We spent $12,000 for 3 AC units - of which one immediately wasn't working and we were quoted $9,000 to "fix it." This company is everything a customer is scared of when booking a contractor - the AC units don't work, we couldn't get a response from staff on resolving it, and we were charged for work we were told was under warranty. Without exaggeration, this contractor experience was as bad as it gets. The average review score of 1.4 stars is real, I only wish we read the reviews. Our issues: 1. Company ignores customer rather than resolve problems - We contacted Hamilton Air about multiple issues, we were in touch first with George Kairuz who completely stopped responding to emails after a few weeks, as well as Matt who promised to call back each of 4 calls and never did. An honest company would resolve a customer issue, not ignore it. 2. Company lied about a service call for the broken AC unit being covered under warranty when we asked about booking - once the service call was made (3 months into the 12 month warranty period) they sent a bill for $375. No fixes were made during that call, in fact their team came out to simply agree that the AC unit did not work. 3. Our third AC unit doesn't work. Still. 8 months after installation.

I agree with the reviewers to stay very far away from this company. My apartment building has historically referred them to all of the coop owners so we went to Hamilton air for all of our hvac issues -- including annual servicing of our ptac units and purchasing replacements units a couple of years ago. The people who manage the office and set up service and installation visits are horrendous -- Beth and Trish(?). Not responsive and aggressively unhelpful. This year, after extremely frustrating experiences with the office when I needed to replace more ptac units during a heat wave, I emailed 3 other random companies for quotes (just the first three hits in response to searching for "ptac installation nyc"). Not only were each of the companies (responding the same day -- something that does not happen with Hamilton) able to come out that week, as opposed to the end of the summer, I realized that Hamilton was, and apparently had been, significantly overcharging us -- their quote was ~$10k (after having charged $1500 for a service visit) vs quotes for the same exact units for $3-4.5k. This is just a terrible business -- I don't know why they have such a lock on certain apartment buildings but do yourself a favor and avoid! ** I read some of the other reviews and agree that some of the service techs (namely Kevin, who should go somewhere else to work, are competent and friendly). The problem is really owner / office. They are sleazy.

This is one of those times that I should have paid attention to the negative reviews. Wish that I could give no stars (and wish even more that I had never heard of this company). Inflated prices plus we got caught in a repair scam. Lessons learned: 1) Take the time to compare every quote that they give you to other stores. That should be enough to keep you away. 2) Never agree to allowing one of their staff to come to your house. Even though the staff is there for minutes and does nothing, these people will begin sending you bills for hundreds of dollars. The world is full of other places to get air conditioners. Go shop at them.

Please pay close attention to all the Negative Reviews. This company deserves them and more. You have been warned.

Worst customer service ever, unfair billing practices. I'll be filing as many complaints as needed until someone calls me back.

what can I say. we bought an expensive a/c unit from Hamilton air 5 years ago. We have called them every year..sometimes multiple times to have it service. this June we bought another new a/c unit to replace the troublesome unit..twice since 6/22 we have had to return the unit for service. I would have to say this is the worst A/C company out there BUYER BEWARE the Service guys are pretty unhelpful as well.

In my view, under no condition should anyone considering which AC service to use hire Hamilton Air. The company is a case study in the dangers of nepotism. Here, a competent and caring founder built a well-esteemed business. Now it's overseen by a family member who lacks the leadership, managerial skills, vision, and - most importantly - the judgment and ethical sense of the founder. We used this company's services for many years - until they did an annual "Spring cleaning" job in my apartment and left one of the units set to the wrong fan speed and temperature settings. Normally that would be nothing; one just adjusts those settings. In this case the unit is behind a metal grate that is extremely difficult to remove. (We had to install the grate to help remediate a horrible rodent infestation.) So I asked them to return to fix this. Since what they were fixing was their own error, clearly they shouldn't have charged me for another call. But no. They had the audacity to charge me. I pointed out that while we all make mistakes, we're all responsible for correcting those mistakes at our own cost. They didn't budge. Annoyed, I elevated this to the attention of the current president. Surely he would understand the irrefutable logic of my point and reverse the charge. Instead, he continued to insist that I pay the service charge - for a visit they had to make to correct their own error. I refused. After going back and forth with him on this dispute, under pressure for me he "magnanimously" offered to adjust the charge down by 50%. I said that wasn't good enough, that I wouldn't pay one cent of the charge. I pointed out that if I stole his wallet, took $100, and then offered to give back $50, he wouldn't consider that a fair resolution. I vowed then never to use these unscrupulous creeps again. Fortunately, I found what seems to be a very capable sales and service company for Friedrich in-wall units like I have (Ace, in Astoria - though I don't have enough history with them yet to conclude anything confidently.) When Ace came this year to service my air conditioners (a very thorough cleaning unlike anything Hamilton ever did or even suggested/offered), we discovered that when Hamilton cleaned it the prior time they left the plug in the outlet hole of the drainage system(!). As a result, the unit didn't drain, instead filling with water, filth, and (probably - TBD) mold. Yet another mistake on their part. Grrr... To be fair, many, probably most, of Hamilton's workers are skilled and efficient, even if a few aren't. The main problem is not with them. The problem is the company's unscrupulous, unreasonable, and incompetent management. If you have a choice, don't use them.

