I recently visited this local post office because I work in the area and unfortunately had a deeply unsettling experience that I feel compelled to share. While I acknowledge that interactions can vary from person to person, the atmosphere and treatment I encountered raised significant concerns regarding racial bias and discrimination.
From the moment I entered, I sensed an uncomfortable tension. As I waited in line, I noticed the staff exhibiting behavior that suggested discomfort or disapproval.
Specifically, the clerk behind the counter, who appeared to be of Hispanic descent ( may have been Caucasian ), repeatedly looked me up and down. This behavior was not only disconcerting but also led me to feel as though I was being judged based solely on my appearance.
Racism can manifest in various forms, often without the need for explicit language or overt actions. Although she may have been a minority too , she was not my race. Make that make sense!
In this instance, the atmosphere of the post office felt charged with unspoken prejudice, despite the staff's outward politeness. It was evident that the environment was not welcoming, particularly towards individuals from minority backgrounds.
My primary concern during this visit was the assurance that my mail would be sent and received accurately. However, the discomfort I experienced has left me questioning the professionalism and inclusivity of this establishment. I find it disheartening that in a public service setting, one might feel unwelcome or scrutinized due to their ethnicity or appearance.
While I appreciate that the staff may not have intended to convey hostility, the impact of their actions was significant. It is essential for public institutions, such as post offices, to foster an environment that is respectful and inclusive for all customers, regardless of their background.
Given this experience, I am hesitant to return to this post office in the future. It is my hope that management can address these issues and consider training staff on cultural competency and the importance of treating all customers with dignity and respect. A commitment to creating a welcoming atmosphere is vital for building trust and ensuring that all community members feel valued.
In conclusion, I urge others to be aware of the subtle dvnamics that can occur in customer service settings and advocate for an inclusive environment for everyone.

Great location! Rarely is it super busy and the employees are always friendly and very helpful. I go out of my way to stop at this post office when needed.

Basically a useless location without a self service kiosk machine.
At least the machine will print you a label.

Horrible experience mailed certified with conformation receipt and took 14 days to come back undeliverable. For an address 2hours away. No faith in the US Postal service

Always a nice, pleasant experience. Small, local and friendly. Sad to see a handful of poor reviews heavily outweigh the hard work of our Saddle River postal team. Let's get it back to 5 stars. Thank you from Fox Hedge road!

Gene, working behind the counter was very polite and helpful. Could not have asked for better service. He was helpful in explaining the differences in services and the prices as well.Sometimes when customers ask about prices other workers in summer businesses can be known to be inpatient, but here Gene was the perfect employee in helping. Thanks!

My regular carrier is responsible and polite. If there is a package which will not fit in my good sized mailbox he brings my mail to the door. Today a package which contained valuable and fragile contents obviously had been pushed to try to get it in the box because the box is damaged. It was too big.

(Guest review by MK). Today a fragile package which would not fit in my mailbox was left next to the box right at the edge of West Saddle River Road. It could have blown on to the road or been stolen. It should have been brought to the house. There is a VERY short walk to my door. My regular carrier would NEVER have done this. There is a noticeable difference in the responsibility of individual carriers. Mail gets delivered when a hold has been placed. Again my regular carrier has always been responsible and more than helpful. Perhaps there is a way to upgrade the level of responsibility and quality of traditional postal service of the carriers who fill in?????
