For over 20 years, Albert Haniken was the jeweler that we purchased gold and diamond jewelry from. We marked anniversaries, birthdays, weddings, children’s religious and academic milestones, baby and bridal showers for my immediate family, extended family, and referred my friends and their families to him.
I brought my Mothers pristine, valuable, and irreplaceable earrings to do a simple clasp replacement. It was my Mothers wish to gift them to my daughter. When I picked them up, I was shocked and appalled to see that there was a large gemstone COMPLETELY MISSING. The structure of the other earring was severely compromised by a broken prong which made all of the gems loose. There was no effort by Albert Haniken to locate the missing gemstone or to correct this heartbreak. My Mothers jewelry was destroyed, and that dream was crushed.
It was brought to my attention that Haniken Jewelers is on the NJ.gov website for 15 civil violations by the Office of Attorney General, Consumer Affairs Division.
Haniken Jewelers: This store allegedly failed to keep its scale in plain view of the seller, failed to use a scale that had been secured with a lead and wire seal to prevent tampering with the scale device; and failed to post the prices offered for precious metals. The store also on at least one occasion allegedly failed to maintain a serialized receipt with required information such as the weights, fineness, and/or types of precious metals purchased; and/or the seller’s name, address, signature, and/or proof of identification; and/or the buyer’s name and address; and/or the date of the transaction. Weights and Measures officers also confiscated this store’s scale because it was of a type not approved for the purchasing of jewelry. This store is charged with 15 civil violations.
*This is very upsetting on many levels, for a long term business relationship that was trusted.
