced to stay home. When she was finally able to return to school, her grades began to decline, so I decided to enroll her at Sylvan for additional support. When she was tested, her vocabulary and reading comprehension skills were at a 1st-grade level, even though she was in 3rd grade.
Now that she is in 4th grade, her teachers have given me feedback, saying that Ariana has shown amazing improvement, and her grades are excellent. Mike from Sylvan has always kept me updated on her progress, letting me know where she stood and whether she needed more time in certain areas. I have nothing but positive things to say-just a big thank you to Sylvan!

I started at Sylvan Learning Center in Nutley about a year ago. I’m in high school and I was having a lot of trouble with Geometry and Math subjects in general. Sylvan and Mr. Bill told me and my mom specifically what things I needed to work on to catch up. I started to do better in school pretty quickly, but had to take a break from Sylvan during the summer. When I came back this September I still needed more help with math, especially Algebra 2 for this school year. Since I started back, I've been doing a lot better and this last marking period I had an A in the subject. I still struggle sometimes but Sylvan is always helping me get better and fill in the gaps for things I forgot from years ago or anything I am having trouble learning currently in class. My tutors Mr. Mike and Mr. Miles are really helping me with my math and to get where I need to be so I can not just get through high school but also do well when I get into college. Anyone who is going through the same problem, especially with things like Algebra and Geometry that are sometimes really tough to find a tutor for, I'd recommend Sylvan in Nutley to help them improve.

I've been attending Sylvan Learning Center in Nutley since July for SAT Prep courses for Math specifically. I've been here ever since July and have also added Reading to my prep classes. My scores in total have gone up around 150 points across the test, but when my hours concluded I knew I could improve more with more time at Sylvan so decided to continue. I'm still here in December of 2024 and since continuing my time I feel I've improved even more and I'm looking forward to seeing the fruits of my time and effort with the Sylvan tutors when I take my next official SAT test. For those looking to take the test in the future, especially if you plan ahead enough to allow for the full prep course before taking the test, I would recommend that SAT courses, especially for those like me in their junior year of high school.

When my son started at Sylvan of Nutley, he had tested 3 levels below his grade. He attended sessions throughout the year which were tailored to his needs and by the end of the school year, he had exceeded every milestones! He is now at grade level. This is significant as my son had an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) for many years!Here are a couple of highlights on my family's experience:1. I like the accuracy of the assessments; the results tied with the ones from school2. The progress made at the center were reflected on his school grades3. Communication with Bill and the team is very easy4. This one is from my son, he loves accumulating token and earning prizesOverall, Sylvan exceeded my expectations and I'm very appreciative of the team for their efforts in reaching out to teachers, communicating with me and most of all investing themselves in my son's success.

My daughter has attended Sylvan of Nutley now for almost 8 to 9 months now. Covid as we all know affected alot of children in schools all over the world and she needed help to get back on track as she was below her grade level in reading and also had no confidence in herself. Once enrolled she was given an assessment and began 2hrs a week on Saturdays, the great staff at Sylvan of Nutley from both Mike's to Matthew as well were just great with her. They are in my eyes the best in the business and I thank them for all their had work and patience with every child they deal with. My daughter is now in 4th Grade and she is reading at a 5th Grade level. Thank you so much for your help and dedication.

Our son was struggling in his Math honors class. With the help of the Sylvan Nutley team he went from a C to a B in one marking period. We are greatful for the time, attention to detail, and the individualized action plan that Nutley team provided to our son.

My son loves coming here and learning with Mike. Mike does not rush takes the time to make sure my son understands if he gets stuck on something. It definitely has given my son more confidence in school.Bill is always happy to help and is very attentive in helping with any needs our child needs . Highly recommend it here it has been a true blessing

I guess I'm the odd ball. The only reason I am writing a poor review is because I was given the wrong impression by the staff.I spoke to the guy who sets up appointments for the Nutley location.I had a conversation about my 18 yr old child needing tutoring to pass the HiSet test. I specifically explained how they have special needs, and really need one on one tutoring with someone who can teach them the math needed to pass the test. I was assured they could definitely provide this.So I made the appointment. My child shows up on time and no one knew why they were there. After straightening that out, payment was discussed. We only paid for one session. During this time my child mentioned how they have special needs, but no one ask what their needs were. If they did, they could have concluded that Sylvan Learning center is not going to accommodate them, this way I could have saved the $65 I wasted that day. It was crowded and noisy in the center. They got zero individual attention. They were put into a group of other students and given a tablet to work on. A child next to them had her tablet turned up on high, and it was very distracting.Very disappointed, and I feel like we were lead on to believe they understood this student's needs. But on the day of the appointment, the only subject discussed in detail was payment plans.