Hamilton used to be the best in the city and came highly recommended to me. Not anymore. This is not the company to use if you are a single woman, live alone, and need a new HVAC unit. The unit that was installed in my condo never worked. It took Hamilton almost a year to remove the faulty unit. The warranty ran out at 1 year and I knew Hamilton was trying to outrun the clock. They finally agreed to reimburse me but told me I could leave the unit on the curb as if it were junk. They did come out several times to repair the unit but blamed the problems on the pipes in my building. Ridiculous. I have lived in this condo for over 20 years and never had a pipe problem. The next company I used charged 1/2 the cost for a much better unit and told me Hamilton was overcharging me twice as much as I should have been charged. I now have a working unit (not from Hamilton) that was 1/2 the price. It's quiet and reliable. Don't hire this company.

Sadly discovered Hamilton Air to be a prime example of what is wrong with so many businesses these days: irresponsibility and greed. You may not have a choice about working with them if they service your workplace, but if you are an individual, you do. They sold us a way-overpriced air conditioner for our home -- that's on us because we did not do a good job of price shopping first. This AC turned out to be a lemon. The follow-up from Hamilton Air was essentially, well, we didn't make it but we will sell you another one (at nearly twice the price of everyone else). We recognized the inflated price point because we had learned our lesson from the first time around. We then got our AC from one of their competitors who had it installed within two days, took the old one away, and gave us a five-year extended warranty -- all for a little more than half of the Hamilton Air quoted price. P.S., the competitor didn't make the AC either :) but their prices are fair and they are willing to stand by the products that they sell.

The worst company to deal with. They are rude, unreliable and will charge for work they haven't done. I will never use them again. All the other bad reviews are accurate. All the good reviews are a fluke.

STAY AWAY Was told that we would be charged under $300 for a repairman to come and look at our units. Someone came and looked -- this person did not touch or repair a thing, literally, didn't even write up a report -- and then they billed me for $600! They fixed nothing, did nothing, and when I called to ask why I was charged $600 and not $300, they said it was $300 per HOUR and the man was there two hours (he was not). Total scam -- they also quoted me $27,000 to replace my HVAC lol. No thanks.

Kevin was excellent and was a trove of information. He was a pleasure to deal with, provided an unbiased assessment of the best way to proceed. His agenda was not for profit, but rather in providing us with all the options, going all out, to doing the most inexpensive yet acceptable solution. I really can't say enough positive about our experience.

Kevin and Hamilton Air were amazing to work with on our recent gut renovation. We couldn't be happier with the installation and system - we are so thankful we used Hamilton Air because not only is their product offering high quality, they were a pleasure to work with and had creative solutions for our situation AND made aesthetic recommendations along the way that really made all the difference!

Hamilton installed a new heating/ac unit in my apt. It didn't work properly and they offered to repair it in-house because the unit was on back order. I've consistently had issues with the "repaired" unit and Hamilton serviced for free initially (they billed me, but I had to ask them not to charge). They never fixed some of the issues and now want to charge me to continue to service. It seems unethical to install a faulty machine and then charge the customer to continually maintain it - but not a bad recurring revenue model apparently.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They misdiagnosed my AC unit's problem. They then performed numerous, unnecessary procedures on my unit as well as the architectural wall that holds the unit! Then they made a mistake which resulted in the unit coming too far into my living area which mademy Manhattan apartment too cramped. It was their error and I asked them to fix it so that I could get back what little space I have in my Manhattan apartment, but they acted like I was creating a problem by not going along with their error. It was months and months of back and forth all the while my units were still leaking all over my floor! By the time they were totally done, it was winter. I said I'd like to pay the balance when it's warmer so we can test the units and make sure the issue is actually resolved (no more leaking). Keep in mind paying the balance meant that I was paying for a lot of work that was not even necessary! They immediately put a lien on my property and have messed up my credit. AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS! Wish I could give them negative stars.
