Living in Santa Fe, I performed a search to find a Transmission Rebuild/ Repair shop that would do Quality Work. Having already used and been disappointed with shops in Santa Fe I found and called Matsco Transmission in ABQ, talked with Jerry - owner. Told him I had a C4 transmission that needed to be rebuilt. Jerry assured me that he did quality work and that he could do the job. So, based on what Jerry said I decided to trust him and I took my car. While he had the car he called to say he was having a hard time finding a neutral safety switch and that the heater was leaking so he bypassed the heater hose. I thought this was strange because I had replaced the heater core myself earlier and knew it was not leaking. After the work was done and I was driving the car and noticed the transmission was not performing as it should, I called Jerry to tell him the situation he told me the transmission had to be shifted manually for a while so that new components could get used. Two years later the transmission makes a scraping sound when accelerating under pressure and it vibrates randomly when either accelerating or when throttle is released. I feel I was misled and ripped off because now I have to have the transmission corrected somehow, probably rebuilt again. One word sums up this owner and shop GRAUNCHER! - Clumsy, incompetent mechanic.Service: Transmission

My mother who is 58 years old who just beat cancer, needed work done on her 2003 Ford Explorer. My mother litterally emptied her savings account and my siblings and I pitched to help with the cost. After going multiple times due to him not being able to get it straighten it in the first place, Jerry miller said he finally got the transmission work done which he said fixed the car. It ended up costing us $4200 to "fix" it, all to find out by another mechanic shop, that the engine needed a rebuild and that all the fluids were burned, thanks Jerry! You really helped put my mother through stress and hardship! (If I was looking to get work done, this place should be your LAST AND I MEAN LAST RESORT.) They litterally knew my mothers situation and preyed on her for their profit and money. I will for ever pass on the bad word about this business, thanks for serving our elderly!!

I have been doing business with Jerry at Matsco for 41 years. He has rebuilt and sold 16 transmissions to me. They know what they are doing and have provided wonderful customer service over the years. Easily the only transmission tech I trust in Albuquerque.

Brought my Truck to Jerry based on a referral. My truck was having problems shifting into 3rd gear so needed a professional opinion. Jerry definitely knows his stuff and will tell you what you need, even when you don't want to hear it...like “you need a transmission rebuiltâ€. In addition, they found broken motor mounts that needed to be replaced, which they were able to take care of(thanks for catching this) two birds one stone. Long story short my truck is running great and bringing it in for it's 1st 6K mile transmission service.

My advice is to avoid this transmission shop. When my wife and I brought in my car to get an evaluation and estimate on repairing transmission. When we finally heard from the repair shop owner after several days we were given a price that was far beyond estimates that I received elsewhere. I decided to have the car towed elsewhere it took more than a week to have the car made available to be towed - and then I was given only a 15 minute window of time to have this done! Luckily there was someone available to do this service at this time. Also, when I got there to pay the invoice for the estimate, the repair shop owner insisted on cash payment and refused to take payment by card - he did not tell until I got there that he wanted cash only for the 'service' (even though the store signage and invoice copy said that debit/credit card payments were accepted; he also did not tell during our phone conversation prior to getting the car back. This created additional headache and stress as I had to hurry to get back to meet the tow-truck driver in time. Throughout the whole ordeal the owner of the shop did not answer my calls, nor did he did keep appointments we had arranged, except at the very end when I was finally able get my car towed away.

I have worked with Matsco for about 2 years on my auto repairs. Jerry is a very busy man and very direct. Reading some of the comments, I'm sure some people don't like to hear what he has to say and his "down to business" approach...something I prefer to deal with. He's not the cheapest in town but fair priced, and all the work that's been completed for me has been satisfactory.

Jerry Miller is a liar and a horrible person to deal with. I originally went in for a band aid fix that was to cost $300 and it was to come with a 6 month 6000 mile warranty. As time went on and the price grew to $1500 I was eventually neck deep in a complete transmission rebuild. Jerry informed me that a complete rebuild would have a 3 year some odd mile warranty. We agreed on $1500 for the rebuild and when I finally got the call that the work was done Jerry gave me a total for $2146. I disputed that and eventually got my truck back for the $1500 that he originally quoted me for the complete rebuild. When, I went to pick the truck up I was already so mad that I didn’t notice that he had left the 6 month 6000 mile warranty (for the original band aid fix that we discussed before the complete rebuild came into play) on the paperwork . Now less than a year later my truck is leaking fluid and when I approached Jerry for the repair he was very rude and demanded more money for a job that should have had a 3 year some odd mile warranty. Jerry proceeded to call me a liar and walked off in the most childish of manners (not even willing to hear my side of things and stated I’m not going to argue with you when there absolutely no arguing taking place). Jerry is the rudest, greediest, person I’ve ever done business with, and I’d highly recommend that everyone else take their business elsewhere. He had my truck for months, the price change numerous times, he did in fact lose my paper work, and used my copy to make his own copy right before trying to charge me to fix the problems I paid him to fix the first time. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PITIFUL EXCUSE FOR A SUPPOSED UPSTANDING BUSINESS OWNER TO ANYONE!!! Jerry Miller is a liar that doesn’t stand behind his word instead he tries to hide behind faulty paperwork and when that’s not good enough for his consumers he runs away like the weasel he is. Also, he completely broke my exhaust which I was forced to pay out of pocket myself. I don’t even think he deserves the one star he’s getting from me (he is only getting one star because that is the only way I can post this warning to all the other hard working trusting people that may cross paths with this snake).

This place quoted a price that was competitive with the dealer, but then raised the price to include a "transmission cooler". The owner said it was necessary or he wouldn't warranty the transmission. Also, he required regular transmission service to be performed by him to maintain the warranty. I found out later that he subcontracted the transmission work to another shop in town, so technically it wasn't even replaced at Matsco. In all, almost $7k for a transmission that was originally quoted at $4k. I had to pay as I needed the vehicle.
