This is a great venue to see a show. The on-site parking can be a little tight, so show up early.

I am taking the time to write this review because I truly want to protect young children from the lewd content of the version of Romeo and Juliet at Two River Theatre. My little girl's private school planned a trip to the matinee after being approached by Two River Theatre's group sales for schools. Two River Theatre solicited local schools to attend what I consider the absolutely horrible production of Romeo and Juliet by claiming that the production was appropriate for children in 7th grade through 12th grade. I also attended the play. While I wish that my little girl and I, as well as the other 140 children from the school, never saw the horrible graphic content at Two River Theatre's version of Romeo and Juliet, I know that it is good that I know the graphic lewd actions that my child was exposed to. I phoned the theatre to speak to a staff member involved with group sales to schools and I spoke with Jennifer. I asked how could such a graphic show be promoted to young children and I noted that it is a crime for adults to expose minor children to pornography. Jennifer pushed back by saying that she does not consider the show as pornographic because there is no full nudity and all acts are simulated. She also noted that there is a disclaimer. It is true that the website noted, "This production contains strong language, adult content, violence, and depictions of suicide.", but that does not begin to touch on the lewd content in the production and how certain portions of the show have nothing to do with Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. That disclaimer seems suitable for a typical production of Romeo and Juliet. The production at Two River Theatre is not typical and, again, has portions unrelated to Romeo and Juliet. A whole section of the show addresses an imagined graphic adult relationship that a well known singer had with clouds that resulted in a certain color rain while one of 'the actors' used gestures indicative of profanity and actually used profanity. The character of Romeo even wore a shirt that had profanity on it. That staff member that I spoke to that defended the lewd acts by stating that they were simulated seems to want to ignore what was actually simulated. When a parent sends their young13 year old child on a school trip to see Romeo and Juliet, I truly do not believe that any parent would expect the actions of the actors when there was a line relating to delivering a blow to another man's sword in what would usually be a scene showing a sword fight. I was appalled when one male actor began to undo and take down his pants as the other male actor moved closer to him and dropped to his knees. The lewd implication was shocking. It is sad to say that was not the only lewd act that was simulated.I am disappointed in Two River Theatre for exposing young children to what I consider lewd and pornographic acts. Citing legal sources, "Pornography means the possession, sharing, or production of any known obscene material in the school environment.", and Two River Theatre staff members did solicit schools to attend the production. For those that might say that there must be an intention to arouse or stimulate to claim that the content is pornographic, then I will say that the show fits that description because a simple kiss caused a male character to simulate what he seemed to imply was an uncontrollable reaction. That reaction was simulated multiple times during the show by multiple characters. I will also note that there were many adults in attendance that were not with the school. Many of those adults did not return to the show after the intermission. There were so many vacant seats after intermission. My guess is that many in attendance left because they were disgusted by what I consider a vulgar distasteful performance. I would have applauded the faculty members of my child's school if they stood up and announced that they were taking the children out of the theatre. I will further note that I have contacted many local schools and school boards to aler

I saw the board teacher's comedy show here with my friend. You can buy alcoholic beverages, but they are limited in what they have. That being said, they seem to have more options than most theaters. We were in the loge. There are plexiglass windows that interfered with my view of the stage. They do not have anywhere to put your drink, so you have to make sure you put it under your seat so it does not get spilled. I doubt there are really any bad seats in this theater because it is small.

I love this theater and we have enjoyed other productions here in the past. Unfortunately, Romeo and Juliet is a complete disaster. The adaptation seemed to be designed to turn this play into a parody. The entire thing was ridiculous. We left in the middle of the show, sorry that we had wasted our time and money.

Saw living and breathing in the small theater. It was a great experience in a great complex. Nice to have an amazing theater so close by.

The writer that I am, leads me to write this review:I was hired by 2 River 3 times . . . which says a lot right? It speaks to my worth as an artist. I felt like I could be my authentic self there; I felt safe. However, Two River is another privileged institution who "does the right things" (land acknowledgements, etc), has the "correct" policies & protocols in place, has an amazing reputation with their following/community yet . . . as a BLACK WOMAN, I wasn't protected; I was blind-sided.On the contrary, I was always on time & prepared for the role I had as choreographer, for their educational programs/productions. To add, I followed all the protocols in place. The lives I've touched, transformed and inspired through my work as an DANCE EDUCATOR didn't matter when the [people in charge] allowed 1 uncomfortable teenager to influence their view of me, which led Two River Theatre to give into their Parental Bias, in order to overturn & question my work/value. No one had my back!At the start of THIS season, I was forced to step away from their production because I DIDN'T FEEL SAFE. I didn't want to have to "state my case," to another privileged institution . . . yet again! I was heartbroken because once again, I was sought-out & hired by Two River 3xs. I was so excited to work with Two River again + I started to gain some respect/engagement with their program students. And what most privileged institutions tend to do is "cover their xxx" to make it seem like they're on your side; I was also paid per my contract BUT I was sent a form to sign, stating that we "mutually agreed to terminate" my contract. Though it didn't feel mutual at all. It was all gone . . . in an instant! Moreover, if the directors/production staff even knew about the hardship(s) that I was/am facing . . . they'd probably be shocked that I even came to work . . . with a smile!#disappointed#shareyourstory#moveDIPR

We went to see Romeo and Juliet here, it was a very enjoyable show in the black box. The cast was very talented and the staff were all very professional. I would absolutely see more shows here. There's a lot to do in this area which makes it very convenient to plan a day here. Bravo!

Nice space and great production of Wine In The Wilderness. My only complaint would be that the seats need to be updated, felt very tight.

I reasonly assured on 11/15/22 by the Marketing Director that the accomandations will be more welcoming on my next visit. "God Bless and God Speed" The Two River Theater was not accommodating for my seating needs, I traveled over 50 miles to attend the show. I immediately requested my refund, it was granted and it was returned to my account immediately. I was so upset that I couldn't enjoy the show with my guest. So I just waited outside the theater in my vehicle until the show was over. So my guest, whom was a Birthday celebrant, could possibly enjoy their special moment. My special moment and day was completely ruin. I specifically gave the ticket seller over the phone, all my essential handicap details. Yet it turned out to be very deeply disturbing, that I would not be able to see the show in comfort at all!Rev Murray ???????
