There is lots of talk of this as a healing, spiritual center. I thought the local native peoples thought it was a place to avoid, a place where bad things had happened. I have even heard that it could have been a slave trading center and the local tribes were pretty much chewed up and spat out-exploited by elites from another area. Eventually the elites moved on, moved south. Perhaps they became the Aztecs we know so well.

Incredible cultural experience. Plan to spend lots of time. You'll need it to cover the entire structure adequately.

Chaco Culture National Historical Park is truly a special place. I highly recommend camping there if you have the opportunity. The vibe & night sky is incredible.

It’s the biggest ruins. Must see. Let your imagination takes you back in time.

Wonderful exhibits and well maintained buildings. The restorations to show how it would have looked are helpful to picture life in those times. Rangers were super willing to answer our many questions and had great suggestions for additional reading on this topic.

What an enchanting place, also very historic and spiritual. Pueblo Bonito is a very calm and cool place. I would recommend going to any family or couple.

Definitely the most amazing pueblo ruins! So happy we waited for the cooler fall temps. We loved all of Chaco Canyon but sadly will never be back. The road to get here is awful.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Chico Canyon historical sites. Well worth the walking tours when you go visit end of October!

We spent the day exploring the ruins and hiking. Bring food along with you. It is remote and there are no food services.

Absolutely worth it. Don’t let the bumpy dirt roads deter you from going. I drive a bmw 230i, low car, and even that was no problem; you just have to go slow in the beginning where it’s a rocky and bumpy, but after that it’s relatively smooth (Navajo Service Road 57).The ruins themselves are spectacular. Must-see UNESCO World Heritage Site. Barely any people in this huge ancient city of ruins… and by barely, I mean in the whole park I must’ve crossed half a dozen people the whole day I was there. 2 cars in the parking lot. Gives you the whole ruins to yourself, you can almost hear the ancient ghosts lol.Visitor center staff super nice… the video projector for the movie wasn’t working but they got it starting just for us after 30 minutes.Strongly recommend seeing the sunset on top of Pueblo Alto trail!!! On the way you can see the whole valley with Kin Kletsin and Pueblo Bonito.Even saw some wild grazing animals crossing the road on the loop!!You can even walk inside the maze of rooms in Pueblo Bonito and get lost walking among the very same walls these people walked in a thousand years ago…A unique experience and well-maintained. Just respect the cultures and recognize that this is still a holy site, this is basically the Puebloan Jerusalem for surrounding Indigenous nations! Don’t vandalize or desecrate, as is sadly popular in many Precolumbian burial sites and ancient cities like this one.

This is a must see place, better enter the park in the morning when they open the gate. A lot of time needed to exploring the whole area, if you like to hike, add at less once more day. By the way, the last 15 miles unpaved road is hard on your car, be ready.

You need to go to the inside and see how it was made.
