We have tried many Inns in Albuquerque and this one was a pleasant surprise. It is very reasonable, close to great eateries such as the famous Sadies and Frontier. The room was spacious, very clean, great king mattress, very clean linens, big bathroom, nicely decorated, charming room accents, well maintained, fenced secured lot. The check in staff was very friendly, helpful in advising us what local places to eat, Free KCup coffee in the morning. Next door to Denny's for breakfast. Downside, you can hear the people walking on the floor above but typical of 2 story motel. We will definitely choose the San Mateo Inn again.Rooms: Spacious, very clean, cute, very clean linens, great mattress, newly rennovated. No issues with hot water as others complained about.Safety: Completely fenced in parking lot.Food & drinks: KCup coffee available in chevk-in lobbyNoteworthy details: Two nice Lindt chocolates on the bed, soft red accent pillow on the bed, very vcean floor very large bathroom.

I'm giving this place 4.5. The Inn is an old Motor Lodge/Motel that they have painstakingly renovated and the rooms are lovely.I was concerned when I first pulled in, but I was only staying one night. I had a room in the back, away from the street noise and my room was immaculately clean. DID I SAY IMMACULATELY CLEAN? It was incredible. Bravo to housekeeping. The ladies at the front desk were lovely. The room was terrific. No carpeting, thank God, and a lovely wood laminate floor. The bed was extremely comfortable and the size of the room was large. Plenty of hot water. You can tell they are really trying to meet their clients needs. There was a welcome note and chocolates on the bed when I arrived. Plenty of clean fluffy towels with soaps and shampoo,My only criticism is only 2 out of the 5 lamps in the room worked and the dead bolt on the door was broken. Fresh Kurig coffee in the lobby, No breakfasts, but there is a Denny's across the street.I'm a big guy that can take care of myself. I would definitely stay here again for a single nights stay, not long term. And, I don't think I could recommend this place to women traveling by themselves. The pictures are accurate. What they don't show you is that there is a security fence that surrounds the building,

We had a rough experience at the San Mateo inn…. Beware that the pictures on their website are VERY misleading. I would NOT recommend to family or friends, especially if traveling solo or with children. Upon arrival, we got to our assigned room and it was dirty…./ honestly disgusting. We called down to the front desk and they moved us to another room. I understand that mistakes can happen and don’t want to be negative, but want others to be aware when spending money on a hotel.Location is sketchy. Lots of homeless people around, felt unsafe in parking lot and was worried about our car. We were in a renovated room and rooms were dirty, bed sheets smelled, and room smelled like smoke. The mini fridge made noises all night long, the beds squeaked and were very hard, the plugs in outlets could not hold any cords, they would just fall right out (we tried all 3 outlets), the bathtub had stains, and the bathroom did not appear to be cleanly. Overall, I was not impressed with the level of care taken on the room and would not recommend. Definitely read reviews if considering staying here to ensure if it’s a good fit for your needs.

This is a lovely motor inn, with a great pool, nice clean rooms, and a wonderful staff. When I checked in, Brandon was so nice and helpful. He gave me tips on where to eat, what to see, and to hydrate as he gave me two water bottles! Ernie was also great. He told me they would open the pool early because I wanted to swim before we started our day. I would definitely stay here again. Our maid was super nice as well!

This is a very great place to stay and also very affordable! I’ve stayed in this hotel on a few different occasions and it’s always been a great experience. I feel safe inside the rooms and I don’t feel like my car would get stolen or anything. The rooms always smell clean and well taken care of. The hotel is in an area of Albuquerque that is a little iffy to some people, but in my opinion, the fences and lighting does enough to keep weird people out. Anyone wanting to find somewhere affordable, safe, and clean, this is the place to go.

The good stuff:We booked through a third party the day of our stay. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The room was newly remodeled and felt clean. Great space for us and our dog. She gave us a room with a space right in front on the bottom floor for convenience with our pet. It’s like an older hotel that’s being renovated.Lol, every hotel with a “dog area“ in New Mexico always has lots of rocks and our dog hates it. We always have to walk her somewhere else where there’s grass. My husband found a vacant lot somewhere kind of close by. Yes, there were homeless people nearby but honestly, that’s really hard to get away from in Albuquerque. We stay in this city a lot and the location was convenient, really close to I-40. As other reviewers have mentioned, the hotel’s a little precarious, to actually pull into, but that’s on purpose to keep the property safe. It has a high fence all the way around it. You can only pull in and get access to their driveway if you’re headed north after exiting I-40. If you are headed to the hotel from the south, you’ll have to cross I-40 and flip a u-turn to get back to the hotel and pull in.THE REASON FOR ONLY 4 stars- as I said, we booked through a third-party and we were charged an extra $78 fee that I couldn’t figure out when I got home. I called the hotel and talked to various people on three different occasions to get an answer on the fee. On the second call, they said they knew what had happened and they would get back to me after they looked into it more. I said, “great. No problem.“ After no response for a few weeks, I called back again and left a message for the manager. I had to call back a fourth time to talk to someone and she assured me I would be refunded within the next five days, which I was. It took us just shy of eight weeks to get the problem resolved, even though the manager or owner said they knew what had happened 4 weeks before that. I realize people are busy, but because this was the hotel’s fault I felt it very unprofessional to take that long to resolve the issue that I had to keep calling about because no one would call me back.My suggestion is that you make sure that you check out the morning you leave at the front desk. I did not do that, assuming everything was fine. If I had taken the extra moment to do that, I’m PRETTY SURE The extra anonymous charge (which had to do with billing the 3rd party and nothing to do with extra room charges) perhaps could have been avoided…?Again, everything was fine as far as our actual stay. Hopefully they’ll learn that resolving issues like ours, in a timely manner, would benefit their business.

