The employee gave us a partially empty tank and told us incorrectly that we should fill it up and Avis will reimburse us. On dropping off the car we were informed that was not Avis’s policy and that we wouldn’t get back our $35. They had the audacity to say that at best I would get back $10.
Not only was I inconvenienced by being given a car with a partially empty tank, I was stolen from. I highly recommend not using this center as they are not aware of company policy.
Secondly, they gave us a dirty car and when I pointed it out the employee actually blamed me for dirtying it. Lovely service!

On June 9, 2025, I encountered an unpleasant experience with an Avis employee named Andre. His demeanor was notably rude, which made the process of renting a vehicle extremely uncomfortable. He publicly announced my personal information, causing embarrassment and frustration.
During our interaction, he instructed me to take a photo of the car's mileage, but his tone was disrespectful, filled with unkind comments that were unnecessary. His behavior not only insulted me but also created an overall negative atmosphere. It was clear that his conduct was unprofessional and did not align with the standards one would expect from a customer service representative.
Andre mentioned that he has been with Avis for seventeen years, yet his communication skills and approach to customer service were sorely lacking. Given the nature of our interaction, I believe it would be in the best interest of the company to reconsider his position. It is crucial for employees in customer-facing roles to possess strong communication skills and a respectful attitude towards customers.
I hope that this feedback can lead to improvements in training and customer service practices at Avis, ensuring that future customers do not have to endure a similar experience.

They won’t allow me to make a credit card payment over the phone which is just kind of insanity in this day and age. Terribly disappointing and inconvenient and not at all how a functional business should run.

“Avis Preferred - Worse than not having it”
Like most of us I really don’t like ever leaving poor reviews (Maybe I’ve left 2-3 in my life?) but had to at least jot something down.
After a lot of email hounding I decided to sign up for Avis Preferred just to try it out - We travel sometimes and figured it might make sense. I’ve now had two experiences with Avis:
Trip one - I booked a car to pick up in Albany, NY - I showed up, no cars were available …. Had to leave at midnight in an uber
Trip two - Rented a car to pick up in the Albany, NY area - I picked it up to make some light travel while in the area and then drop off location was down in Princeton, NJ. When I picked up the car it had a slightly odd smell but I chalked it up to cleaning. Car looked in fine condition when I did a walk around.
I drove the car for two days sparingly, tried to be ultra considerate and then returned the car to Princeton NJ. I was late (Hours closed at 4 and I dropped it off at 4:20) so naturally I should incur a late charge which I did. But for some reason I received a $250 cleaning bill. Now if I dropped something or anything of the like I’d own up to it and eat the cost. But I’m completely baffled as to what this $250 cleaning fee could be outside of just Avis trying to get revenue wherever they can.
Anyways - Hope this is helpful for someone - I’ll be migrating back to just normal car rental from now on, maybe I can find another better company.
Note: The individuals at the Colonie Location where I picked up the car seemed super nice, no one involved overall has been unpleasant - I’m sure every individual is just doing their jobs!

Fine place, but their systems were down and had me verbally provide my credit card number, expiration date and security code to charge. I confirmed with the man behind the window that the paperwork would be shredded. I received a phone call confirming the paperwork with my cc info was shredded. And then a week later, I have a credit card charge to a Hilton hotel in Indiana. I live in Phoenix and know no one in Indiana. So, be careful with this place and don’t allow your information to be shared with them in anyway to be saved. I should’ve been more careful, but as a result of this I will absolutely not be returning here. Shameful

Very helpful and efficient after my car was in an accident. They offered me a Kia Niro after we discussed my comfort with electric vehicles. The car was very clean and drove wonderfully.

The car was dirty and obviously never washed when we picked up the car and when we asked for a clean car, we were told they were all uncleaned. Worse, when we returned the car, the agent charged an extra hr when we returned timely and the agent never told us we were late. Fortunately, we called an Uber which has time stamp showing when we were picked up. Further, the way the agent dealt with us made me felt suspicious so I took a photo of the returned car which photo also has the time stamp. With the double evidence, we were able to show we were not late, but we have to jump through hoops to prove our case to get the refund!!! Renter beware!

The team at Avis took a stressful situation and turned it around. Very friendly staff that treats
customers with patience and empathy. They’ll make it effortless to get you into a nice car - and the cars themselves are tidy and modern. Highly recommend Avis for your next rental. Kevin is the man - goes above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of. I didn’t get the name of the woman at the counter, but you can tell she cares about her customers and makes an effort to remember who they are and gives a personal touch to the rental experience.

Had a GREAT experience here! Both employees, one for pick up and the other for drop off were really friendly which I really appreciated. The type of car I rented was unavailable and he had to upgrade me. He gave me my choice of vehicle being more concerned with me getting a car than the bottom line which I've never experienced without getting an attitude. There are many car rental places nearer to my home but I will return here due to the professionalism and outstanding customer service I received. Many thanks to Dylan and Michael!!

Returned a car here today after renting it in PA. Left my ez-pass in the car by mistake. Called within an hour of dropping the car off, no response and kept getting rerouted to the call center who could not directly connect me to the location.
Someone from the store finally called me back 2 hours after making the return to let me know they already rented out the vehicle - there is no way they cleaned this in between rentals. The associate said he was going to try and reach out to the person they rented the car too. Associate called me back to say they rented the car to another individual and it was due back June 1st but they did not take the person’s phone number to be able to contact them.
How does a large, established company rent out a just used car in under 2 hours of return and then also not take a phone number for a reservation? This is unacceptable.
