About Wilderwood
Wilderwood offers innovative, autistic-led, equine-inspired programs designed to create opportunities for autistic adults, children, and youth. The organization also provides a lifelong sanctuary for unwanted horses and focuses on educating the community about autism and equine care. Participants have shared transformative experiences through programs like the Equine Experience, where children learn about horse behavior in a calm, supportive environment. Many parents note their children's newfound comfort and excitement around horses after these sessions. The thoughtful programs developed by the Evanko family, such as EA/SEL and Wilderdoodles, engage autistic children and help them embrace their strengths and gifts. Volunteers at Wilderwood express deep gratitude for the chance to contribute to the community, learning about autism and horses while working alongside skilled professionals. The tranquil property fosters a sense of peace and healing, making it a unique space for all involved. Retreats like the Hautism retreat for autistic women provide invaluable therapeutic knowledge and a supportive community, helping participants navigate life with renewed strength and understanding. Attendees have praised the caring leadership and the emphasis on personal growth, creating a sense of safety and belonging. Overall, Wilderwood stands out as a remarkable organization committed to fostering healing, support, and connection within the autistic community and beyond.

My son participated in both the EA/SEL and Wilderdoodles. Dr. Rebecca Evanko has created and implemented a thoughtful program aimed at autistic children. The children are engaged and they are taught methods to learn how to embrace their strengths and gifts.
