Big Jim Farms is a beautiful 9-acre farm in Albuquerque offering a 'New Mexican U-Pick Experience.' Visitors can pick and roast their own flavorful green and red chile, as well as sunflowers, pumpkins, corn, and other veggies when in season. It is a great little gem and an awesome way to spend a couple hours outdoors, with wonderful photo ops and a nice vibe overall. The farm is free to enter; you only pay for what you pick. It is a wonderful place for families, with farm animals, kids play areas, and field trips where visitors can learn, walk through sunflower fields, and learn activities like making a composting bin. They also offer classes, like a chile ristra class that many find well worth it. The farm sells honey and flowers at their stand. Most reviews describe a great experience with nice, polite, and hardworking staff, though a couple mention instances where staff seemed rude or a manager was seen barking orders. Some feel items can be pricey. Despite these occasional criticisms, many call it an amazing farm and continue to go back, hoping the overall friendly legacy continues.
We went for a field trip and we learned a lot. We were able to walk through the sunflower field and learned how to make a composting bin. We even got to pick a wonderful pumpkin after.
