Do yourself a favor and read this. If you rent from here they will not be open at 10:00pm even though they let you reserve the car because your flight came in. I arrived at 10:02pm. The guy was finishing up with two ladies. I was next and he told me he could not help me and that the guy in the gold box could help me outside. I went and there was nothing there but another car rental office. I went back in and he was gone lights turned off. Do not rent from here if you want to make sure you get a car.

Rented a car Laguardia air port 9/12/23. I declined PLATEPASS because we were only going to use the bridge once. Being from New Mexico which has NO toll roads or bridges I was definitely challenged. It would have been great customer service if the woman at the desk had asked me if I might need info on navigating the toll lanes (I've heard other rental co do this). Needless to say I ended up with a $307. PlatePass charge for using the bridge 1 day!! Stupid me. Ignorant rental employee.Actually the rest of the rental experience went very well.

Arrived at Thrifty fresh off of our flight to the ABQ airport. Had a reservation for a midsize SUV. Of course they had none, so they offered us a car in another class. However, their faulty credit credit card machine was unable to read the chip on any of my boyfriend's credit cards. He was supposed to be the primary driver, so according to the person checking us out, the car would have to go on his card. However, he would not be able to swipe or tap his card. Only use chip. And he refused to try my boyfriend's cards again. This resulted in us having to use my card, making me the primary driver and pay almost $100 extra to add my boyfriend on as a secondary driver. And of course my boyfriend's cards worked just fine everywhere else we went on our 8-day vacation all over New Mexico. Never renting from Thrifty again.

I reserved a car through Expedia, I paid $240 on my debit, I was informed I had to pay $70 when I pick up the car. I get to the rental facility, they charged me $437 on my credit card & didn’t get the car I initially reserved. I still haven’t gotten my $200 deposit. I reached out to Expedia & Thrifty, thrifty refused to refund me due to their “return policy” Do not reserve your vehicle with this company, you’re better off paying a little more elsewhere.

Awful experience there. I rented a car on the evening, and it had an issue next morning. I called the customer service, and they said to go to the location where I rented, and exchange it. They already gave them a notice that I was coming. However, when I got there, the manager said all cars were sold out, so I couldn’t exchange it. He was very rude, almost yelled at me, and used his finger to point on me so many times. He was very unprofessional, and to me, it was an extremely awful experience. I was late for my business meeting because of the car! No checking issues was definitely not acceptable, but the way how manager treated the customer was much more terrible.

Buyers beware! Terrible experience! Similar to the experience of the many other customers that rated this place as 1 out of 5. Arrive at the airport to pick-up my reserved car. Thirfty Representative: "Don't have cars! Some are on their way back. Wait anything from 2-3 hours. Will put you on waiting list!" Then, "They are now cleaning the cars!" The representative and manager lied to me. The truth is that they are incompetent. And cannot seem to manage their car fleet. The manager ended getting cars from Hertz to fill the gap between the required cars and the available Thrifty cars. It took over 1 hour to finally get the car. Reminded me of the Seinfield episode on the same topic. They seem they are good a take the reservation but not at holding it. LOL. Terrible place! Stay away!

We wish we could give this review 0 stars. This was the worst experience ever for a car rental. We arrived at the rental counter at 12:30 pm and were told there would be a 45-minute wait. An hour later, I approached the counter and was told it would be “another 10 minutes or so”. Our wait turned out to be over 2.5 hours. While we sat and waited with many other customers, there were 5 employees at the counter seemingly having a good time talking and laughing. At about 3pm, we noticed that one by one the staff members disappeared. We initially thought that cars had been returned and they were cleaning and prepping them. Suddenly, the last employee turned out the lights and left via a back door.Shortly thereafter, a Thrifty employee came out and began telling us there would be no cars available today, and we were given a voucher for our 'inconvenience'. We asked for solutions - maybe another car rental company, etc., but nothing!! I asked the employee for his name, but he refused to provide it.We were stranded at Albuquerque airport - not a city you can get around in without a car. There were many of us including a couple with 3 children, a woman who was coming to see her dad who was gravely ill, etc., etc. Customers continued to arrive on the airport bus to find the Thrifty counter with the lights out and no available staff. Several had pre-paid for a car.We contacted Thrifty via chat on Instagram. After a few exchanges we were told that they would contact the ABQ location and call us when a car was available. At the end of our 8 day trip, we had still not received a call.We sent a letter to the highest levels at Hertz (their parent company) and received a call from the "executive office" apologizing and promising to look into the matter. This was the worst level of service we have ever experienced. For the stress that we experienced, for the loss of time, for the absence of professionalism, for the absolute worst handling of a bad situation by a “service company”, we srongly recommend that you avoid Thrifty car rental. Honestly, they shouldn't even be permitted to operate in NM.

