“Shoppers today may not believe this, but the building housing MyUnique Thrift Paterson is ACTUALLY 120 YEARS OLD! It's original purpose was as one of the first department stores in the history of downtown Paterson. It was originally known as Quackenbush and built to replace the original store which burned down in the Great Paterson Fire of 1902. Quackenbush took up six floors of the current building with each floor covering a different type of product. Walk to the middle of the current store, and you'll see a double spiral staircase. THAT IS THE ORIGINAL STAIRCASE. An architectural marvel. Although it has been refurbished several times, it has still held up over the decades. Today's store, while lacking the charm of the original, still pays homage to the spirit of Quackenbush. MyUnique Thrift Paterson has the standard of a true store of this kind. Good products at good prices. The service can be a bit impersonal but it's a different clientele these days.”

“As far as I can tell there are only two Red, White and Blue thrift stores in the Northeast - one in Waterbury, Connecticut and this one in Paterson, New Jersey. I've made the journey to both locations multiple times and have yet to leave disappointed. Our latest excursion to the NJ location was no different. Right out of the gate, we got an unexpected bonus when we noticed a man selling tamales out of a cargo van in the parking lot. Now, if there's a better way to start off a thrift shopping sesh than with bootleg van food, I'm not aware of it. So we're obviously in for a treat. Both RWB locations are laid out pretty much the same with a massive selection of shoes up front followed by a housewares treasure trove that consists of what seems a like 50' long aisle strewn haphazardly with pots and dishes and smaller items in plastic bags. However, at the moment I'm pretty well set for nasty old Velcro sneakers and chipped depression glass and Bunnykins so we move to the real draw here - a half-century's worth of the moth-eaten sartorial discards of North Jersey's rustbelt. Now, I'll start by saying this is no suburban Goodwill or Plato's Closet and so if you're looking for nice-smelling North Face fleeces and Khakis, you're gonna be a stranger in a strange land. However, if you've come for corduroy and velvet blazers, bowling-themed garments, double-pocket polos, Western-themed snap-buttons, plaid golf slacks, padded hospital socks, paisley bathrobes, Barry Manilow t-shirts, vomit-hued cardigans or striped banlon, all grimy and caked up with that naphthalene and black mold-ridden thrift store goodness, then you are where you were meant to be. But of course stay outta my way because I'm tryna grab up all that nasty ass crap for myself. This day's haul included some great finds including many unfortunately-patterned sweaters and polos and a camel-skin blazer. But perhaps best of all - a custom T-shirt from a girl named Sophie's quince and the Brodhead Family's family reunion from 2015. However, the Holy Grail of the day's haul was without a doubt, the custom-printed Vince Vaughn collage sweatshirt. "You don't need that," sneered my wife when she saw it in the cart, though she must have known that I did in fact need it and there was zero chance I wasn't buying it.”
