The staff at capitan family Dollar is way nicer than the staff at Dollar general. And you don't have to search the whole store to find someone to help you and that makes all the difference in the world.

Only 4 stars because sometimes it’s just to cluttered. I know it’s hard in a small town to find help. Small towns areGreatly Affected due to all the Covid restrictions. Sad. But just can’t find good dependable help much anymore. They have a good selection of items so you don’t have to run all the way to Ruidoso for some quick shopping. Fairly reasonably priced. Staff is friendly. But they are constantly restocking items and boxes take up tons of room in the isle ways. Other than that, I do shop there when I need a place close to home.

I am giving this rating based solely off the actions of this store's Upper management (the district manager). This store has gone through an extreme makeover. They got a new store manager (Sammi I think is her name), she got the staff in shape and then she got that store in shape. Everybody in town has noticed the big change since this new store manager has arrived. Everyone has also noticed her boss who is some Hispanic/Mexican guy from El Paso Texas. He goes by Ivan or Manuel Orosco. He drops in every week or so and brings down a storm on that little store. There have been at least four people in town that were the store manager prior to this new girl Sammi and all four of them quit due Ivan's unrealistic expectations, his personal activities that take place on the job, and more importantly his lack of overall safety or care for his staff of customers. I have been in there numerous times and hear him barking orders at the store staff and store manager and telling them to do unsafe things. One reason I stopped shopping here is because there were always boxes in the isles to the point that you could barely walk let alone push a cart through them. Since Sammi took over there has been none of that. That being said the few times I have been there when Ivan is there I hear him give explicit directives to place boxes in isles, stack them at unsafe heights, and place them in a manner that is unsafe to everyone. It should also be noted that I have been to the other stores in the area and have heard various staff complaining about the unsafe things that this man makes them do. This is a very small community so everybody talks to everybody. I am writing this post in hopes that someone will address this man and his lack of care towards safety. In the meantime, and I apologize in advance for anyone this will directly affect but I will be calling the county fire Marshall as well as OSHA and reporting this man Ivan/Manuel. My son works for the labor department in Santa Fe and this store could be shut down and family dollar fined with the way he is forcing his staff to operate. On top of that let some elderly person trip on those boxes in the isles or let there be a fire and nobody can get out because he has ordered stuff placed near emergency exits, talk about a bad day for family dollar. He is the district manager in this area so you can bet his other store are FORCED to function the same way and with jobs so scarce in this area his staff cannot speak up. Something needs to be done about this Ivan/Manuel who is more concerned with his pockets than the safety of his staff and patrons.

The older woman cashier was on her cell phone nearly whole time checking me out. Also, trying to figure out who was beeping her on the phone. Phone hardly left her hand while checking me out. Needless to say I got home with out one of my items. Guess she didn't get it bagged. I did not check my bag, needless to say before leaving. Should have, but so irritated at her I just left.

The store is always a mess. It looks like the shelves just have random things thrown on them, and if there isn't room then it's just thrown on the floor. The isles are in constant disarray, makes you wonder what the staff their do in their spare time. Even the counter where the employees hang out is always a huge mess. From what I gather their is no manager which means the young, the restless, and the overindulgent (those who partake in illegal substances) are left to their own devices completely unsupervised. I went in there there last night and the lady behind the counter was having a full on jaw jack attack (happens when you're tweaking). She kept juggling her dentures around in her mouth, couldn't find the handles on the plastic bag to hand it to me so she just wadded it up and slid it across the counter, then in between straightening out her dentures and trying to keep her eyeballs from rolling around in her head she muttered/slurred "khave a nish thay". This is not the type of thing you want to see at a "Family" store. They need to have a full time manager in their ASAP someone who isn't a brother, sister, cousin, uncle-dad, etc and someone who isn't from this town to keep these people in check and get that store squared away.