Well, let me tell you about this little gem of a motel my wife booked. It's not the Hilton, folks; in fact, it's more like the Motel Mismatch. She decided to save $80 a night, and boy, did we get what we paid for.First off, the so-called "renovated" rooms look like they were contracted by a five-year-old. I mean, if you're into avant-garde interior design, this place is a masterpiece of chaos. Now, let's talk about the location. It's a bit sketchy whether you're driving around at 2 am or 2 pm. You know you're in an interesting neighborhood when even the stray cats give you side-eye. But hey, it adds some excitement to your stay, right? The beds are a whole other story. One feels like a trampoline, and I half expected to bounce straight out of the room. The other one? Well, it's as flat as a pancake. So, you get to choose between feeling like you're in a circus act or sinking into the abyss. On the bright side, there are a few pros. It's cheap, and if you're a fan of swimming, the pool does look nice – if you don't mind a floating Band-Aid or two. They also give you two complimentary chocolates and water bottles, which is their way of apologizing for everything else. And I must say, the water pressure in the shower was surprisingly good. It was like Mother Nature herself was trying to wash away the motel's sins. But let's talk about the night crew, shall we? Norman Bates would feel right at home here. They might give you the creeps, but they're strangely nice, in that eerie way that makes you wonder what they're plotting behind those friendly smiles. If you're into that kind of thing, it's a bonus. In conclusion, if you can afford the Hilton, for the love of all that is holy, go for the Hilton. But if you're feeling adventurous, want to test your bounce on a bed, and enjoy the thrill of wondering whether you'll make it through the night, the Motel Mismatch might be your ticket to a memorable staycation.Ah, yes, how could I forget the bedding situation? It's like a mystery novel waiting to be unraveled. So, here's a pro tip for anyone considering a stay at the Motel Mismatch: bring your own sheets and pillowcases. Lord knows what's been festering in those guys. You'll sleep a lot easier knowing that your bed linens have a clean track record. Plus, it'll add a touch of your personal style to the room, which trust me, it sorely needs. Who knows, your fancy sheets might even become the talk of the night crew's secret meetings. Happy sleeping, intrepid travelers!Safety: Norman would never let anything bad happen to you.Walkability: I wouldn’t. Unless you want to make some new friends high on meth.Food & drinks: Dennys next door - 10% off if you bring your room key.Noteworthy details: Not the Hilton

We met our friends from Florida for the balloon fiesta and we all stayed at this charming place. Its being renovated so there is room to grow and for some improvements, but our room was clean and roomy, staff were very friendly and helpful, and although some reviews mention a homeless issue in the area, we didn't see any issues. There is a fence around the property and it felt safe. We were gone most of the days into the evenings but all of us got take out from a local restaurant and ate by the pool outside without any problems. Our only complaints are the beds need updating, and our room lacked USB ports that worked; however, our friends had many USBs. We would definitely stay here again. It is a bit noisy at times due to traffic but nothing that kept us awake. For the price, the San Mateo Inn was perfect for what we needed.

Very comfortable rooms. Honestly, the best value for the money. Mini fridge, microwave and new renovated rooms and free parking. Most importantly… No bibles in the nightstands. ❤️?️? 5-stars!

The location is sketchy but they put up privacy fencing to help offset that. They also have a fence around the property. We had a little trouble finding out room due to the odd number on the doors. They were renovating the property or something so part of it was blocked off. The dog potty area is super small so this is only a quick night passing through kind of place if you have a dog I’d say. They were super nice about us having pets and were gracious to us in pricing. Someone was above us so I couldn’t sleep at all that night. If you’re a light sleeper try and get the upper floor ones.

Was pleasantly surprised at the service (the front desk attendant was a true gem) & appreciate the attention given to security. The rooms were good but the bathroom left a lot to be desired in terms of appearance, there was a lot of unappealing stains on the sink & tub that made it feel unclean. The toilet was much too small a seat for anyone that is above average size.

I don't know Albuquerque that well, but we need a place to stay over night after a connect at Revel. The San Mateo Inn is located right of I-40 and within a 10 minutes drive from Revel. The room was big and nicely decorated (Coca Cola fridge is always a nice touch), bed was comfy, the bathrooms are huge, and parking felt safe. There's a Denny's and Starbucks next door if that's your thing. Overall great room at a great rate and great service. Check in and out was a breeze.
