My children were attending KG&J for a little over two months before services were terminated. In the termination email, we were asked not to return because we apparently jeopardized their “family like atmosphere and relationships.” We received this email over the weekend following a conversation my husband had with Kia; alerting her that he needed to take our son to urgent care due to him contracting hand, foot and mouth disease at her facility. Normally, when a child is contagious, a day care would send an alert to all parents and give them a heads up. Unfortunately, our “heads up” was our son having bumps and blisters all over his body. We discovered this shortly after picking him up. In Kia’s email she wished my son a speedy recovery….while severing our child care relationship. This was simply disingenuous. Her handling of this situation showed lack of care for our son, and I wouldn’t be surprised if other parents experience or have experienced the same. During the course of our children attending her home day care, we did not receive any communication alluding to any issues. So, as you can imagine; the termination of services left us completely blindsided. Having quality and affordable child care is such a rarity nowadays. However, we were initially under the impression that we found it at KG&J. Unfortunately, we quickly discovered we were terribly mistaken. Our view of in-home daycares has been forever stained by our experience here. Everyone has a right to run their business as they see fit, but there should be a certain level of respect and decency in which you handle certain situations. We were handled with total disregard of our childcare situation. For most people, receiving a surprise email that their day care services are being terminated could put their job in jeopardy. The most upsetting part of this all is the emotional stress that my child has incurred after having the relationship severed. He loved attending and asks every morning to go to Ms. Kia’s house. I can see that it breaks his little heart to know that he can’t return with no valid reason. Ultimately, the termination of services was best for both parties due to other red flags we observed during our time there. I hope that this candid review sheds some light on existing issues and incites a positive change at KG&J for the sake of the children who currently attend or will attend there in the future.
