The JCC, through its Skills and Training Program, promotes itself as an inclusive workplace that provides employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities. Nothing could be further from the truth. My son, who had relevant work experience, was encouraged by the JCC staff to apply to the program and was immediately granted an interview. However, before the interview ever took place, it was abruptly cancelled without explanation. When we contacted the JCC, we were told that one of his references (only 2 of the 4 requested were ever contacted) indicated that our son would require a level of supervision they could not provide, despite the fact that the reference actually indicated that he would only require minimal supervision and some training at the very beginning, and that based on her prior interactions with our son, he could do the job independently and would be very successful. The reference reached out to the JCC to explain or clarify her comments, but was told that the family had already been notified and the decision had been made. The Skills Training Program indicates that "Each participant who is offered employment at camp is supported and supervised by trained staff mentors under the direction of the Director of Inclusion and Diversity." Yet, when we followed up with the JCC, we were told that they did not have the resources or staff to provide such supervision. They never even gave our son a chance to advocate for himself in person at an interview. Instead, they pre-judged him and determined that he was not a good fit for the job without hearing from him in person and without following up with the first reference or contacting his other references. When I explained that he had been diligently practicing for his interview, the JCC informed us that they would schedule an interview to practice his interview skills, but they had already made up their mind. That was the proposed solution from a purported inclusive workplace?!? Reject a kid before he has a chance to interview and then grant him a phony interview so he can be rejected twice? The JCC can not promote itself as a diverse and inclusive workplace and then claim that it lacks the resources to provide the support and supervision to actually employ individuals with disabilities. I am aware of others with similar experiences with the Skills Training Program, and its misleading description provides false hope to a marginalized and underserved community.

i love the pools at the jcc, my family only bought memberships for the pools. i had a great experience with the lifegaurds and staff until i met a swim lesson teacher, Martina. She was so incredibly rude to my little siblings (ages 9). Her tone when talking to young kids is horrible and rude. She is constantly targeting my siblings and it almost seems racially motivated. She screamed at my siblings for being in someones lane but 1, no one was in that lane, and 2, its family swim. Another time she wrongly accused my siblings when really it was another swimmer in the wrong lane. It was so rude that she screamed at them even when they did nothing wrong. Later she came hunting me down in the locker room to remind us. This is supposed to be a place for everyone. We felt so targeted we debated canceling our memberships because of Martina. I would not recommend bringing young kids to the pool unless they can stand up for themselves because they are bound to make mistakes and staff like Martina are not understanding.

Kelly Fetchina has been applauding the Rahway police for violating our first amendment rights. Calling exercising your rights a “waste of t time” and describing auditors as “instigators”. Very concerning and very biased given her place of employment. She should be investigated if she truly is an “educator”

My daughter have been a member on and off at JCC for one year .I recommend to swimming lessons. Teacher very nice and instructor was great. But the dance class is not worth it. The dance manger no nice. Costumes for performances are expensive and average quality.

I can’t say enough amazing things about this camp. I worked here for 9 summers and my coworkers were (and I’m sure still are) attentive to all the children’s needs and they are extremely inclusive to children with disabilities. The supervision is incredible. This is an excellent camp and if I was a parent, I would surely send my kids here in a heartbeat!
