Having rented from this Hertz location around ten times, I have had both positive and negative experiences. The good: the cars were always in good condition and they worked. I got to experience a variety of car models. The worst was when they pushed electric cars. I often chose a cheaper rental option and for a while this always meant being offered an electric car --- or having to pay a substantial difference to get a conventional car.The Teslas were never charged to 80%, the level recommended by the manufacturer, let alone 100%. The most I got from Hertz was 64% and it was take it or leave it. I took it and it was quite bad. I had to cut my trip short and when I finally got back to a charging station the charge was down to 4%; the car was flashing warnings every minute or so.Charging to the recommended 80% level would have made a difference.Another time, being aware of the cars' short range and of the difficulty in finding a Tesla charging station, I asked for an adapter, to recharge the car myself, including overnight --- only to be told that they ran out of adapters. For context, the car they were offering me was charged at 45%. Again, it was take it or leave it.Presumably, when renting a Tesla from Hertz, I am supposed to have my own adapter and go right away and charge it, on my own time. Batteries not included. This was very passive aggressive and clearly meant to push me into selecting a pricier option. At least once I gave in and rented a much more expensive car, so this tactic worked. To their defense, perhaps in the US it is customary to tip when renting a car (no idea), which I did not. Or maybe my mistake was paying in advance.Anyway, they only cared about upselling and/or getting tipped (again, no idea). One salesperson, in particular, threw me really dirty glances and treated me like dirt.I guess that renting a car is meant to be a chore, because in the US one only does it in the absence of any other option, and then they squeeze you for all they can, while making clear that they are doing you a favor.

I would place a negative review if I could. I hate placing negative reviews, but this was a terrible experience. This rental was booked for me through a third party, due to a lack of rental cars at the original location. When I arrived, the store smelled terribly of marijuana inside. I chalked this up to its location (next to a smoke shop.) When I was introduced to the rental, the worker asked if it was clean enough, or if they needed to clean it. I felt obligated to say it was fine at the moment. After entering the vehicle, I realized that the entire vehicle reeked of marijuana. I tried to ignore it, as they were closing soon and I had somewhere to be. Within the next hour, I returned to the store to return it. The smell was so intense that it was giving me a headache. When I returned the keys, I went to get in my friends car that was parked towards the back of the parking lot. Parked next to my friend's car was a truck, with two drugged-out individuals passed straight out. I ended up alerting the authorities because I was concerned for their welfare and those around them if they were to drive away. The overall situation was unsettling, and when I called the next day to report the condition of the vehicle, I was informed that the third party would still be charged for the day. No apologies, or explanations. Save yourself time and peace; do not go to this store; go to any other rental company.

If you want to rent with hertz, go with Albany airport but not this place.Unprofessional customer service, communication issues made the experience subpar. Improvement is needed. The guy at the front desk was extremely rude, hostile and very unprofessional. The guy was wearing sunglasses inside the store was extremely disrespectful and had a hostile tone from the start. He was very poor in communicating effectively about the inventory. Of all the decade of experience with renting from hertz, this was by far the worst. He needs proper customer service training and hertz should reprimand him to retain customers.Thankfully Albany airport hertz location has helped with no problem.

First, we paid $500 for a full size sedan. Hertz gave us a nationally recognized mid size sedan, which they call full size so that's just how it is. A little bait and switch. Secondly, the car was filthy so they gave us a small SUV. It was also filthy and I spent about an hour getting the rental after helping clean the vehicle just to get it to OK status. The young man that helped us was Hertz only redeeming quality. He was great and helped us as much as he could. See attached photos.

The Tesla was a mess. Easy enough location. But way back, next to a “smoke shop”. Employees lounging outside. Very smelly office. Car was presented to us dirty, squeaky, smelly. If I saved a buck, I would have preferred to pay more for a nice experience. I don’t think the triple AAA booking did me any favors or they may want to renegotiate who they work with. Definitely try elsewhere.

I wouldn’t rate if I didn’t have to. One of the worst experiences I’ve had! I rent cars all of the time and I’ve never had an issue. The only issue I had this time was renting from this location. They don’t seem to be servicing the cars in between customers. They seem to be more worried about the money vs customer safety. I wouldn’t want a car from this location if it was free! Never again would I rent from here I would rather take public transportation I feel more safe

Not sure why this location has so many negative reviews besides, people are stressed when they travel, and angry customers are more motivated to write a review than happy ones. Well as for me, this was the best experience I've EVER had renting a car. I showed up and was immediately assisted and out the door with a car in less than 5 minutes (new record!). Initially I had reserved a Tesla, and with a thousand things on my mind at the time (emergency visit), wasn't even thinking "hmm maybe NOW isn't the time to figure out the whole EV thing". The associate was friendly and since there were other available cars, had no issue making a switch to a comparable (in size & price) gas-operated car instead. I kept the car several days longer than I reserved it for and dropped it off, which took two seconds to hand over the keys to the associate who appeared to be outside on break but promptly assisted me. I was billed appropriately for time and it was the most pain-free rental experience of my life. Thank you!!!

Very disappointing experience. No attempt to provide any customer service. I will try to be objective….Rented a Tesla for a full month, so gave Hertz decent business. It turns out I was automatically (no one ever asked me) enrolled in their “unlimited tolls” program…for USD 27 per day. This resulted in over 600 in toll charges. But this is NOT the issue. This was resolved over the phone by a Hertz representative not associated with the agency where I picked up the car (818 Central Ave). My issue is that I drove 45 mins to the Albany agency to try to get help in understanding the charges. A young, caucasian gentleman…with a large woman’s tattoo in his right arm made no attempt whatsoever to help, and he was rude….with what I consider “an attitude” (I’m including this info, only to be able to identify him for further feedback if someone deems it worth their while). I had my confirmation number with me, but not my contract number. This apparently made it impossible for him to pull my info….So I drove 90mins roundtrip without even being able to get a receipt to start understanding the charges they applied to my credit card (the lady on the phone pull this information for me in 45 seconds). I do not consider myself a complicated person, I have been around, I have travelled internationally extensively, rented from many companies. This was not ok. Not everyone is meant to be customer facing….so maybe it is time for Hertz, local or corporate…to start listening to its customers. I will also attempt to contact the corporate offices to provide feedback on my rental experience. A true shame.

I wish I could give this place negative stars. After floods all Amtraks were cancelled from Albany to NYC. We had to rent a car. Electric was cheapest, we took that. The rude kid at the counter told me he's giving me one that's only half charged. After many complaints that I need to drive 3 hours south and need a fully charged car, he told me take it or leave it. That he's just the guy who "swipes the card". The online reservation we made didn't allow us to change the rental drop off location to one in NYC. He wouldn't change that either. I had to extend my stay another day amd switch to Albany train to drive this POS rental back to Albany. Never never again will I use Hertz.

This is worst the car rental company in the world! I was a loyal customer until this issue! They over charged me for a week over which cost $2237.85 and was supposed to a refund me back since last year but never did. After I call the stores numerous times and the stuff are clueless and useless. I called their regional manager and he is just as clueless and useless as his staff. Lastly, I called corporate and they are just as the same!!!! Beware on this unprofessional high priced car rental place!!!!!!!!!!!!

The rental experience was good overall, but they gave me the car half full of gas. I returned it with 5/8 bars, and they charged me $60 to fill up the rest of the tank. When I rented the vehicle, there was no explanation that I had to return it with a full tank. Now they won't answer my calls to explain why they charged me extra for gas. I hope this can be resolved. So far no one has picked up and the automated system doesn't seem to cover this case.
