This place is awesome! Jackie, the manager, is so sweet and helpful! I drive a tractor trailer and was bobtailing and Jackie showed me where I could park it. I hadn’t gotten a load by the time we checked out and she let us stay parked here for a few extra hours at no charge. The rooms are so cute and whoever designed them did a great job~ they are all different and it’s lovely to see the creativity. Our room reminded me of a tiny house minus a kitchen. Also they are dog friendly and our Doberman and English Setter had a great stay too ✨ Thank you Jackie! We will be sure to stay here again! ✨

Very nice! From the outside, you'd never guess what a gem the Sussex Motel is but my room was primo. The only downsides were that it was pretty noisy. I didn't get much sleep for all the banging doors and parking lot conversation all night long and my bed had a bit of a sinkhole in the middle, but the room was otherwise quite comfortable and I'm mad impressed by the quality of what is clearly a very recent renovation. My room had very nice granite & tile everywhere and an in-room fireplace was certainly unexpected! Even the art on the walls well-chosen. Would stay again; just need to bring my brown-noise machine.

The room was very clean, I was surprised at how amazing it looked. The only thing I didn't like was the bed ( it was super hard), but everything else was amazing. I loved how quickly it got warm inside the room.

I thought the rooms were very cute and clean. Lots of food and stores close by. Great price.

I don’t normally write reviews, I understand it's a motel and you get what you pay for BUT... the room was horrific. No one slept because of flies, gnats and bugs in the bed which was also a brick (my daughter asked if we could sleep in the car instead). The room smelled funky and the pictures don’t actually equate to the room. The walls are thin and you can hear a normal volume conversation for the other room. The couches are old but have covers on them and are very worn. Also, the TV didn't work. We have stayed at motels in the past which we clean and updated but this motel was sketchy, not necessarily clean and the beds, walls and TV didn’t help (ill ignore the bug situation because of the season)…. Sorry but 2 thumbs down and i don’t recommend if you are traveling with your kids (she is about to be 14)Food & drinks: There were restaurants and places to eat near by since we needed a quick breakfast spot before games. But nothing available on the property.

What a gem! Great spot to stay in Sussex. The guy checking me in was so friendly and helpful. It was safe, close to food and other necessities. They had plenty of amenities to make the stay wonderful. The room was quiet and the A/C and heat worked great! The room was updated too. I would love to come and stay again next time I'm in town! Thank you Sussex Motel!

I agree with all the positive reviews of this Diamond in the rough motel. A Clean and comfortable room and beds was a plus. Everything seemed newly renovated with an excellent a/c and heat unit. We had a range/sink/fridge and overhead range hood fan but there were no utensils or pots for cooking. The fridge did not work but there was an excellent stainless steel refrigerator additionally. A small microwave but no coffee maker ( Not really a problem since Dunkin Donuts and other places are nearby to get coffee and food. ) We walked across the short lawn to the adjacent shopping center for food. Minuses would include the abandoned pool which is fenced in and unusable. Also the motel sign is not lit up at night giving an appearance of a dive motel but the interiors are impressively clean and well decorated. The beds were very comfortable. Lighting was a little too bright with numerous lamps with super bright bulbs. No bars to hold onto in the tub that was a little slippery was a slight issue for myself maybe not others. The tub enclosure was very clean as was the bedding and towels. We would not hesitate staying again. The manager was a pleasure to be greeted by upon arrival. Can’t complain about the prices either.

This place was AMAZING!!! Do not let the outside appearance turn you away. Matthew the manager was on point with everything from making sure I had all I needed to literally picking up hs guitar & playing around the fire pit. I had the MOST AMAZING BED (RM7)- MET THE NICEST PEOPLE AT THIS MOTEL. I travel a lot & stayed in many upscale hotels- by far Sussex Motel had above & beyond my expectations & was one of the cleanest & attentive above them. I am looking forward to staying again asap! Thanks Matthew for everything!

Was a comfortable stay while on the road. The rooms were very nice, seemed to be freshly painted with little decor here and there. Bathroom was slightly outdated, but had a full bathtub and shower. The gentleman in the office was very kind and had plenty of stories to tell us! All in all, a good experience. We plan to stay again someday!Nearby activities: Within 20 min of the Appalachian Trail, Veterans Monument, and High Point.

I needed a place to stay while looking for reasonable places to rent and I have a dog. This is a hidden gem.Dont be put off by the exteriors. My side of the building was smoke free although the other side were a lot of smokers outside and there are receptacles. My room was beautifully decorated, new bed, great water pressure for shower, microwave, mini fridge large screen TV.Plenty of places to walk your dog as well as groceries, deli, pizza japanese restaurant as well as others minutes away.Mostly friendly staff.Matt was excellent at making you feel like you were home.Check in seamless.Ended up staying longer and Matthew having been a marine, was an A plus coming from a military family ,Mine being Navy and being born on a base..There was other military staying here too veterans with their dogs. There is outdoor seating on the lawn which backs up to a forest reserve, and a fire pit to enjoy.I don't know if they sell wood bundles for 5$ like they do upstate.Matt seemed to handle pretty much everything made you feel comfortable and safe.We had a power outage during a storm and he was right on it.Need towels, toilet paper on it.And Ross who is the other employee who is friendly and quirky but does a good job too..Ask for Matt if you come here he is definatnately the face of the place.Hope you have a good stay.I did so did my dog.I would come back.

Doesn't look like much from the outside but I was just looking for a place to fall asleep for the night. The manager, was a great guy and Hoot to talk with. Rooms had been recently remodeled. The room I stayed and was actually very chic and modern, especially for a country motel. Very clean. Would go back in a

Don’t let the outside appearance deter you from reserving this motel. The reviews were good so we gave it a try because we needed an AFFORDABLE hotel fairly close to Orange Co. Fairgrounds Speedway. They are renovating from the inside out and the room was clean and cozy! The bed was comfortable and the service was terrific! Definitely recommend if you can’t or not willing to pay $300 + for a room at a hotel chain.

I had been hiking the Appalachian trail and needed a place to stay out of the thunderstorms for a night. The manager was incredibly kind and helpful. The beds were clean and comfortable and the rooms provided every service I needed: microwave, fridge, shower, and a TV. I wish I had a chance to use the fire pit area but the rain wouldn't allow it. A very pleasant experience and if I catch myself in the area again I know where I can stay!

If I was welcomed at every motel the way I was welcomed by Matt the motel manager, I would never leave. We had a nice campfire in the backyard - really chill & peaceful. The room had a conveniently large TV. It was an awesome place to stay at. Also played guitar with Matt - good vibes :)