Checkin was disappointing. I attempted to inform the agent of the deficiencies I noted in my rental. He ignored the list and my effort to inform. He simply told me to place the key fob in the car. No thank you or anything.List I tried to submit:Transmission would sometimes lock in park or drive.Engine oil leak - puddles of oil left on pavementDash display would not connect to blue tooth and was very unresponsive to touch commands.Tire inflation light was on.2018 Jeep Renegade - Red.

We had arranged to collect our rental car at 9.30pm. Our incoming flight was delayed and we arrived late (10.30pm) to collect our car. There was no one at the desk and we received no instructions/information so we were forced to Uber to our Airbnb & Uber back in the morning to collect car — very expensive Uber trips during peak balloon fiesta! The young man at the desk at 7am couldn’t have cared less about our situation & just slid a piece of paper with his General Manager’s contact details at us…. Obviously this is something he does a lot as I hadn’t asked for management, just explained our situation. His care factor was ZERO. Bad service, won’t be using Thrifty again. Ever

Never ever rent from Thrifty. Reserved a car weeks in advance, got there and they didn't have any cars.

Avoid this establishment at all costs! Cars are not available and they falsely charge you for gas even when you return the car with a full tank (and refuse to fully refund you for their overcharge). My unfortunate encounter with them occurred in September 2023 and left me utterly frustrated. Despite having a reservation for the exact time my flight landed, I arrived at the counter half an hour later to be told that no cars were available. This situation was not unique to me, as numerous other customers were left waiting for over an hour without any vehicles in sight. It's an infuriating experience, especially after a long flight when all you want is a seamless departure. To make matters worse, when the car finally arrived, it was purported to have a full tank of gas, but it was, in fact, slightly under the full mark. I was in a hurry to get going, so I decided not to raise a complaint about it. To add to the disappointment, the car was far from clean.Upon returning the car, I ensured it was filled up at the nearest gas station. The person inspecting the vehicle gave it a thumbs up, and I departed. However, when I received my receipt after returning home, I discovered they had marked the tank as 95% full and charged me $12.20 for refueling, along with an additional $1.53 for taxes and concession fees. These extra charges were calculated based on a base fee that included the erroneous refueling fee.I immediately voiced my complaint to Thrifty, and although they agreed to refund me the $12.20, they refused to reimburse the full overcharge of $13.73. I specifically pointed out that they still owed me $1.53, which represented the excess charges encompassing taxes and concession fees calculated based on the incorrect fuel-related charges. Thrifty, however, stood firm in their refusal to refund the $1.53, despite providing no explanation for what this amount would be due for. I followed-up seeking an explanation for the $1.53 overcharge if not due to extra taxes and concession fee charges due to the fuel overcharge. They, however, unprofessionally chose to ignore my reasonable request for clarification.Adding insult to injury, when I reviewed my credit card statement, it turned out that they had only refunded $12.10 instead of the promised $12.20. I'm left wondering if this was an innocent error or simply another attempt by Thrifty to skim money. The situation is utterly absurd, and I'm convinced they get away with such practices 95% of the time, as most individuals may not bother to scrutinize their receipts or dispute the charges. Considering the countless customers who might have fallen victim to similar deceptive tactics, it's apparent that this adds up to an unjustified and substantial profit for Thrifty.

If I could give a negative I would. They hit us with a surprise $500 fee when we arrived to pick up the car. We ended up canceling, renting with another company, and having hardly anything left for our vacation.

I would definitely not recommend using thrifty. After a very long day, I finally got to my destinations and waited in line to get a car rental which was fully paid for. When the counter attendant said he’s shutting things down. It was a nightmare trying to get my money back but I did. I would definitely not recommend this place they will leave you stranded.

Top Notch Service. Best car rental experience ever! We were taken care of from start to finish, but Harold was by far and away the best part of the whole process, the golden star of my first time in New Mexico. Harold, your timing was impeccable and we are forever grateful for you making sure we got everything handled and to the airport safely with plenty of time. We hope to see you again.
