Great selection of produce (lots of organic options), bulk foods, interesting dairy and plant-based items (cheeses, creamers, etc.), and very nice butcher shop. Run mostly by volunteers I think.

I go here for lunch only once every other week hoping they cooked nice food like they used to. I used to go here almost everyday to grab hot foods and salads. Their salad section is fixed and good enough, however, at least for the past 6 months I would say that they make terrible food, and prices are way too expensive. Prepared to pay $25 ++ for a lunch which is no more tasty and terrible recipes.

We love shopping at Honest Weight Food Co-op. They almost always have something good for a quick vegan or vegetarian or gluten free meal, including delicious desserts! If you forget to bring your own shopping bags, they keep a supply of different sizes of boxes that you can use for free. They also have inexpensive recycled plastic bags that you can buy. They have a large bulk foods section, including spices!

The co-op is a wonderful place, but not a perfect place for everyone. They will admit that their prices are somewhat higher because the experience is better. There are some things that co-op does that they do better or only they do, there are some things that they are not as good at.
The produce is generally wonderful although a bit more expensive. Much of it is organic and much of it is local. The bulk section is like no other. I’ve heard it said that it is the largest section like this in the northeast and I would not have trouble believing it. The assortment of nuts, trail mix, dried fruit, spices, maple syrup, etc., etc. that you can buy or as much or as little as you want is huge. It is hard to find a cheese section in the capitalist district with as much variety, or with the kind of service that will cut as much as as little as you want and they are extremely knowledgeable about cheese. The bakery is one of the few fully vegan bakeries in the capital District. They prepare wonderful meals and have a hot and cold salad and prepared food bar with a couple of different soups every day. there is just so much here that you won’t find in the price choppers and Hannaford‘s of the world. And, you do pay a bit more for it. The sale items tend to be really good on gourmet products. There is also a wonderful vibe with customers who will routinely say hello, let you go in front of them with your cart and the staff in general seems happy to be here. If you join for $100 you get a discount and if you work you get an increasing discount. Oh, and I didn’t mention all of the plantsin the nice weather. I can go on, but the co-op is more than just a grocery store it’s an experience.
People mention “hippies”, a “cult” and similar terms. No value judgement but a large part of the mission of the coop is to embrace inclusiveness of all….to embrace diversity and to promote social causes. The mission is also strongly supportive of respect and restoration of the environment, and this may attract shoppers and workers who are a subset of the population at large.

I love their selection, but the last 2 times I was there they were rude to me. The 1st time the cashier didn’t seem like to ring us out. 2nd time the coffee shop employee rudely told me they are closed when I politely asked for capuccino. The cashier rudely pointed out how my milk container were dirty and they won’t accept it.

COFFEE SHOP ONLY: Their espresso machine seems to be broken now than it's working. It's annoying. The staff has informed me on the past, that "It's broken all the time." When this happened today I asked someone about a discount on my membership because the machine is broken so often and I pay for it as part of my membership, and she told me I "could fill out paperwork to cancel my membership if I wanted." It doesn't sound like they need my patronage. I then asked to be connected to the coffee shop. I asked them when the machine will be fixed. The girl said "I have no idea" and hung up the phone. Not the best customer service today. Plus, it sounds like someone is dropping the ball when it comes to the maintenance of the machine or hasn't accepted the fact they probably need a new one. Have a great day and God bless.

I have been shopping here for over 14 years. Their first location was off of Central Ave. I get most of my herbs here. Great staff, very professional and friendly always ready to off information on anything you might need. Wheelchair accessible into the doors, however you might want to check how narrow their isles might be for your Wheelchair. Organic fruits, meat etc, etc. There are some things that might be a little more expensive here? Please do your own price check. This is a great place to shop and get more than just your basic needs. I love ❤️ it here!
