I adopted both Ham and Luna (formerly Marci) from the Animal Welfare Department within a few months of each other and absolutely adore them. Staff were very kind and helpful. The process was smooth and quick. I went in to meet with both of them, and went right home with them. Staff made sure to explain everything about owning a puppy to make sure Ham was going to the right home. Volunteers were very helpful in making sure I had play time with Luna before choosing her. Folks, if you are looking for a pet, please consider adopting. Those pets need homes and will absolutely love you for providing them with it.

As far as the public facing side, great. The staff were very helpful with our having to bring in a stray momma cat and two of her kittens. Best news is they all got adopted in eight days.

The experience was pretty good there was supposed to be an appointment set but because they weren't too busy they were able to help us. I was even able to score some cat food wet and dry. When they made me aware it was a service they offered for low-income families

The shelter itself is ok considering animals are in cages. The biggest issue they have is the elderly woman who works at the front desk. She is REALLY slow and frankly not very pleasant either. Can you PLEASE hire someone else so we don't have to sit there for an hour (and we were the only ones there besides the woman that she was already assisting!)Also, I'm on oxygen and had just had surgery (was in a sling) and NOBODY seemed to know how things operate over there! We were told to go back to the front office to inquire about a cat I was interested in. We went, the elderly lady knew nothing about it and sent us back to kennels again.I ended up making 4 separate trips trying to get information on a cat. That's 3 trips too many!! And then, to have to sit there for an actual hour JUST to ask a question?SERIOUSLY!! HIRE SOMEONE ELSE WHO CAN DO THE DAMN JOB!!AND TRAIN YOUR STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS BETTER!NOBODY KNEW WHAT THE HELL THEY WERE DOING!!There was one woman who sat behind the window who was pleasant but she spent quite a long time chit chatting with someone while we sat there ....... waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting!!!I'm irritated just writing this!HIRE SOME DAMN PEOPLE WHO CAN DO THEIR JOBS!!!!

I visited a few months ago and saw two dogs. I didn't adopt, but they were helpful and honest. The cairn terrier I was so excited to see had been returned for biting someone and was not nice. I got to see the pug mix, it was extremely anxious. The visit was nice. There wwre adorable Australian shepherd puppies playing in the lobby.

Called to report my neighbor as he has OVER 15 cats locked in a room and they’re just multiplying and being neglected. They aren’t being fed not cared for. This person neglects himself as well. I requested an update from 311 3 times and they never reached out. Months later, yes …3 months later… this is still an issue. Our hallways reek of urine and feces. They haven’t done anything about it nor returned my call.

We found the process to be quite thorough and were able to find a cat who had the best chance of a good fit in our family.Bruce is a great boy, super social - he made brothers with our dog in less than 24 hours and it was only another day before he was relaxing belly up in the living room with the entire family. Thanks for everything you all do.

This is a wonderful place if you are a Bernallio resident but unfortunately they no longer service the East Mountains. So I was disappointed with that aspect only.

I have been trapping stray cats for years. I bring the cat in no problem. Today I brought a stray cat in and was told by the supervisor I needed a appointment. Sometimes it takes days to get a appointment. To leave the cat in that small cage for days without food and water is bad. Usually the staff is great but after arguing with the supervisor today I decided I'm not trapping anymore. Unfortunately the City is making it very difficult to help control the stray and feral cat population.

I showed up at7:30 a.m and took my 14 year old deceased kitty in and they accepted her without any questions. I filled out the paperwork and left. Thank you for getting me through this rough time.

"They aren't too busy to care." My first instinct on participating in gov. endorsed services to tend to my puppy Hesh was cautious. Overworked with little resources to share was my judgement. This is far from the truth.I give my greatest thanks and respect to those at the eastside location on Lomas, for creating such an array of services and opportunities to encourage me to encourage my dog to thrive with a full well balanced life. They offer shot clinics, social and behavioral classes, food and pet necessities and help when you are willing to ask.I was. Beyond my wits understanding and ready to give up with my needy pet. It broke my heart but i walked away. From the man in admissions who helped me hysterical to let go to Julie and Nicole who not just let me reclaim him hours later; they took cautious steps to ensure Hesh wasn't just going back to what he left behind.Everybody cared. Not just for my puppy, not just for the moment. They cared for us both and the situation.Give if you can give or help with your love and time. Don't your pets do the same for us

Extremely disappointed.I found 2 dogs wondering the street so I took them in and the man that was at the frount desk was rude I told him that I found the two dogs on the street and his response was "we are asking people to not pick up dogs on the street" and I then said "would you like for the dogs to get hit by a car" and his response was "yes" then after arguing with him for 10 minutes he finally took the dogs and continued to be rude.
