The Proprietary House is one of the most historic buildings in the United States. Completed in 1764, it is the only remaining official royal governor’s mansion still standing in the original 13 colonies. It has served as a residence, a stylish hotel, a private mansion, and now a museum. The location offers tours, including a Historical Experience tour and walking tours, which are described as great, thoughtfully prepared, and above and beyond expectations. Staff and guides are noted as friendly, very knowledgeable, careful, delicate, and passionate, bringing history to life. The beautiful tea room is a must-visit for its complimentary delicious desserts. Many visitors report a haunting atmosphere, with sightings of ghostly aspirations and figures in the windows, adding to the nostalgic and emotional experience. The place is considered beautiful, magic, breath taking, and important to United States history, making it a highly recommended visit for anyone in New Jersey.
I took a walking tour organized by The Proprietary House and it was above and beyond expectations. There were several leaders and all of them knowledgeable and friendly, and the entire event was thoughtfully prepared. Highly recommend! They definitely do their city of Perth Amboy proud.

I live 6 houses up from here, and I always remember as a kid playing in the parking lot and saying to my friends you can see a ghost at the top window. I also did a couple of tours and it was a good experience. I will be bringing my kids next time!
