Very disappointed with our experience yesterday. We went to meet a dog We were very interested in with our two dogs and our daughter. We had explained that our one dog might not give off a good first impression and to just give him some time. The meet didn’t go as well as we hoped and when we asked for a second meet, the woman wanted nothing to do with it because of her first impression of him, and said she could not release the dog to us because if something happened in our home. She then went on to explain her fosters and how one gave the other one stitches. Not saying that this would happen in our situation, but how is she allowed to have dogs in her home that don’t get along but we don’t even get a second meeting with a dog we are very interested in. She was very short with us and eager to go back inside. I wish I had read the reviews before going, these animals need homes and these volunteers aren’t giving people a fair chance. Sadly it’s easier to go buy a puppy instead of helping a dog who really needs a home.

Love this rescue and the volunteers and staff. Incredibly dedicated to their rescue animals. Adopt, don't shop! Or foster! Until every cage is empty.

I hate it because we were denied a puppy with no explanation at all. We live in a good home with and big fenced-in backyard and my dad has a company and sisters who love dogs. We put great things on the applications and we want a new family member. we saw a lot of white folks getting a dog and we were excited to get a dog but we got denied. Me and my family think that they are racist because we are Hispanic and other Hispanic families say they got denied to adopt a pet from the eleventh-hour rescue. People need to be kind to people and get to know them and not judge before you get to know someone. We are a kind-hearted family and they judge us because of are nationality

Decided it was time to have another dog after the passing of my previous bud. Went to the store at rockaway mall, and after a few minutes of looking around, found a little nugget I wanted to meet. The application and vetting process took about 30 minutes. The intro in the meet up room went well and fell in love with the pup. It's been 7 years since and couldn't be happier. Although, he's gone thru 2 acl surgeries this year, he's recovering well and can't wait til the spring to continue with our trips.

I recently submitted an application for adopting a dog and after all my references were checked I received an email congratulating me on my approval to adopt a puppy. My family and I were so happy and eager to meet the puppy we were interested in. We received our approval on November 11th and on the following Saturday Ehr sent me an email at 6 am trying to coordinate a meeting. I had no idea I needed to be on alert to check the emails so I didn’t get to it until later in the day when I responded. I was then not told anything until 6am again the next day. That’s when I found out the dog we wanted to adopt was adopted yesterday. I expressed my desire to need transparency because I didn’t know that if you miss one email you miss the dog. We truly wanted to meet the dog but weren’t able to which is sad but fine and happens. Following this I was told by Ehr that I could have the option of selecting another dog and was given two other options which we did not feel would be a good fit for our family. We have 7 acres of property, chickens, and two small children. We wanted a family dog that could be at home on our mini farm and have everyone safe including our chickens. These were all expressed to Ehr. After saying these dogs were not what we were looking for and that I would keep looking the person I was speaking with said “wonderful, thank you Samantha.” Literally minutes later I sent another email outlining some of the possible dogs we may be interested in. I then received an email saying that my application for adoption was not approved. So basically it went from being able to adopt a dog on Saturday to not being approved on Sunday after saying no to the two dogs the person wanted me to look at. I responded to the email and the person multiple times and even wrote on the Facebook page asking what changed in a span of a few minutes to now deny an already approved application. This seems like a person act to stop my family from adopting a dog unless Ehr can dictate which one you can have. Not sure why a person would do such a thing, but I’m more concerned with the fact that Ehr is fine with this and will not respond or contact me back. I’ve literally done nothing wrong besides say we didn’t want the dogs she suggested. It’s crazy. I never would say not to adopt a dog or animal from Ehr because all of their animals need loving homes; however just know that they will take anything you say personally and if you don’t do what they want they will revoke your application and ignore you. It happened to me. Horrible first impression and a big miss on their end. Our but we will adopt elsewhere with a more friendly and mission driven approach to rescuing and rehoming animals in need. These animals need good homes, and some of them will now wait longer now because of how Ehr pushes you outside of your adopting comfort zone. I’m sure I’m not the only one. Happy adopting everyone.

A bunch of truly amazing volunteers helping these animals find forever homes. I found their locations to be clean and all of the pets were so well cared for. So hard to choose just one to adopt. I have gone to a few of their fundraisers as well, and had a great time for an amazing cause. Thank you to all of them.

We were approved and went to a puppyfest to see if the dog we wanted was there. She was not so we looked around and found a 5 month old shepherd-pointer mix and took her home that day. The ladies at the festival were all very friendly and courteous. The lady who took Blaze out of the crate and walked with us was great. We love Blaze renamed Katie. We went to the vet today and the vet was impressed on how well Katie was documented and had all her shots and was in perfect health. We are very thankful to Eleventh Hour Rescue and Lone Star Transport Dog for bringing her up from Texas.

I had a great experience adopting a pet through 11th Hour Rescue. They were honest and upfront throughout the whole process. Communication was timely, and everyone I communicated with was helpful. They went through the references process quickly, which I appreciated because we were eager to move ahead with adopting a new dog. I also found that their site was updated frequently, so it helped with selecting a dog that was truly available. The staff was awesome and well trained at helping to ensure that the new puppy was a good fit with our current dog in their initial meeting. Overall, it was obvious everyone associated with 11 Hour Loves dogs and they wanted to ensure their animals were going to go a good home.

If I could give this shelter a zero I would! I'm so angry right now. We just got denied for getting a puppy with no explanation at all! You literally couldn't have a better, more normal family than mine. My husband is a TEACHER and owns a woodworking business. I am a NEWBORN AND FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER. I work from home. Someone is home all the time. We have 3 little kids. Awesome kids that just want a puppy. We have a large, single family home in East Hanover in the nicest, quietest neighborhood with a huge fenced in backyard. We unfortunately had to re-home my husband's last dog because she had aggression from epilepsy. She would nip and growl at my son when he was a baby and we were afraid she was going to bite his FACE. We worked with the shelter we got her from to re-home her and she quickly got a new family within a matter of days. My in-laws kept her at their home until then. This was over 5 years ago. We did this process completely responsibly---is that not the way shelters would want you to do it?? We didn't throw the dog out on the street! We are the most loving family with a beautiful, safe environment for an animal. This place is insane. And they wonder why there's thousands of these poor animals stuck in cages. Because they don't do their due diligence and actually get to know the people looking to adopt. Come to my beautiful home and see you seriously made a HUGE mistake. Now the poor baby we wanted is still sitting in a cage when she could have been cozying up next to me on the couch in a warm, loving home. RUN from this place as fast as you can.

This place is a joke. My husband and I were denied for NO GOOD REASON. We have a perfectly happy & healthy home, as our THREE references stated, and also a perfectly happy and well loved pup already. Such a waste of time, don’t bother filling out an application, just go somewhere else

This was our first time adopting from EHR. We filled out an application, they called all of our references, and within days we were approved and able to meet and adopt our new baby! The animals are very clearly loved and well taken care of. The foster said that they spent a month vetting her, took care of her fleas, and she stayed in a luxurious spare bedroom with a window overlooking the neighborhood. The foster and rescue have both followed up with me asking for updates and pictures. This is a phenomenal rescue that truly cares about animals. Thank you for all of your hard work, EHR! Absolutely recommend this rescue to anyone.
