Bunch of crooks .. They will charge you for a pack of cigarettes, even when you don’t buy one. And then, when you go back into the store to get your money back, they act like YOU’RE The liar. They’re a bunch of crooks beware.

Great Salvadoran cuisine available in Waldwick! It seems that there is little awareness on this gem. I was driving by and noticed a sign for 'pupusas' and had to stop by. I ordered two pork rinds and cheese and one beans & cheese. I also revived the sauce and slaw on the side. For $7.50 total, you will be full. This establishment is a restaurant and convenience store - one thing I would change is remove the adult contraceptive packages from the register area... I mean I suppose someone may find it convenient to purchase condoms and pupusas at once , but I find it off.

It was a very odd experience trying this place out and if you're not fluent in Spanish you'll likely have a similar experience. I had to squeeze by a few guys hanging out on the steps outside the place and inside there was just one lady who didn't speak any English. Aside from a few shelves of Latin grocery items there was an area that must occasionally hold hot food items to-go. I came around 3pm on a weekday and it was completely empty. Perhaps it's full earlier in the afternoon. Unfortunately there was no menus or prices listed anywhere so I just asked for the one thing listed on their banner outside: pupusas (a filled and grilled cornmeal cake from El Salvador/Honduras). The lady asked: "meata?", assuming she was asking if I wanted a meat filling and not knowing the other options, I agreed to 2 "meata pupusas". She immediately got to work making them from scratch. Not seeing any credit card machine or ATM I assumed it was cash only and left to grab some cash. By the time I came back there were two piping hot meat pupusas ready for me with along with a baggie of tomato sauce and a baggie of some kind of cole slaw. By the register she had a basket full of slices of what I could only assume was bread pudding. I got a slice and it was quite good. The two pupusas and bread pudding only came up to $6.50. I found the pupusas slightly too oily and salty but still thought they had a great flavor. You can't beat the freshness, authenticity, and value of what she's making here. It's one of the tastiest and most affordable things you can grab in Waldwick, that's for sure. I'd love to see what else they serve here, hopefully they eventually come up with some sort of menu where I could at least point to what I'd like to try.
