“I am new to the area and thrilled to have discovered Taos Herb Company. Their selection is excellent, the employees are knowledgeable and very friendly, and the prices are reasonable.

In conversation with one of the employees, I learned that the shop has been open for 44 years and was recently purchased by a longtime employee, so it’s hopefully here to stay.”

“Visiting Taos and looking for a great grocery store / food market? This is it. Think of it like a mini Whole Foods (minus the icky Bezos vibes) and with plenty of vegan options. From fresh vegan tamales to your usual frozen vegan fare, it's all here. Well, most of what you might hope to find in a tiny metro like Taos. Bring your wallet though; this isn't the place for bargains. We were very happy to make a stop for snacks and dinner prep.”

Please be aware, however, that it's a co-op, fully volunteer-run and not a regular grocery store.
There are going to be some quirks because of this and it doesn't 100% operate like a typical grocery store would.
You probably won't do all your shopping here; the store-front is small but they do try to keep a good variety in stock.
Prices are comparable with other natural food sources in town but members get 10% off and volunteers get 20% off.
Some of the cashiers are a bit confrontational or seem to get annoyed easily and idk why.
I regret that because it reflects badly on the co-op as a whole which I don't think is fair.
Most of the volunteers I have encountered are super-nice people and hard-working and will try to help you the best they can.
But they are volunteers not full-time employees and most only work a few hours a week so they don't know everything about everything so please be patient.
It's a great place to do bulk orders if you're interested, and I think anyone can do that, member or not.
They have some great produce, especially local produce but be sure to catch it when it's fresh.
I personally think it would be a better schedule to be open on Sunday and closed on Monday because a lot of people like to do their grocery shopping over the weekend.
Many community members grow or make foods/products that are available through the co-op so if you can't make it to the farmer's market, this is a decent alternative during the week.
Decent selection of pre-made foods, but they sell-out fast.
Additionally they have a juice/wrap bar, but I think the hours are fairly limited at the moment.
Friday you can come and get some awesome tamales and tortillas made from scratch, served hot and that is definitely worth visiting for!
One of the things I really like about this co-op is that they will honor your membership from a different co-op so that if you are visiting, you can still get the member's discount!
I think that just goes to show a lot of good-will and what they are really in this for.
So no, it's not perfect- and it probably never will be- but to me it's an important way to support the local community and keep some of our food away from corporate greed.”
