The Lofts at Sterling and Sage are simply beautiful with high end appointments, giant comfy bed, beautiful bathroom and shower. Out on the balcony are to southwestern design chairs with views over the Toltec Trains. If you are coming to Chama to ride the trains this is a perfect location to spend the night prior and the day after. Money well spent! Very Clean and well maintained.

Wanting to ride the Cumbres and Toltec during the peak leaf season I knew it would be difficult to book a room the same day. I called two hotels in Antonito and three hotels in Chama before I was able to book with Sterling and Sage. As a rail fan, the view from my balcony was the best in town. The rooms were very nice. The contactless check-in was a breeze and very simple.
Walkability: Chama is a small town, Everything was very close.

This room was the icing on the cake after a gorgeous train trip. The room is appointed beautifully, beds plush, comfortable. Even overlooking train depot it was Uber quiet and so relaxing. Phenomenal bath and shower!
All kinds of comfort extras! Coffee, makeup mirror. Can’t go wrong! Thank you!
Rooms: Gorgeous details. Fine quality decor

Beautiful, beautiful hotel. We spent two nights here. Our room was clean and comfortable, (although a bit dark). The bathroom was very nice and the in-room coffee was the best!

We made a detour from our itinerary and needed a room for one night. We called for a reservation about one hour away and the hosts were very responsive and helpful. Stayed in a very nice room overlooking the railyard, which was a big bonus as I enjoy steam engines. The train yard set against the yellow leaves highlighted by the sunset made for a great picture and very relaxing while sitting on the balcony. The room was nicely done and had everything we needed. Highly recommend staying here.

The Lofts are quite charming and a very pleasant surprise. Chama is a quaint village and it just became more quaint now that we have discovered The Lofts at Sterling and Sage. We will most definitely stay again. The hospitality is above and beyond.
Rooms: Very charming, well decorated, and appropriate for the area. The bathrooms are unique.
Nearby activities: All businesses, the train, and restaurants are close, most within walking distance.
Safety: The entrance and rooms are well secured. It was comforting knowing everything was coded.
Noteworthy details: Overall, our stay was a fabulous experience. This is a quiet, relaxing, well maintained place, no out of control children or disrespectful people. We felt welcomed and valued as guests.

Room is amazing. Love the rustic decor. Right in between down town and the rail yard. Communication was perfect. The mule deer was an added bonus. Loved seeing the train come in the afternoon. Horn tooting and people getting off. I have never had so much from a balcony.

Stayed here on a getaway trip to, of course, ride the scenic Cumbres and Toltec train ride. If you love trains, stay here. The Toltec room overlooks the train depot and was just fun to watch. Beautiful view of the mountains too.
Beautiful room/shower perfect for a quiet and relaxing stay. Especially loved the balcony and were able to hear the elk bugling in the early morning.
Owners were very communicative which is always appreciated. Lodging exactly as described. Very clean as well. Private parking, mini fridge, wifi, and coffee bar provided. Gas fireplace as well, which we didn’t have the opportunity to use. Microwave in the hall to share with other guests. Walking distance to a couple of restaurants and coffee shops. Only downside to this room, is there is many stairs, so may be difficult if significant mobility issues.
While there is other places to stay in Chama, this must be the nicest and most comfortable by far. Definitely would stay here again!

Our two-night stay in the relaxing, well-appointed Toltec room at the Lofts served as a perfectly serene retreat for enjoying the cooler fall evening temperatures on the back patio overlooking the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic rail yard in Chama with distant mountain views. Our evenings were wonderfully quiet and the room stayed warm as the temperatures dipped into the 40s F each night in early September. The bathroom was beautiful decorated and included a spacious shower and plenty of countertop space for two. We so appreciated having the refrigerator and Keurig coffee maker in the room, too. Thank you for creating such beautiful places to visit and stay.
Nearby activities: The Lofts provide ready access to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad at the Chama station, the Railyard Rebel gift shop, and to Chama's quaint downtown. Another short walk away is the Rio Chama Espresso shop if you like a hand-crafted coffee to kick off your day. We traveled to Chama to celebrate our wedding anniversary with a ride in one of the beautiful parlor cars from Antonito, CO, to Chama, NM. The different vistas and views across the 64-mile ride are spectacular, and the train’s leisurely pace and unique access to adjacent NM and CO backcountry areas provide the opportunity to enjoy the peaceful serenity of the vast outdoors.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Cumbres room! Very spacious with a beautiful view of the rail yard and the greenery behind it. If you catch a quiet moment you can hear the Chama babbling as it flows. The hosts were very responsive and attentive. And the proximity to the rail yard made it perfect for our train ride. Only advice I’ll give is if you’re arriving on Sunday night you may want to eat something on the way because, just like in most small towns, things are kind of dead Sunday night. But other than that, you’ll enjoy your stay at the Lofts

We really enjoyed staying at the Lofts in Chama. And we can't praise the owners enough for working with us to find a date that worked after a family emergency caused a change in plans. It turned out that the Lofts were perfect for a night of downtime and we would highly recommend the Lofts and the owners. They were Super!

This place is amazing! The lofts are 4 luxury rooms above the Railyard Rebel store in Chama NM. We stayed in the Cumbres room overlooking the rail yard for the Cumbres and Toltec Railway. This was the best experience. The rooms are private, you get codes to get in the building and for your room. The room codes are changed for every guest. Our room was done in deep reds and browns with a old west feel. We had the most amazing shower! The room has a small fridge, keuring and a large selection of coffee and tea. We had real coffee mugs, and glassware for cocktails and wine. Our room had a basket with sweeteners, creamers, a corkscrew, a bottle opener and a deck of cards. There is a small gas fireplace in the corner and a very comfy chair. The bathroom is well appointed with spa quality towels, shampoo, body wash and conditioner. Extra towels can be found in the closet with the ironing board, luggage rack and iron.
The bed was so cozy with10 pillows! The porch was nice with a couple of rockers and a table. Bring slippers or flip flops for standing on the porch in the cool mornings and evenings. The tile gets cold. In the hall is a community microwave, some more tea selections, a first aid kit, playing cards and a selection of coffee table books. The quiet was a welcome change from traditional "hotels". With only 4 rooms and adults only, we didn't have the hallway noise you get in bigger places.
The security was top notch with digital locks and security on the patio doors. ABSOLUTELY worth the price of the stay. We are already planning our next stay.
Noteworthy details: While our hosts are not on the property, they are available. Every need was anticipated even our need for a first aid kit. This is not a property for folks with small kids. This is a luxury retreat for adult guests who will appreciate the privacy, quiet and security.
