“I've been coming here for inspection and maintenance for years. This is definitely one of the best shops around. It's almost always pretty busy so it's best to call ahead to schedule appointment. There's no dedicated parking lot (like most shops in Philly), but there's plenty of street parking nearby when dropping off the vehicle. They always explain if there's any fixes needed and get your approval before doing any work. They never try to push any unnecessary services or charge any surprise fees. A++”
“A while back, I was just looking for someone to do my daughter's oil change and I discovered Lou's Automotive Center as recommended through local FB groups.
They were great so I visited them again for two issues with my car. My car dealership quoted me almost $2000 to change my LED headlamp and I was devastated by the cost. Then I had an exhaust leak so I prepared for the worst.
I went to Lou's-lo and behold, it was not a $2000 replacement at all! Just a lightbulb replacement that was EXPONENTIALLY less money.
And then, instead of just repairing the exhaust leak (because I would have been none the wiser), they informed me there was an open recall and if I took it back to the dealer, I would likely get the repair for free-and I did!
So, they have a client for life now!”

“BEST SERVICE EVER!!! I’m 5 months pregnant and have 2 toddlers at home. So when my car battery stopped working this morning it was the last thing I needed to happen. I called around to different shops early in the morning and came across this one. The man who answered the phone was eager to help and told me I can come by right away. Mind you this was like 8 am. I dropped off my car and was told they will look at it today. Later in the day, not only did they figure out the problem, but they got me a new battery and put it in!!! So before they closed my issue was not only diagnosed but also fixed at an extremely good price!!! They went above and beyond what I could’ve asked for and made it possible to me to be able to drive my kids to daycare tomorrow and get to my doctor’s appointment. I will definitely be back anytime anything is wrong with my car and i recommend this shop to anyone needing help with their car!!! Thank you so much!!!”

“I had my transmission blow out on my way to work one morning and once my insurance company finally towed it to West Deptford (11 hrs later, after they’d closed 😒) I got a call the next morning that they had identified the issue, and provided me a quote for the repair. The price was fair and in line with the market cost for the job. I was given an accurate timeline for the repair and the staff was friendly and attentive whenever I called to check in. I needed a full transmission rebuild, and they explained the root cause of the failure, why it needed a replacement and did not try to upsell me on anything other that what I needed to get driving again.
The team was so kind as to pick me up from a rental car agency the day my vehicle was fixed because I wasn’t able to get another ride to the shop.
Everyone I spoke to was kind, patient and honest. They understand that auto repair is something that no one plans for and no one is happy about, and displayed a great commitment to the craft and professionalism.”

“This was my first time going to Matthey Automotive. I would normally take my car to a mechanic in Westmont but they have a new front office coordinator and I have been considering going to another mechanic. My parents recommended Matthey. Overall, it was a good experience. My car was ready yesterday and it seems to be running well. The price was within $100 of the estimate I got from the other mechanic. The front office coordinator I met is Carl. He seems like a nice guy and I especially liked his bakery recommendation!
I don’t think I will bring my car back to the Westmont mechanic.

HeHe diagnosed got back with us and stategized a plan for us. Our experience was 5 star (the best). Steve is very good with his mechanical career at what he does and with people. I even shared coffee with him
After he serviced our transmission, he told us to drive it around for a while and then report back to him. At this point Feb 23 2026 the car runs perfectly. They were quick and efficient, went above and beyond with doing additional minor work like replacing a rear light bulb and my back wiper blade. “My Nissan Rogue's transmission failed after 127,000 miles. Towed car to Cottman Transmission and was greeted by a friendly staff. My questions were answered honestly and within a few hours I was given the news no owner wants - costs for a rebuilt transmission. After three days my car was ready, and I actually paid the amount I was told over the phone (no added fees - imagine that - lol). Although I have just gotten the car back so I don't have any long term experience with the rebuilt transmission but everything is good after 30 or so miles. I appreciate the honest answers I received from the owner. I will recommend them to anyone who needs transmission work.”
