UPDATE 2/21/24: Add to the terrible process below the fact that our tax pro never asked us for our direct deposit information, nor were we ever given the opportunity on the app to add it. And our tax pro never followed up with us to get it. So, now that our taxes have been filed, we are left to assume that our state refund will come snail mail via Emerald card or whatever, instead of MUCH FASTER direct deposit. UNSAT (again).On a positive note, after what I can only assume was our tax pro (or her supervisor) reading my last review, our tax pro emailed us apologizing for the experience we had. That is saying something; at least she followed up to say sorry and offer to do better next year. We will not be coming back, but the offer does mean something to us.ORIGINAL POST:Lynda Stevens at the Kirtland AFB BX is very bright and was always responsive to our calls/needs. She is friendly and sharp.HOWEVER, this is NOT the H&R Block business model from years past. “In-person with a pro” is NOT. She took some documents and then dismissed us. I was in the chair for 3 minutes. BEWARE, that if you go with H&R Block now, it’s ALL THROUGH AN APP, which is deeply flawed. If I am doing everything through an app or a website, you might as well use TurboTax or something else for a fraction of the cost!! (we paid $390!!) First, in the app you can’t see what information the tax pro entered from the documents we gave her or uploaded until the filing is complete for review, which for us was over a week and a half and required us to look through dozens of complicated tax forms. We couldn’t make live corrections because we couldn’t see what she entered. Second, the app has a problem where if you have it open, the tax pro can’t edit your forms. (…But wait, did I have it open in the app, or the website? Or did my wife have it open?! Who knows?! So much room for error.) Third, you have to choose the “SIGN” option to review/reject the forms which is very counter-intuitive and caused even our tax pro to question and call the help desk. Fourth, mistakes were made! Because of the new business model, our tax pro was the only one at our location, and she worked at multiple locations!! Because everything is done on the MyBlock app, H&R Block didn’t hire many people!! So our tax pro was spread so thin between all her locations and customers that mistakes were made. The tax pro incorrectly entered some data, forgot some details we told her (realistically, how could she keep ANY of her customers straight?!), and we had to clarify and scrutinize each entry because we (to this day) have little faith the filing is correct—and we ended up OWING money! So I am left with the feeling that if we had sat down with someone and entered the data together, or even DID IT OURSELVES, that we may not OWE money. No return for us. My faith in the company is gone because the business model doesn’t support customer service. Lynda Stevens is a smart tax pro and was very responsive when we needed her. But H&R Block has set her customers up for failure with this business model, because if mistakes are made, it’s not Stevens who loses out on money, but YOU, the customer. End of rant.

Tenesha is knowledgeable and friendly. Working with her was a pleasure. She helped us with deductions for self employment and knew immediately what we could or could not deduct. We are new to NM and needed to file in two states. She knew the NM regulations and was able to look up the LA state regulations quickly. I usually prepare our tax returns myself, but this year was complicated given our major relocation and other factors. I didn't feel confident preparing them myself so I needed a professional. Tenesha was that professional. Despite owing money, I feel confident that we got the best outcome possible for our returns. We have the peace of mind knowing that if there is any problem, H&R will handle it. This was so easy, I am very likely to let H&R handle our returns in the future.
