I dined at the Summit Diner this morning for breakfast. The gentleman that greeted us was extremely rude and responded with “good luck” when we asked about getting a table for 2. The space is tight when you’re waiting for a table so we made a concerted effort to stay out of the staff’s way as they’re frequently going back and forth. However the waitress was extremely rude when needing to ask us to move. Once we were seated and out of her way, she took our order and still had extremely poor customer service. Our food was average at best, as the home fries were bland and Taylor ham should have been cooked longer. Our waitress never once checked on us while we were dining and we had to flag her down when we needed straws. Regardless of the subpar dining experience we still left a generous tip on the table ($6 on a $27.80 bill), paid our bill at the cash register, and left the diner. We started walking down the street when a gentleman from the diner came outside and yelled to us in front of other people walking by that it’s only right to leave a tip when dining somewhere and that we should have done that. My friend and I were shocked and confused because we had just left $6 on the table even though we didn’t feel as though a tip that generous was earned. We told the gentleman that we did in fact leave the tip on the table and he rightfully apologized, however his actions were inexcusable. While there may be people that unfortunately do not tip (not something I would ever do), tip is at the diners’ discretion and you do not run out of the restaurant and yell to them down the street about it. Moreover if you’re going to do that you should be absolutely certain you are correct in what you’re saying. This experience was eye opening and we will not be dining at Summit Diner again due to this.

Great old diner.Be prepared to wait if you want to sit in one of the booths, or you might need to wait for a seat at the counter, particularly on a weekend.Simple menu here, all the basics. Be prepared to pull up the menu from your smart phone using their QR code, or just look at the menu above the grill.I think the best thing here are the pancakes ? and the egg sandwiches.Staff are super friendly and eager to please, ensure that you tip them well, they are always busy and don't have a lot of time to chit chat with guests since there is usually a wait for a seat.

It's a Jersey dinner, a real dinner smack in the middle of an up-scale town center, surrounded by expensive restaurant competition. Food was good. Service fine and best of all... low dinner prices.I'll be back...

No frills, throwback diner. Both in the ambience and the prices, which seem frozen in the early 2000s. Cash only, often with a line this is a local institution that's worth visiting if you enjoy crab benedict. Our little ones also like the French toast.

I’m always up for a trip to an old steel car diner. To find one in continuous operation since 1938 is rare. I’d heard lots of good things but never expected the experience to be so great. The service is friendly, and fast….my wife and l had our breakfast out in five minutes flat.I had some of the best pancakes and bacon l’ve had anywhere, and my wife’s corned beef hash was just silly good. True diner food, nothing fancy…just well executed basics. And the prices are more than reasonable. All around 10/10 experience. I can’t wait to go again! Thanks guys!

This is a typical Jersey dinner. This is it, right here in Summit, NJ . But bring cash. The folks only accept cash. No credit cards!

Small space, but friendly and somehow still comfortable. Sat in front of the grill so I got to have breakfast and a show! Really cool to watch.

If you have never been to the Summit Diner, consider yourself one of the lucky ones. It's not worth your time and effort. I total disappointment.
