About Watermelon Mountain Ranch
Watermelon Mountain Ranch is New Mexico's largest no-kill animal shelter, having found homes for over 150,000 dogs and cats since 1996. They are a network partner of Best Friends Animal Society and travel across the southwest rescuing animals on high-kill shelter euthanasia lists. The shelter is grateful for the loyal supporters who make their life-saving programs possible. Visitors can volunteer to cuddle and walk the animals, and donations are welcomed. The staff is described as very kind, and the animals are well-cared for. One reviewer adopted a dog named Daisy, now called Espy, who gets along wonderfully with their other dog. Another reviewer adopted a dog named Casper 11 years ago, who was the most loving and intelligent dog they've ever owned. While the canyon tours and views are beautiful, the climb back up to the parking level can be a struggle due to the high elevation. Overall, Watermelon Mountain Ranch is praised for its efforts in rescuing and rehoming animals, as well as providing a positive experience for visitors.

We adopted a 2 year old female. She adapted to our home so quickly. The adoption was thorough and safe for our kitty. She had been soayed, chipped and traveled up from Roswell Shelter. I am so pleased at how socialized she is. Thank you for saving this little girl for us to love.
