I made a car reservation, and when I arrived, they said they had no cars available and didn’t help me at all. They allow you to make a reservation even though they don’t have any cars. There is absolutely no way to reach them in advance by phone to confirm, as they never answer. Renting from this branch would be the biggest mistake of your life.

Hertz - Rental - In Route 22, Union New Jersey
My experience with Hertz rental car was a positive experience. They treated me very well, they were very professional, the team was very humble. They did their job very well. They have new team and I dont have no complaints about them, and if I have had to rent again it would be with Hertz on Route 22. Hertz Thank you so much.

If you can get away from Hertz, give yourself a favor, run away. I got an reservation set up, all seemed fine, and when I got there (by Uber), they just have no cars. And what can you do? Call another Uber and leave because nobody cares - Suggestion: Avis Olympia Dr, Newark, NJ 07105 - For what I saw: Gas or Electric - Private to Rideshares - Really Nice Cars

I was rented a vehicle with old tires. A couple of hours into the roadtrip I could hear a strange sound coming from the vehicle. I couple of days later while driving back the entire tire collapsed almost killing me and my children on the road. I experienced difficulties trying to get another vehicle and on top of it all Hertz charged me for the tow. I usually rent with enterprise and only decided to go with hertz because of their affiliation with Marriott. It was a mistake. I’d rather go with enterprise where customer service matters more.

Valdine is extremely helpful and cleaned the car throughly. She's very respectful, helpful and friendly. Chris was the representative who assisted me with the rental. He is a patient, respectful and helpful young man. I came in with a host of questions like I always do and he was helpful in explaining all the details. I had a great experience here and I will be back.

Had to drop off my insurance replacement vehicle about half an hour before closing today (8/6/25) and the two guys working there were amazing! I was hesitant to rent from this location due to the poor reviews but I had the complete opposite experience. The same guy helped me out for when I picked up my car on Monday to when I dropped it off today and the other guy kindly gave me a ride to the auto body to pick up my person vehicle even though it was soon to closing time! Wish I could have asked for their names to give the proper recognition. -Alyssa Feliciano

My name is Cecelia Holloway and on 7/22/2025, my family and I had the misfortune of visiting the Hertz Car Rental in Union (Route 22). After a car accident, and traveling to two other car rental places, we ended up at this location. While getting the paperwork together, we asked if we could use the restroom, and we were told no, and were directed to a doctor’s office down the street. We then asked for the manager. After half an hour, and making two more requests, the manager came out. She also refused us access, stating that she did not have to let us use the restroom, and that we were free to complain. When the one person that did any work asked his coworker what kind of car should he give us, the coworker named Chris said “Give them anything.” At that point, they pulled out a car that was filthy inside and out. Needless to say, we refused to take it. Once new paperwork was printed out, the worker named Chris came outside with the paperwork, threw it into the vehicle, and said “When you call to complain, tell them my name is Chris.” He then turned around and ran back inside. Besides the one person that printed up the contract, and cleaned the vehicle EVERYONE else in this establishment was extremely unprofessional, as they sat there playing on their phones. That includes the manager and the employee named Chris. My recommendation to you is, if at all possible, avoid this location. As long as Hertz keeps giving generic responses to complaints for this location, and not holding these employees accountable, this behavior will continue. As a consumer, I do not have to spend my money there.

On July 22, 2025, due to a lack of availability of vehicles at another preferred car rental company, my family and I were directed to Hertz in Union NJ on Rt 22.
I have to mention the experience we encountered. I asked the staff where the restroom was located, only to be told that the restrooms are not provided for public use. We asked to speak to the manager on duty, after 3 request and 30mins, the young lady finally appeared, dressed very unprofessionally, we voiced our concerns and her reply was, her district manager as well as upper management stated that the location does not have to honor a restroom request, however, it was not in writing.
The next egregious act was the vehicle that was presented, it was beyond Filthy, there was no way anyone should’ve been offered a vehicle in that condition. We declined and requested a more sufficient car, the employee was beyond disrespectful, and absurd.
I’m positive that there are others who have had encounters at this location, we have to take time to voice our concerns, when we do not, there is no accountability for their actions to be addressed and handled properly.
It’s the public’s money that keeps these businesses thriving. Again, I would strongly suggest, that this location not be patronized.
The Corporate Office and district managers are to blame as well, for their lack of supervision.

Stay away from Hertz Rent-A-Car in Union, New Jersey. The staff is not only ignorant, but very unprofessional and disrespectful after three attempts to speak to a supervisor a young Lady (and I use that term loosely) comes out of the back dressed and acting as if she was working in a strip club and not a place of business. If this is what you can expect from your supervisor you can, you can only imagine what the staff will act like the Rent-A-Car that they presented was not only dirty the inside had stains on the seats and around the headliner if this was not the only place available to rent a car at the time, I would have walked out. Later I took that car to Hertz in Bartonville, Pennsylvania. This was a totally different experience, clean and professional unlike union New Jersey. Anyone who needs a car never , Ever, go to hertz and union New Jersey. 2 Hz management something needs to be done about your staff. When you go to Hertz customer service online even that is no help.

STAY AWAY FROM HERE!!! It is unfortunate you can’t give 0 stars. This place deserves nothing. I guess the $60 “rental car” should have been the first red flag in the middle of summer with most other places in the area sold out. Then, if I would have read the reviews…I really would have gained some knowledge about how this place is run, that was a huge mistake on my part.
I arrived at this location at 8:05am. I had a reservation for 8am. I would have been LUCKY to receive my vehicle by 10am if I would have stayed. However, I could not. I could not stay and have my reservation delayed not by 1 hour but by two hours at the very least. There were 6 people ahead of me when I arrived at 8:05. The first couple seemed to be having many difficulties, they drove away around 8:35. The gentleman was working alone and told me everyone else called out this morning, he was not getting any help any time soon an no co workers scheduled to join him. The second customer gets to the desk and they had been given a Tesla, where their tire blew, and the car had been towed and this SOLE worker was now on a wild goose chase for this vehicle. That’s as far as I got in their debacle because by this time it was almost 8:45 and I had to be some where at 11am 2 hours away and my cushion for time was rapidly decreasing. So after Ubering to this location, a 40 minute wait and 5 people still ahead of me I had to walk out, incurring charges of yet another Uber to get back home. Another lady also, I believe chose to leave, I saw her get in a car and leave. I think it is extremely unreasonable to ask customers to wait hours past their booking time. It is absurd to have one worker in ANY establishment. Infuriating that there could be NO solution to this issue. Beyond unacceptable to have people waiting this long and be stressed about missing commitments. I will never rent from this location again and Hertz will never be my first choice again if this isn’t made right. I hope people take time to read the reviews of this location and be warned about what kind of service you will receive here. DON’T DO IT no matter how desperate you are!!!!

This location is very far from airport. Lift charged me $26 to get here. also never rent a electric car. It took me two hours to find a charging station and two hours to charge my car. 🤮
