Ambiance: small and intimate space. No frills. Street parking on small streets. Service: the whole process is slow. The cooking of the food aka grilling stuff the old school way over a coal grill, took a longgggg time that I got buzzed sipping on my hot sake. Order a shitload of food because you will be hungry waiting for the next round of food and it will take even longer to get more food once the place starts getting packed. Wait staff is very nice tho. Food: I have ZERO complaints about the food. Everything we ate was delicious. Who knew intestines and chicken skin could be so delicious???? Even the crispy chicken gizzards was so yum. The food is tapas style so it adds up and the bill can have a bit of a woah factor, especially when buzzed.

Upon entering, a reservation was requested despite the initially empty setting; however, it swiftly filled up, underscoring the importance of reservations. The lady host, though not overly welcoming, is understandable in a culturally rich and classic environment. The culinary offerings are superb, with particularly delightful hot sake. Another younger host proved notably pleasant. It's worth noting an odd policy against phones, though lacking corresponding signage; regardless, I proceeded with my conversation. While the venue could benefit from an exhaust system upgrade, as exiting leaves one smelling delicious, overall, it's an amazing place with truly excellent food.

The food taste really good. I would recommend to try Yakitori special chicken soft bone, tail, and neck. I removed two star because the waiter is so rude. He’s the only one impolite Japanese that I have ever met. Was trying to give less tips but the options starting from 18%. :(

The place is small, the seating tight, long wait times, not well ventilated and limited parking. It's all worth the experience. I have found some great and not so great izakaya, robata, and yakitori through my travels. They are far and few between. If you search for real japanese yakitori and robata in the NYC area, there are NOT a lot of choices. So when you discover this hidden gem in NJ, don't complain and enjoy your time at Yakitori 39. The food and service is out right one of the best and authentic in the country.

Authentic Japanese yakitori spot. Best agadashi tofu I've ever had, by FAR. Ask for wasabi on the side to go with your skewers!

Authentic and delicious yakitori (Japanese bbq), great variety of dishes. Favs were the pork belly and fried oysters. Fast and efficient service, great little place.

Cozy Japanese bbq spot. Everything was delicious, especially the yakatori skewers. Prices are reasonable and the Japanese beer, sake, and whiskey selection was great.

This was my second time at this small culinary GEM hidden next to another top spot peck peck. I saw this restaurant when I went to pick peck chicken. I was curious because every time I saw the place packed. First time had a large beef dish with some of the best shrimp I have ever had they were seasoned fried with the shell. This visit had the skewers one pork belly one chicken and one beef all off the blank blank blank hook. They were soooooooo good. The fried octopus with mayo omg omg. The ramen was so seasoned and spicy I thought I knew what real ramen tasted like. I WAS WRONG. This was the best dining experiences I have had I have a 4 but that was for the slow service. I'm going back to make sure they have that 5 this is overall one of the best restaurants in the tristate area. It's a big secret which needs to be shared.

Very cool to find a yakitori spot here in Bergen County. I tried various chicken skewers and the tonkotsu ramen. Everything was pretty decent, but not amazing. I thought the skewers weren’t grilled enough because I was hoping to get more crispy bits and charred flavor. Everything also tasted a bit under-salted, in my opinion. The Asahi on draft was lighter than I expected, though I can’t say if it was abnormally light because I don’t usually get it. (Another review said it tasted watery so I wanted to comment on that as well.) I would opt for a bottled beer next time, of which they have a nice selection. Overall, not a bad experience, but also not nearly an equal substitute for yakitori in the city.

One of my favorite places! Various menu choices, inexpensive small tapas, nice workers! I sometimes go there with my husband and we always order a lot. The flavor for each dish is just enough. Never disappointed. I think it’s the only Yakitori place in nj. Always packed so need to call and make a reservation early.

Food and the vibe is great, but the restaurant is usually very busy and hence slow service. And the place desperately needs better ventilation. It is so smokey that my eyes were hurting towards the end of the meal.

Yakitori 39 in Teaneck, NJ is a delightful dining experience that deserves a solid 4-star rating. The menu offers a diverse selection of Japanese cuisine that will tantalize your taste buds. The fried chicken liver, fried gizzard, and fried oyster appetizers are a must-try. Each bite is perfectly crispy on the outside, giving way to tender and flavorful insides. These dishes showcase the chef's expertise in frying to perfection. The yuzu beer is a refreshing and unique beverage choice, adding a citrusy twist to your dining experience. It's a fantastic pairing with the flavorful dishes on offer. For meat lovers, the slow cooked beef ribs are a highlight. Tender, succulent, and bursting with savory goodness, they are sure to satisfy your carnivorous cravings. The lobster special was also a welcome surprise. Save room for dessert because Yakitori 39 has some sweet surprises. The wine-soaked peaches with ice cream are a delightful combination of fruity and creamy, making for a memorable dessert experience. And don't forget the crème brûlée, a classic that's executed with finesse, offering that satisfying contrast between the caramelized sugar top and the smooth custard underneath. Overall, Yakitori 39 offers a memorable culinary journey with a range of delectable dishes and a cozy ambiance. It's a place where flavors shine, making it a great choice for a special night out or a celebration.

Delicious food that reminds me of Kyoto. Simple yet fresh and good yakitoris, just the way we prefer it. We'll definitely come back to try the sukiyaki during the winter time.
