“Nick at J&M is incredible, and it’s an understatement to say I shop here because of him. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of plants, including native plants, and he can answer even the most nuanced and complex questions with ease. Though it’s tempting to believe our computers can do all our landscape architecture for us, I can affirm that ChatGPT doesn’t know what Nick knows. He can tell me exactly what is going on with various growers, issues that have strained production, patterns of larger companies, when plants are expected to restock, etc. His deep industry relationships are an invaluable tool for understanding how and when I can landscape my property. Speaking of relationships, he is easy to speak and work with because he is kind-hearted, nonjudgmental and low ego. Whether you are an expert gardener or completely new to it and anxiously arriving feeling clueless, he will never make you feel stupid, and I can guarantee he will give you sage advice. When Fred Rogers said look for the helpers, he was talking about Nick. There just aren’t enough people like him in the world, and I feel so lucky that we have him right here in Madison.”

I was there to get herbs and they had a nice variety of both standard and organic, with one exception- I didn’t find any organic basil, which was disappointing. My wife asked inside and was told it was on the back patio but we searched everywhere and only found the standard. Maybe it was because we were there midweek but there was no real help around. The older lady inside at the register was nice enough. I was also hoping that maybe they grew and sold fresh fruit and vegetables but alas, they do not. Also, if you read past mentions of a petting zoo or miniature donkeys, they no longer have any animals. Overall, they have a good variety and were pretty well organized and clean.”

“Typical Home Depot. For some reason that I do not understand, every Home Depot carries a different style of kitchen cabinets. It's Hit or Miss no matter which one you go to. The staff was extremely helpful. However, they really need to keep up with their stock as far as kitchen cabinets. Also, for some reason their bathroom sinks that have a backsplash is separate from the entire sink. In other words, the sinks with a backsplash have a separate slab that you have to install. Which quite frankly I don't understand. I thought this was Home Depot and not a Kia where I have to assemble a bathroom sink.”
