As a patient of HSS for many years, I would be remiss in not giving a shout out and special thanks to JAMES KIM, MRI tech in Paramus! I was scheduled for bilateral knee MRIs, and he came to my car with a wheel chair to escort me in and again on discharge. He was kind, pleasant, patient professional and the epitome of the excellent staff in all disciplines at all HSS facilities.

The physical therapists are excellent but scheduling front staff are so bad , do not respond to you to schedule , give you a month apart for PT which could be risk hazard

Physical Therapy: I had a really great experience with physical therapy with Erica! She was super friendly and helpful. I was being seen post-op for foot and ankle surgery. The front desk associates are always friendly and helpful. It's a little inconvenient to schedule appointments by calling every week. Overall positive experience.

This is not the same hospital it once was. I have had numerus surgeries at the main NY hospital in the past. Dr. Weiland saved my hand, Dr. Della Valle did a hip replacement, but, doesn't accept Medicare anymore. Dr.Ellis performed foot surgery and Dr. Helfet saved my mother in law's life. I've seen Dr. Warren for shoulder issues. . All of them were so great in the past, always willing to spend time with you. Now, it's a meat market surgery machine. As I Am having trouble with my left hip and Dr. AST will not see me unless it's just for surgery. So even though I know I do need surgery, he doesn't even try to find any alternative treatment before hand, Unlike Dr. Della Valle, he's a meat market surgeon.Currently, The Paramus staff is inept with giving you the correct information, rude, as well as their patient services. I would not recommend them anymore.

I compliment the staff and systems at HSS Paramus staff and medical associates and especially my surgeon Dr. Michael Ast. The site is immaculate, the staff is courteous, and professionals who obviously take pride in their work. Dr. Ast is simply outstanding. Highly professional and accomplished, he is smart, caring, sincere, empathetic, very experienced and knowledgeable! He spends as much time as you need on your initial consultation with him and then in any follow-up meetings. He is kind, and funny and puts you at ease, especially the morning of the surgery when he stopped by to review things. His ability to explain the process, what to expect, what to do and not to do, etc. is excellent. Hopefully, I will never need another knee replacement but if I ever do, it will be under his care.

Don’t bother - been trying for over a week to get someone to call me back to no avail. Too many other good pt facilities to waste my life chasing these clowns.

Wasted three (3)+ months sending/faxing previous records to them in the hope that they would help me (have problem with TKR done in 2019, with lower back/groin/hip pain/imbalance when walking-fall risk). HSS has reputation for "being the best" in orthopedic care. Well, their Paramus office did not live up to that reputation. Kept telling me they did not receive faxes/info. i sent them (kept resending same over several times). Finally, was able to get an appt. Then had to call them to schedule xrays/MRIs. Was ultimately told they "could do nothing" to help me; was given the names of three HSS spinal surgeons in their NY office and also told to try to find a NJ spine surgeon, if I wished. Visit w/NJ spine surgeon yielded no resolve (dr. was downright hostile and told me to go back to HSS). Am back to "point A" again. Does anyone know a good orthopedic dr. in Northern NJ that truly gives a damn about their patients and their welfare?UPDATE; I ultimately called the three HSS "spine surgeons" that Dr. Baxi had given me the names of; two out of the three do not accept Medicare/w supplement plan, the third has not called back after leaving two messages. Thanks, again. Also thank Dr. Carli for no follow-up (initial dr.)

Physical Therapy level of care is great and the PT's are great. The biggest disappointment is the hoops you have to jump through to schedule appointments. They only ever schedule appointments two weeks in advanced and you have to call each week starting Monday to schedule the newly opened week, and only by phone. The time slots get reserved almost immediately so you have to be on the ball with calling each week, which is really annoying and not realistic for busy people. This makes it nearly impossible to have a consistent schedule for your treatment (like if you wanted to come every Tuesday at 6pm) and is just a really inefficient way to handle scheduling. It's a shame because the treatment regiments and PTs are very good, but for every ounce of pain they help you get rid of, the scheduling process inflicts double!

First they call me and tell me to come early because the client before me didn’t show up. I rush over to be early as requested and then when I arrive they tell me the patient showed up late and so now I have to wait. My original scheduled appointment is now running late because the person before me was seen late and is now cutting into my appointment time. It’s been 50 minutes and I’m still waiting. Incompetent staff.

I have had entirely different experiences. I had severed my ATFL ligament in Scotland while playing golf. I called HSS from Newark airport when we landed, and they said come right in, Dr. Wang will see you. And he got the ball rolling. Informative, caring, took his time with me. A year later, I saw Dr. Osei with a trigger finger. Same thing: caring and patient, problem and solution described clearly, in detail. Treatment effective. HSS Paramus is well organized, and runs smoothly.
