A good solid pizza place with plenty of other options if you're craving something else. Not the best in the area, but very good and unlikely to disappoint

Great food, nice staff and a pretty large space! Really enjoyed meeting my in laws and gma here for a quick early lunch on a Thursday. Service was great- we ordered salads and all of them were huge and delicious. I really liked the burrata- very good and took 1/2 home! Thanks for a great meal! Would absolutely go back- huge parking lot was across the street and used a few quarters I had! So easy!

Alfonso's Trattoria has been a mainstay of downtown Somerville for close to 50 years serving up traditional Italian cuisine and pizza. I love the atmosphere as the interiors are spacious and the brick walls/fixtures add a certain rustic charm to the place. I tend to gravitate towards these types of restaurants when I want to dine out as the layout isn't cookie cutter or generic. We started off with garlic bread with cheese, and it was served up on a high quality Italian bread with just the right amount of cheese and garlic accents, without being too greasy. For meals, we split an upside down grandma pizza and chicken parmigiana entree with penne vodka and side salad. The upside down grandma pizza was excellent when served piping hot, but we found that both the cheese and crust lost a bit of their pizzazz and zest within a few minutes, and agreed it didn't taste nearly as good cold. The tomato sauce on top was flavorful and distinct (in a good way). The chicken parmigiana entree and penne vodka were both solid recipes and of the high standard you'd expect at a decent central New Jersey Italian restaurant. The side garden salad was typically average. Overall, the food would rate in the 3.5-4 out of 5 range...just standard decent and hearty Italian fare that's reliable, but nothing groundbreaking with regards to recipes. The service was attentive and friendly, so happy to round up to an overall 4/5 rating. I hadn't been to Alfonso's in probably over 10 years, but having dined here multiple times now, I can vouch for it as a decent place for pizza and Italian comfort food in Somerville.

Great little trattoria. Y'all have a wonderful atmosphere, great front room staff and the kitchen makes wonderful dishes. Folks, you gotta get the calamari, healthy serving; the meatball sundae, a no-brainer; and lastly - spicy grandpa.Parking: Park in the garage just south of the restaurant and east of ShopRite.

The pizza was absolutely excellent. We got a eggplant parm large and it was phenomenal: I do have a tomato allergy and asked the waiter to sub it for a different sauce, she charged me even though previous times I’ve never been charged for it.The pesto pasta was alright; wouldn’t get it again. The penne vodka is always reliably good though. We also got the Mac and cheese, a bit too milk based in my opinion and lacking the creaminess of proper cheese. The wait was almost 30 mins on a Friday evening at 8 pm so would caution carefully. It’s gotten a lot busier than I remember.Vegetarian options: Veg appetizers could be improved

This is our go to place.. we really like the ambiance and vibes. Perfect Italian place to go with friends and family. Our server was good. They Have large variety of options for gluten free and their pizzas are best with larger portions. This time we ordered pasta too and it was delicious. Also the molten chocolate lava cake was delicious too.

Love this place. We would go here for lunch occasionally on Sunday afternoon, but we were crushed that they dropped the lunch menu on Sunday. Dropping 100 bucks for 3 ( big tip of course) is a lot, it was around 70 with the lunch menu.Prices are crazy because of the devalued dollar, so I get it. I'll go somewhere cheaper for lunch, sadly because it's a good location and we love the place.

The food is not consistent. One week things were seasoned properly and this week they were so salty it insulted your mouth. Salt is very bad for many people and if the food is good all that extra salt isn't necessary. I don't think we'll be going back especially since even the sautéed spinach was too salty. It's made with garlic so once again the salt was unnecessary.
