Was in Albany visiting family after their surgery. Came across this gem here on yelp. Mary not only offers cheese made from raw milk, but also makes a killer grilled cheese sandwich. I will be back. Thank you.

This place is ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!The selection is superb, the freshness of their stock, the staff everything is everything you are looking for a neighborhood cheese shop. The cured meats section is nothing so miss either.Prepare to spend at least 30/40 to leave with a full bag but that’s not always the case as it’s all fairly priced.I moved to the area recently and places like this making me feel more than at home.Albany is blessed to have this place!

I had the pleasure of snacking on a board from The Cheese Traveler when I was at an event at Marcus Blaque in Troy and OH MY GOD I could have (and pretty much did) eat the whole thing by myself. The selection of cheese was fantastic and the accompaniments were divine (crackers, hearty bread, cornichons, corn nuts, berries, FIGS, different well-paired and well-thought jams/preserves, etc), so much so that I had to call and request a graze box for myself and two friends when the weather decided to play nice (an impromptu picnic was exactly what the doctor ordered). Becky was nothing but absolutely lovely and personable, from start to finish. She put together a graze box for me, asking me if I had any cheese preferences (I deferred to her expertise and she was smart enough to at least clarify whether I was fond of blue cheese, because I'm not!), and had it all together with within half an hour. It was absolutely perfect for 3 people at $55 and no one was left feeling unsatisfied. I have every intention of going back and just browsing their selections to stock my own pantry and fridge, so unsurprisingly this is a must visit for anyone who loves a good cheese. I'm embarrassed I didn't know it was here sooner! I'll be sure to take some pictures next time when my mouth isn't watering in anticipation.

The Cheese Traveler is that unimaginable high 5 star local micro-store! This cheese store is behind some shrubs, in a corner mall, near 4 car spots. Really though, it's the name that intrigued me. Cheese is a past time of mine. I've palated and paired cheeses in numerous countries; cheese made by goats, cows, sheep's, yaks and many more. I have eaten cheese with snake meat. Fondue. Cheese on sticks. Cheeses out of the fire. Cheese balls. String cheese. Mozzarella. Cheese eaten with white wines. Parisian cheese. You name it, I've most likely tried it! I'm the Rebel Chef after all. So of course, my nasal flavor-fluency had to come and give this shop a try and I needed to leave a manly review. The Cheese Traveler has it all. Coming in there is a 'cool' shelf in the front and room-temp display on the left, as well as wonderful charcuterie, hand sliced salami, pancetta, olives, capers, shelves of wine, breads and heaps and heaps of beers. Bottles of beer. Cans of beer! They sell anything associated with cheeses, snack hours and picnics: wafers, crackers, chips, wines, aperitif foods. And then. There's an islet in the middle - just a small stand, not much frills - where there are a few 'end' cheese bits (odds + ends), all price marked but just random stuff, for sale. My heart beat jumped, because I hate spending $50 bucks on a pound of cheese I won't like. There's a FRENCH word - un bon mot Francaise - for an idea like this, this little 'bargain-stand': 'Degustation'! When I came around, this place stunned me with the level of friendliness. Not trying to make a sale, not stepping all over me, not watching over me. The women were unbelievably friendly, happy, gracious. They gave me some pointers on local 'stinky' cheeses and ran some meats thru the cutter. All the while I had a wonderful and long-lived customer convo with all of them; about food, sandwiches, Albany. This is one of the places you don't miss. They make real thick, real mean sandwiches for satisfying lunches and they have tables inside to sit and snack and talk. For a small local 'cheese shop' The Cheese Traveler has the right name and place. Five stars all day every day here - it packs a real Yelp-punch. Great low prices too! Fantastic micro-store/butcher. Rebel review: 5+

Great place for cheese and deli cuts to treat yourself occasionally. They also have some yummy spreads and jams as well as honey. They also have vegan salami which is made of figs. Staff is very friendly!

If you're looking for an unusual cheese, and knowledgeable service, this is the place to go. Plus off-street parking (on Delaware Ave, that's a plus!).

Can’t recommend this place enough. Ordered a charcuterie board over the phone and the woman I spoke to was so kind- she offered me many different options and catered the board to my tastes. She was mindful of the time I needed it by, and overall just very very sweet! The board itself was amazing. Everything was laid out perfectly, labeled, and came with whole jars of jam. I can’t wait to order from here again!!
