Love Duke City Volleyball!

I personally just finished up coaching at Duke City Volleyball Academy and I have had an amazing coaching experience. If I had to sum up this review it would be that DCVA is all about the players. At DCVA you have a great combination of coaches, directors and other personal who truly care about the betterment of their players, on and off the court. Their facility is top notch and is the best volleyball facility in all of New Mexico in my opinion. During my first year coaching with DCVA I didn’t know what to expect. I was delightfully surprised to be accepted almost as a family member by the other coaches and directing staff. If you are looking for a club that places players first, look no further.

Vb in the q isn't worthy to merge w a team like duke city. Everyone knows ( Q ) they are substandard. How does a national team have 3 players who have never played volleyball before??? Thats cruel to the new players and to those who are playing competitively. We needed a break from ARVC but what a joke. They drop down in divisions so they can win. Whoopty freaking do...14 years olds win 11's, 12's. That doesnt make players better. Parents know savvy didn't know, only saw that we were winning. Sad. I'll tell you who got a good deal: the player who never played vb or didnt deserve to be on a national team... why? Because the got to play w the only 3 national quality players on the team ghat were dooped into thinking they joining duke city but got compromised Q. Joe- you did nothing! You tricked us and never remedied the situation. We trusted you. I beg parents who are on the fence to reconsider. Private lessons w Hung saved us from the destruction the Q did. I have no idea why a reputable club like duke city is merging, which I hear may NOT happen.

I walked in with a clear mind ready for an amazing season. I went into tryouts it was confusing because I was there for DCVA but volleyball in Q conned is into joined their team. I made National One for both teams. I was confused at the time and I was talking to someone that said that her daughter was the setter for volleyball in Q and would make sure to set me and have a good relationship. We ended up choosing volleyball in Q. My coach was Michelle Skinner and she promised me that she could also help me with setting, improving my hitting, and improving my serve and jump serve. First of all, whatever I had before that team is gone because i did not learn one single skill. On that team were BRAND NEW Players on a NATIONAL team. End of season and the libero wasn't taught how to dive, and two of the hitters still couldn't correctly do their approach. That's not a national team. Mid season, setter wouldn't set me. Not once in entire tournaments. Nobody else would call the ball but me so no excuse of not knowing where your middle hitter is. Regardless, the coach saw what was going on and did nothing to fix the issue. That's not what being being a coach is about. She did NOT have the tactical skills of being a national coach. The coach wanted to vote who was the "nicest" player as MVP, that's not what an mvp is. I almost did not make JV for high school because of this team, if it wasn't for getting private lessons with another coach. The setter split the team into cliques. I never hated her or said anything to her that was intended to harm or hurt her, but as volleyball players, we should be able to put our feelings aside and play ball. I regret not going for the other teams I had made instead of this one, there is nothing more defeating and disappointing than playing in a tournament and a player intentionally not setting me to prove a childish point. The coach never did anything and it was pretty obvious. So I would simply reconsider your options.

The benefit doesn't match the cost. We have been part of 3 different clubs in Albuquerque and none of them are perfect. However this club is the worst ran and by far the least organized of the 3. Not to mention the most expensive. The club directors do not hold anybody accountable in their organization and do not return phone calls or address concerns. They don't abide by the Sun city volleyball region rules and create a hostile environment that isn't beneficial to the kids or the parents. They have a lot to learn in how to treat people and I will not give them one more dollar of my business. We were going to skip this season and focus on proper athletic conditioning, injury prevention , nutrition and character building because you will get zero of this at Duke City . We were persuaded with empty promises to join the team this year and the coach didn't hold true to his promises. They will tell you what you want to hear until they get what they want and then it will revert back to business as usual. Don't trust them. Not only that but they pulled two of our better players from the team to fill an older team that didn't have enough athletes. In another example the team mom was able to alienate my family and exclude us from all group messages. We were always in the dark and when traveling to different cities it makes it very hard to navigate activities. This made the season very i enjoyable. The numerous requests for the club to step in went unanswered and it caused a divisive atmosphere for the entire season. The coach could not even get the team to do a proper huddle let alone develop the team to its potential. This is a business and not a nonprofit. They could care less about the development of the girls as players and people and just want to make sure the teams are filled and the bills are paid. I would not recommend this club for numerous reasons . Do not take anything they say for granted as they will change their story when it is convenient for them to do so. There are definitely clicks and they do not treat people the right way. Sportsmanship is the very least you expect from any sports or athletic organization and they can't even deliver on that. This club is not well ran and you pay a lot of money for very little results. My advice is take your money somewhere else.
