Watermelon Mountain Ranch

Hours: Watermelon Mountain Ranch is New Mexico's largest no-kill animal shelter, having found homes for over 150,000 dogs and cats since 1996. They are a network partner of Best Friends Animal Society and travel across the southwest rescuing animals on high-kill shelter euthanasia lists. The shelter is grateful for the loyal supporters who make their life-saving programs possible. Visitors can volunteer to cuddle and walk the animals, and donations are welcomed. Another reviewer adopted a dog named Casper 11 years ago, who was the most loving and intelligent dog they've ever owned. While the canyon tours and views are beautiful, the climb back up to the parking level can be a struggle due to the high elevation.
